Do we need a Sorcery TCG Beta reprint based on availability at LGS's in Europe and the US?

It'll be 60k-80k Beta for sure. They've already discussed that AL would be the set that makes the game very available to the public. AL will be 100k-150k.

yeah, i had to preorder in april/may, to get some boxes. europe was certainly understocked. but in the end was able to get a few more boxes around launch for 175-185 bucks. still more than preorder, but oke. it can be frustrating not getting any product i understand. you could always order a case from team covenant in the US. even with import cost you should still get it cheaper than buying marked up boxes here. if you all share the import cost, 150$ a box is not to bad. 😁👊🏻

The game itself is awesome but if just 3 LGS gets each just 12 boxes in a city of 1 million.. seems like the company can make great game design but are really bad with logistics. My preorder (master case) got cut to 1 box and it seems that’s it. Few stores are only selling boosters not boxes due to that. Where I buy it’s 50% over MRSP and they sell a person 5 packs a day. Haven’t missed a day for a while but its tedious, unecological, more expensive, and it shouldn’t be required for a game that is still in its infancy.

@@stehlikwhere are you based, stehlik? because you can always order from team covenant in the US. even if you live in europe and with import, boxes from team covenant should be less expensive than buying with mark up here.

@NerdAndProudOfIt yugioh, mtg, and pokemon print billions of cards, millions of boxed yearly and they are obviously successful. It's a shame that you think that tcgs are investments. They are games.

This is the perfect way to kill a tcg 👌🏻. There is tons of tcg which massively print, if you want that you can choose one of them. Sorcery is fisrt for Art, then Collectible and finally casual gaming. No need to flood the market, it’s not a competitive tcg, it’s not a mainstream game, it’s not a powerful IP, it only needs to grow slowly, and less than the demand in order to keep value and desirability.

it is incredible difficult to distribute in the EU market, standardfiend, absolutely! every country has it’s own distribution chain, often it’s own currency and laws, it’s own language, different customs…etc! there are a few bigger distributors for these kind of games, who i believe indeed handled the distribution here. but i think besides that the EU strangely enough is not and was not the focus. although we were represented well in the KS. if the printrun is 60k, i would assume team covenant got 35k, rudy 10k, europe 8k, the oceanic region and the rest of the world (japan?) 7k. if the printrun is 50k, it probably is more like 28k TC, 9k Rudy, 7k EU, 6k rest of the world.

@@asaffin1i am just making assumptions, of course, and i had not heard of them before neither, but their personal approach combined with the fact that they were the only one’s with the preorder as from may and that they now still offer 4 cases as a max, makes me think they surely got 50% of the printrun.

i hope more people will see it as you do, chris! i think you summarized it perfectly! thanks for the great comment. i totally agree with you and actually approached it the way you described. i preordered in may, i saved up for that. then i saved a bit before release in december over here, to see if i can get a few more boxes, and i could. now i am fine with what i have and i will slowly open boxes on and off camera to explore the game with my community and with friends. 😁👊🏻

"Just think 6 of you get together everyone puts in $100 dollars and you get to draft beta sorcery that night. Sounds like a good time." - This is just a ridiculous notion. You guys have so much money to flippantly say this...this kind of price hike will stunt the growth of the game especially in these times. Can't paywall it like this when its just getting off the ground but it might not matter anyways. I think the damage has been done already especially considering Rudy has 10k boxes he's just going to sit on and sell at triple price eventually.

@@cavemanteroi think referring to the high beta price, chris meant possibly a few years from now, looking back at beta in a nostalgic way. now this is certainly not preferable and not good for the game, agree. i think having paid 175-185 a box now instead of 150 i paid for the preorder is still within acceptable margins, considering the current scarcity in europe. and even then i had to save up for a few extra boxes and sell some mtg. certainly not a high roller, as you know, especially not in these times. but i focus, and that helps. family and bills first, then the little money i have left goes mainly into saving for holidays with the family and as i work hard for it, the rest goes into tcg’s and boardgames. 😜👊🏻 certainly would not buy boxes for 600 bucks now, personally. but i see myself saving up for a box of ice, which is almost 30 years old, age and drafting it with friends, so that’s how i saw the comment 🙏🏻

so next time i am up there, i need to visit alphaspel 😁👊🏻! visited a couple of stores in norway last summer, so sweden might be fun next summer. yeah, i guess EC supports stores pretty well. i think that is a good thing! a sealed event would be really nice!

Alphaspel is excellent. They actually have combined the store with a full bar and restaurant. So you can play cards or borrow board games, have a beer and eat a burger while playing. Unfortunately the have been fairly low on sealed/draft events för MtG if late, which is my second game. Anyway I tipped all the stores about registration and all of them got back to me and said they would register or look into it. So hopefully they get the store kits and can do events.@@NerdAndProudOfIt

is didn’t really know them, but i appreciate their approach and their social media presence. being open and communicative helps. it indeed looks as if they handle things well for sorcery, agreed, chris! 😁👊🏻

They have a spotless record with other games and every video they make with Sorcery is a love letter. I was following the project on Erik's Facebook before I knew what TC was but once I saw their first video I knew they would treat it right once it came time to sell

hey tg! thanks for the detailed comment, i appreciate it! and yes, a reprint indeed is a touchy subject 😂😜! i preorderd in apr/may and i got my boxes for 150 from white rabbit in germany. they honored preorders for me before, so i trust them (and it seems rightfully so). i got a few more boxes between 175-185 at release. product eas and is still available here and there, but prices in the EU indeed went up. i can relate to find it annoying that stores raise prices. i preorderd fab monarch and crucible 1st edition, just to have my order cancelled and then see the boxes offered by the same store for double the money. not cool. raising prices in the aftermarket does not bother me that much personally, as i see that to adjusting to current market value. i don’t complain if the prices drop neither, so yeah, that’s how it goes. and i can’t believe that everything scarce suddenly is scarce because it has been used as an investment. boxes in the US are readily available for msrp, who in their right mind would invest in that? and even if, we don’t know the printrun and boxes are available still months after release. ordering from the US with import is cheaper than buying boxes for 200 bucks here. it’s a regional distribution problem and it would be great if the EU would get 10 more pallets or so, but i don’t think we need we need a reprint. i do hope AL will be available more easily, though, agreed! thanks again and stay frosty! 😁👊🏻

it’s always a shame if a shop does not honor the preorders! sorry to hear that. i got mine from white rabbit in germany and they honored their boxes. i wouldn’t order from that store again, if i were you. you can always order a box or a case from team covenant in the US. import is a factor, true, but boxes are still cheaper than secondary market 😁👊🏻

The shop simply didn’t want to sell all their 24 boxes to two people (one guy ordered 3 cases, I ordered 1 case). So they went with 1 per customer which satisfied luckily all their pre-paid orders but not those who were going to pay when they pick them up. Still, I see that as fair from their end. Shame their order of 20 cases didn’t get filled. (I saw it actually) Funnily enough I ended up with 100+ boosters buying from a shop which went 5 boosters per customer a day. Haven’t missed but 2 weekend days till they ran out.. Will end up importing from TC and going through dread of customs in our post communist country. If it only were “just about the money.” The customs office here is epitome of communist museum.

I agree, maybe in a couple years, but what could they do to differentiate the prints and ensure Beta retains collector value?

i would just focus on arthurian legenda and leave alpha and beta alone. they could do a white bordered revised set, which would continue their mtg-like approach, but i think it would be too much for the current market and too destructive for collectability at a later point in the games life. 👊🏻

balance between collectability and playability indeed is key, and if in doubt, lean towards collectability to be on the safe side! 🙏🏻

I hope it's 100k boxes but that is 54 million cards, so not likely. My estimate is 45-50k, but I hope they fire up the printers and do another 100k+. This will ensure the boxes are available to everyone for years to come.

why would beta be 100k boxes if alpha is 29k? i don’t see the connection. 50k-60k would still be acceptable, anything above that might already be tricky in the current market. 100k beta would be a death sentence for the game!

i personally do agree that they indeed should not reprint beta, jacob, as you might have heard in the video. even though boxes over here in europe are not readily available, the game is still fully stocked in the US. i believe it would hurt the game in the long if they would reprint beta! 👊🏻

That's not really true if it's a small reprint to target area it wouldn't really hurt anything. Now if they reprint like the first wave that could hurt prices.

@@KostikSaint thanks for your oppinion, i appreciate it! printers are not started up for a few thousand boxes, so i think saying a reprint would be bad is actually true, as a reprint would mean an extra big wave. if they shift inventory from the us to the eu, it probably would be a better idea, i think.

(although the rudy partnership does not fit that narrative, but i guess a little extra marketing does not hurt). awesome you were able to complete alpha sets! even more awesome you actually gave one away. very cool move. to me beta is more interesting, as the collector in me didn’t want to play with alpha, but the player in me still wants to experience the game. i have less problems doing that with beta 😜👊🏻! thanks for the detailed comment, buddy! good to have you back! 🙏🏻
