Sounds like this episode could have used Denise's input!

appreciate jp being a moderator of sorts and trying to encourage deeper/critical thinking, and not just superficially sharing anecdotes without structure

Actually is it needed to discuss only one confession per episode? Would prefer to listen several confessions per episodes =) at least 3

More confessions per episode means less in depth discussions tho

There is research to show that the kids who are most securely attached to their parents are the most emotionally stable and successful. The key is a secure attachment facilitating confidence and independence to naturally develop.

The most interesting part of this interview is the girl who talked about her toxic relationship with her mom & her regret at her passing she wasn’t nicer to her. Its not practical to expect a grown up kid to give a running commentary of his day every day to the mum 9 out of 10 kids will think this is unreasonable, i am a mother myself & my grown up girl in her 20s already complains if i ask her what time she be home & then argue that none of her frens moms do that

Not usually a commenter, but many thanks for everyone’s inputs on this topic!! Very relevant and applicable to me as I have been trying to navigate and establish a healthy relationship with my parents. Especially the part on overbearing co-dependence vs a healthy parent-child bond, thanks TDK team!!

if your parent is over controlling, stop working/studying, stick to them and let them feed you until the day they cannot stand it and allow your freedom. * if you are already above 20years old

Hard to avoid over-controlling parents if staying together.

Youngsters usually said their parents do not understand them. The reality is they locked themselves in their rm & ignore their parents. Reality is parents are aging & the time spent is limited. Treasure your parents cos they r the ones who love you unconditionally. They are not intruding your privacy but showing you care & concern. Kudos to JP for the way he handles the topic. He shows maturity lately. Could sense Gerald’s emotions & love for his parents when he was mentioning about treasuring one’s parents.

I don't think anyone can top my story. This didn't happen to me as I was quite a rebellious child. But it happened to my brother who happens to be an introvert so he doesn't really go head to head to my mum. My mum was obsessive to the point where she would go into my brother's room after his gf and him left, then dig through the bin. She would call me to report that "omg they had sex again last night, I found some condoms and some tissue with c-m. As a sister can you please warn him not to do that?" Then I'm like wtf... and I'm not kidding she actually CSI and smelt that shit to VERIFY THAT ITS TRUE.

There's too much to rebut but i think topic we can lead to something that's actually fairly common in SG. Teen Pregnancy and how it links to back to this topic.

In general, you are still a baby in parents view. Just respect the one thing they ask from you. "UPDATE YOUR LOCATION!"

I'm staying w my brother and he will bring his gf home. Each time, they will just hang in his room. I think the feeling is being left out and not invited to play together that's causing loneliness 😂... but I don't go and open his room door 😅 but maybe parents also want to be included? 🤷‍♀️

If your parent is too co dependent on you. Get a pet. By getting a pet, you can show her you can take care of yourself through the pet and how you have grown up. Bonus if you get her to help take care of the pet (so attention is diverted 😂).

As a parent, I would want to know what & where my son is doing because I cannot be in every min of his life but from the talks, we can see his wellbeing, this is my responsibility.of a parent . As a child, it is his responsibility to let us know he is safe (location) and he will return home safe. By the way, even if the person is 40yo, his mum will still think he is a child. 😅

Alison's definition of canon event is off XD A canon event is an important event in your life that shapes who you are and what you become. It's not things that everyone experienced. It needs to be something that makes impact to your life.
