Lawrence (the father) is not just a stay at home dad, he's a full time caregiver to a person with special needs and that is a WHOLE different ball game. So so respectable and inspiring! I hope he finds a better emotional support system because it seems to be quite an issue for him. Most people don't realise but caregivers, in my opinion anyway, actually require more help and support than their charges.

The first thing I did is to post this in my FB as an encouragement to other stay at home parent and second thing, to my friend who takes care of her autistic child. What I feel as a home parent? Many women tell me how lucky I am and then what do I do at home 😑. Some women tell me how challenging she is as a working mother. Many women do not think I hv a higher education being a home mother. But usually men appreciates a home mother. Same goes to a mother who breastfeed publicly without hesitation when the baby cries for food. I find fathers and men appreciate seeing a child being breastfed in public without feeling shame for the mother. Salute to all home parents. Though it is challenging physically and esp. emotionally.. it is a very rewarding “career” if both spouse are supportive of each other

Takes a village to raise a child, much less a child with autism. I've seen firsthand some of the sacrifices that parents of kids with autism have to make. For the father in red who gave up his job to emotionally support his wife and care for his son... you're amazing.

How can stay at home parents give no contribution financially? They are the financial manager at home. They control the cash flow. What have we buy for our meal, how to minimize our electricity bill, everything about kiss and home. This is my view. They don't give you the input but they manage the input so you can have good output.

I was like you, I openly made friends with people who had kids. But when I had my own, they pushed me away. They only wanted to be friends when I could babysit and support their family unit. Be careful who you chose to be kind to and when you do, don't expect it to be reciprocated. Knowing that would have saved me a lot of heartbreak.

Our patriachal society can be harsher to stay-at-home dads compared to moms given how it is wired. However, it must have been a tough decision to make to become a stay-at-home dad/mom and making your family one of your foremost priority, as it can be both rewarding and painful. I'm single and a stay-at-home-daughter. I am my mother's companion and take care of her. I help her with housechores, go marketing and grocery shopping with my mother. I accompany her to her medical appointments and outings. She enjoys cooking and eating out occasionally. My sister is the sole breadwinner. Even if both siblings work full-time, we cannot afford to employ a helper. Over the years of bonding and being together, my mother and I are now best friends 😁👍

my dad is a stay at home parent. He raised me and my brother. Growing up, people always ask me what my father do and I said he is a stay at home parent. They would always ask me why he isn't the working one. I don't know WHO made it compulsory that the stay at home parent cannot be the patriach of the family? WHERE and which part of the law said so?

This is so beautiful, as a working mother, let me tell you, we feel no different. The society, shames you for leaving your kid behind. My husband was not working when I got pregnant and when he informed my mother in law about my pregnancy, first thing she said, couldn't you wait to find a job first and hung up. I was determined to never ask anyone for help in raising my kid in anyway. My husband found a job when my son was 1.5yr old, it was partly deliberate and I never felt he was doing any less work by choosing to stay home. It is tough to shed those gender stereotypes. Do what is best for your family. All the beautiful people here, warm up my heart.

I find staying at home to look after the family full time is more challenging than being in the workforce while taking care of family "part time". You cannot take a break no matter what, even when sick or just sprained your ankle because you usually don't get help else where whether you are a man or woman. I feel it is the toughest job in the world. Yet, in parties, women do not receive any applause for saying bringing up children is their proudest achievement while others like a one time scaling a mountain receives thunderous applause.

It’s interesting to see the insight of the male perspective on this because I think it points out what some women feel but can’t put into words since taking care for children has always been put upon females. But I guess it’s also harder on the social aspect for men at home. In the end all their friends don’t experience that same lifestyle. It is very hard to talk about who has to stay home (and if one does have to stay at home at all; lately there have been other options!). But I can see why this is a big topic and discussion that has to be held.

I could relate so much when listening to the dad's thoughts and seeing his emotions. These thoughts and emotions can exist in any stay-at-home parent; it doesn't have to be a parent cum caretaker of a child with special needs. It usually happens when people had a completely different lifestyle in the past and have certain values that are forced to be changed when entering the life of a stay-at-home parent. It's easier for some who are flexible while extremely tough for others who hold on to their principles. The mental support of the life partner plays an important role.

It must’ve been hard to be a stay at home parent

It's kinda sad that most of the comments are recognising the dad's selflessness and overlooking the rest of the moms. Being a stay home parent is a sacrificial choice, whether you're a father or mother, period.

Why would anyone allow strangers to look after your own children? Leaving your child(ren) under anyone’s care but your own is a huge risk, even when it’s leaving them with their grandparents

Grandparents have done their duty raising their own children, they should be enjoying their golden years and not burdened with looking after their children's children.
