I bought this pedal after watching your video. I'm really impressed by it but I would say the gain control takes a little getting used to: it sounds like a pre-gain mid control in a way, pushing mids as you increase the gain. Once you understand that, you can balance it out with the bass and treble controls or treat it like adding a tube screamer. I personally like the gain around 9 o' clock to keep it scooped and add gain with the boost side. Very versatile. It doesn't really sound at all like the American Sound.
Subscribed. The information was great, but your musicianship is absolutely incredible. Listening to the song, I could feel how much you were getting into it, how much the pedal inspired you to CREATE. I get so tired of videos where they’re telling you “pedal sounds great, go buy it, see ya next time.” This video was great. I’ll be back for more.
Really appreciate that, Travis. And you are correct, this pedal really motivated me to play. It was hard to contain my enthusiasm haha. I just loved the sound and tone from this thing. Thanks for watching!
As always, top-notch, minimal clickbait guitar content! superdanger to the moooooon. Got the King of Kings and lovin it. Might check out the Tornado in the future!
Thanks again, Jazz for your continued support and encouragement. Stoked the King of Kings is rocking in your hands. A really underrated pedal. I promise to never intentionally create clickbait. Only by accident! haha
Great singing and playing.. It seems like we are overwhelmed by great overdrives on the market.. Those Joyo seem reliable as far as the wear and tear are serious competition for the more established companies like Boss, MXR etc..
Always great to see a review from someone who's a musician and not just a guitarist! Great work my guy, super informative review, and love your playing!
Channelling a little Jimi there with the Bass turned up? I just got this pedal...my first...your review pushed it over the line...thanks for putting in so much effort...best from Downunder...
It's that low grumble and still clean transparent that i like most. (Klon). In the 90s in played RAT through fender bassman, that sounded great too. Nice thing about the ear is everyone s different so the conversation bout pedals never stops.
now i have to get one!!!! i have the Maximum(Fulltone GT500), but the boost on that one is switchable only when the OD is on. on this one it˙s independent.
Nice video. I think your drummer has potential!!! Last night (today actually) Amazon had the pedal with a 20% off coupon. It's in the Joyo store, but it's mislabeled so the search might make it appear it's not there. Google didn't show it. Second, I really appreciate that you demonstrate pedals with relative standard guitars. It helps me understand what I'm hearing. Finally I noticed your Origin Effects DCX pedal. Not sure if you've got a video on it (I'll look), but if not I'd love to see one. Especially if you can compare it to the M-EQ (midrange eq / overdrive) and/or the Halcyon (TS 808), and where to start. The last two have an adaptive setting which is very interesting. I ordered the M-EQ today, but they all look great. Some argue you should pair the DCX (the same preamp that's in the UA Max, but supposedly better) with the M-EQ (which is a Pultec - hope I spelled it right - the studio EQ from the 50s). Though I'm not brave enough to try IR's and the Iridium, your channel is a great educational resource for someone like me, who is trying to understand the interactions and choices presented by the gear explosion. Your videos occupy a sweet spot between the studio and the experienced professional that are extremely helpful. Thanks.
Haha, I asked the drummer what is rate was and he said "if you have to ask, you can't afford me". The Tornado sounds good with every guitar I own but I think it is meant for a Strat style guitar. Really complements the tones there the best. And yeah just got the DCX. The next video is on it. I won't be able to compare to the M-EQ but I will compare it to my other favorite overdrives. The adaptive circuitry is really interesting and I am excited to learn as much as I can about it for the video. Thrilled my videos are helpful to you. Thanks again for watching!
@@SuperdangerStudios Thanks, looking forward to it. I think most of the videos I saw on the three Origin Effects used humbuckers. Some ambient guys, which isn't my thing. Danish Pete tried the Halcyon on his Tele and really liked it on the 808 side with the adaptive curcuit on. And he hates Tube Screamers. But it didn't make it to his board. Hoping to hear some Strats on the DCX. I'll put a comment about the M-EQ in that video. Tell the drummer he better be Ringo or else mom and dad will blow his college fund on gear and Cancun.
The drive channel on this pedal sounds infinitely better than the drive on the Dream '65! Probably not very accurate to what a pushed blackface Fender sounds like, but it just sounds great.
It’s a flavorful pedal but I like the king of kings more. It’s probably just me. But hey. What’s one more overdrive pedal for my ever growing collection? 😂
@@SuperdangerStudios all amazing overdrives. Just remind everyone again that it’s ultimately the player’s ears that decide what they like. If you like a TS9 going into a Peavey Express 112, do you man! Guitar forums have a place in gear discussion but they sometimes put a blanket on a player’s creativity. I’ve gotten comments on my joyo pedals saying they’re cheap junk clones and that “boss is best”. Cool man. Live in your bubble.
@@lowercase3635 Absolutely. The best pedal is the pedal you like! I guess instead of best, I mean, which one would someone prefer. I am an idiot and love every pedal I have bc I can find so many use cases for them haha. But your sentiment is exactly what is needed in discussions. dont let other people choose your tone for you! Use your ears, and your enthusiasm, and let your creativity do the rest.
Great video . I love the tones you get . Which do you prefer, Tornado or King of Kings ? You make them both sound amazing . - I know and recognized "Norwegian Wood" . The Beatles are just the most amazing band to have ever been on this planet !!! I am addicted to the White Album right now . Rubber Soul is awesome too . Beatles Forever!!
King of Kings is a King ot Tone clone. So more distortion than OD. While the Tornado is more vintage Fender Overdrive. I love the Tornado and use it on my small pedalboard. Perfect for a vintage drive. King of Kings is awesome too but I use that mostly in studio.
