Let's hope Starmer doesn't turn out to be a serious, dull, competent, self serving cheating liar. I wish him well, but I can never forget that above anything else, he's a politician.
@@ArnieVincent65 So you want DePfiffel 2.0? How did that work out for those that died while he partied? For the state security risk MI5 said he posed while he partied with putler oligarchs and flunkies after the Skripal poisoning where our citizens were killed on British soil, even putting the son of a KGB agent in our horse of lords. How did that work out for the people of Afghanistan that helped the British army and were left to fend for themselves. How did that work out for the millions of people who now have costs of living equivalent to 13 grand a year worse off than 14 years ago? 😂😂😂 Give your head a wobble!
So what have we had. Theresa May, nasty. Boris charismatic, incompetent. Truss no charisma, incompetent. Sunak no charisma, couldn't even bring an umberella to a rain storm. I'll take Starmer over all of them.
lies starmer used to win the leadership. gaslighting over gaza. corruption from purging the left from labour and hijacking SNP motion day by threatening speaker of the house at the behest of his handlers, the israel lobby and ex tory donors.
Labour is despised by 80% as 4 in 5 refused to vote 4 Starmer. 80% of electorate are very scared of Labour & if remoaner corbynites fail to deport millions of criminals like Abdul Lawangeen, then voters will boot out Labour in huge numbers in approx 2028.
@@ArnieVincent65 "weak lack of testosterone delivery" - Jesus Christ this wins for worst comment of the day... Personally I thought Starmer's speech was fantastic - finally someone who is willing to try and bridge the divide, rather than make it bigger. This is what we need, not someone gloating that the other side lost, but someone who is willing to say to the people who didn't vote for him "you may not believe in me, but I will work until you do".
Who wants testosterone and charisma. Give me someone who is serious about the enormity of the task in front of him. This, he acknowledged. He has proven that he has guts and stamina, proven by the changes he has wrought in Labour. He has taken them, in five year from nothing to winning the election. He will move forward slowly but surely.
@@ArnieVincent65 The country is tired and just left an abusive relationship. He literally said that his priority is home building along with other things and as pointed out at 2:04 stocks in building companies have gone up because of it. "didnt tell us what he plans to do", you didnt listen lol.
Politicians don't need to be 'charismatic', they need to be *competent and trustworthy* when it comes to doing their job. Boring is just fine if it brings stability. Politics isn't supposed to be a soap-opera.
The left created culture wars and look how it's panning out in the US. They have a senile president and a VP that was picked to tick back xes. Neither will beat Donald j Trump.
So so tired of populism. Give me mundane sensible moderate politics any day of the week. Incrimental change and longterm thinking is what a country needs to improve.
@@ArnieVincent65 they published a manifesto, I read it, it was definitely a manifesto. The press hammers the Labour party, and they will do as long as they are in power. Just watch the next week in the news cycle, when Starmer has had literally no time to get anything rolling, and see what the press has to say. As to the vagaries of the FPTP system, it’s strange how no-one gave a toss until the right-wing vote was split in the same way the left-wing vote has been for decades. I’m for PR, are you?
@@ArnieVincent65 "They actually don't usually", even the press themselves openly admit they do lol. The reason why labour appear weak is because if a labour candidate sneezes, its heavily criticised and is front page news for days, meanwhile you literally had tory members performing heavy corruption and the press acted shocked when it got called out for not challenging that. Look at the bacon sandwich for proof lol.
That 2nd caller is the problem with this country he doesn't know anything about politics but fan boys so much over farage that he thinks he'd just solve everything so how.
Nigel Farage took over a brokerage firm in 2011, he drove it to insolvency within 3 years and wound up with tens of thousands of unpaid tax debt. The idea he could run a country is beyond a joke.
That can work if we had single transfer vote, as they may be 1st for 33% but also second for 40% That's the first step to more representative politics in the UK
I agree with the first caller that we need to take immigration off of the cards but it's not by embracing the right wing it's by making it a non-issue. Process aslyum claims then there will be no hotel use, have a process centre in france and there will be no boats. Increase training in the Uk, and up wages to reduce the need for migration. And in general improve people's lives and then there is no need for a scapegoat. That is how that rhetoric ends.
Have a process centre in France and there will be no boats? Well my friend, people who travel to another country to improve their lives are not deterred by processing centres. People will travel to better their lives if the processing centre is on the moon or in Afghanistan. It doesn’t make a difference. What deters such people is a clear immigration or non-immigration policy. If the policy is we don’t accept asylum seekers, asylum seekers will not come. If the policy is we don’t accept immigrants to work or study. Then immigrants wouldn’t come to work or study. But the truth is: successive governments realise sectors of the economy need immigrants so they shout about stopping immigration whilst in practice, those governments increase immigration.
100%, this immigration 'issue' has been created by the Tories, they used people as pawns for their political scapegoating. They wanted the hotels, they wanted the boats, they wanted the headlines. Process claims efficiently, deport those who don't have a valid claim, integrate those that do and like you say improve our homegrown training, standard of living, wages etc. and people won't pay attention to immigrants.
@@Osiriswear He means have a processing centre in France where people can claim asylum to enter the UK, if they are granted then there is no need to use the boats or pay gangs to cross the channel. Something like 70% of the people crossing on the boats get their asylum applications approved (eventually) we are just taking too long with the claims.
@@Osiriswear you don't know what a processing centre is, it processes aslyum seeker claims meaning zero boats. Before 2018 we had zero boats, why do they think that was.
sadly starmer the populist is going down the right wing route of shouting SMASH THE GANGS. instead of the quicker and cheaper and more competent route of re-establishing safe and legal routes. that puts the gangs out of business even faster. cant operate with no customers.
Noisy politics... The thing is. Politics that WORKS is invisible. You never see it. Like the cogs in machinery. Nobody opens up an engine that works to pick it apart and find the faults. Now contrast that to the US politics where they dont even have the ambition to govern and no longer have the ability to run an election without controversy anymore. Its easy to look at the american chaos. Where politics are all over social media and think "Politicians are all the same" and apply the same kind of extremism and hate to politicians over in the UK or Canada. -Even Australia.
Keir won't have illegal parties, won't use his position for personal gain or have affairs. I also believe he will do his best for EVERYONE in the country and not just those who are rich. THAT is what is important here.
Boris treated the rules with the contempt they deserved. Imagine if this country had just got on with things? Rather than locking down? We’d be in a lot better shape than we are now!
@peterholden3672 Imagine how much less pressure the NHS would be under now if that had happened? Government wouldn’t have had to have spent nearly as much as it did on keeping business afloat. It would have been better for the country in the long term.
As long as we have a government that actually get on with their job with a half decent moral compass the country should improve from where we have been recently.
You're deluded, the UK voted a globalist in. Net zero means the shutting down of all the farms. It's already happening in europe. Starmer will carry on with that agenda.
I think Starmer will try and keep politics calmer, but he can only do so much. He has a lot more control over actual government, as opposed to the theatre that is politics.
It is not the end of noisy politics we'll have Farage and his cohorts with Trumpian show standing spewing nonsense for the next five years. Sir Starmer should easily be able to contain the Tories in the short term but he will need to be Machiavellian with Farage. Interesting times ahead
The way to defeat Farage is to deliver decent government that makes people better off, healthier, and happier. Then we don't need to worry about Nigel.
Farridge won’t have the opportunity in the House, being in a small party. He may get an occasional question but that’s it. And as soon as the thrill of being there wears off, he will be off, leave it to his minions and be out and about slobbering over the press and other media.
A return to the idea that the Prime Minister is merely the first among equals in their cabinet and a public servant, not a president or king, is long overdue. It will be interesting to see how this juxtaposes with the upcoming Tory leadership contest, which I predict will be as toxic as ever.
I'd like a debate about how much the media was responsible for the promotion of "charismatic" insubstantive narcissistic individuals. The failure to call out Johnson & co's lies was criminal. Now they indulge Farage.
The media - and not just the right wing media - are totally complicit in getting the reprehensible Farridge into Parliament and his loathsome party lots of publicity. Recently Farridge was given monumental amounts of airtime and newspaper column inches - not so the Lib Dem’s and the Greens.
My takeaway from this election is the general apathy of the people, the number of interviews I've watched where people said they didn't vote because it doesn't make a difference to their lives. Hence the rise of Reform and the number of single issue MP's we see in this parliament. Unless Labour change this, extremism will become the norm
If the lights of Nigel Farage is what we have install for the country if labour doesn’t change things for the better then I will want out of this country
Sir Keir has a huge job ahead. However, it’s refreshing that he’s putting the country first, rather than prioritising personal gain. He’s ruthless and selfless in equal measure. Three cheers for Keir!
Before coming to politics , every politician is an ordinary member of the public. When you listen to the caller like David, you understand why the standard of politicians is going down.
It’s an ironic paradox of leadership, the boring pragmatic leader avoids problems before they happen and it may appear they aren’t doing anything at all.
"I think we should bring in an Austrailian style immigration system" The UK did bring in an Austrailian style immegration system, over a decade ago. 🤦♂
So you are going to trust a man who has accepted £76 000 worth of personal gifts from donors! That sounds like putting service to Kier Starmer first, party second snd country last!!!!!
As long as they are declared (that's how you know about them) that is perfectly legal and as long as they don't influence policy they are morally acceptable.
@@JohnTreacy-ix3wr You do know that you just lost the government that not only lied in every breath but actually send an MP to lie to the late Queen's face? Is that consummate enough for you or can you only see in Daily Mail-a-scope?
I know its only been a day, but I'm happy with the direction so far. I guess we'll see, but I'd rather be hopeful of a chance than expecting turmoil again.
I don’t care about dull or boring as long as he gets the piggies snouts out of the trough, takes action on the fraud and dodgy stuff then they govern in a way that is right for the country and the people.
I'd caution your caller on adopting the Australian scheme. Last year we had around half a million immigrants who we didn't have infrastructure or even housing for. As for importing teachers and builders, train your own instead of taking them from poorer countries which also need teachers and builders.
Nobody wants charisma. All most people want is an honest, hard working man (or woman) of the people who is intelligent and is decent and has integrity. I'm SO glad that Starmer is a sensible man.
Remember when he promised the people of Liverpool he would never give the Sun an interview..... well he lied like so many other times and guess what this will be what he is remembered for most.... complete dishonesty to destroy Labour
It's a result driven business. People need to feel like things are improving. Wages, housing, transparency in Westminster. Until things start getting visibly better I think people will still be sceptical
This is the most undemocratic “mandate” on earth! And Mathew do you really think this is going to be much quieter, boring politics? Reform with a credible presence and the independent left also with a credible presence all coming for blood- Stùrmer needs to make his presence known and decide does he slide further right and introduce fascism or move left and introduce humanity!
So tired of these soulless career politicians. Becomeing a politician should be similar to jury duty, with the most accomplished and intelligent people in our society, from all backgrounds and disciplines, being called upon to 'represent' the people. Instead...we are stuck with a bunch of money hungry, power obsessed, career politicians from Eton 😢
You must be happy now we have the most 'working class' front bench in the parliamentary history. No more 'money hungry, power obsessed career politicians from Eton' running the country. Anyone can officially join a party and put their name forward for an election, or even run as an Independent if they don't agree with any of the main parties. Its like voting - you can't complain about the government if you don't try to change it. I wouldn't want to be 'called up to 'represent' the people' any more than I want to be called up for jury duty. It's not a responsibility I'd like, and I know very few people who would like it.
Can’t you count? And who cares abut your uninformed opinion? We’ve now got a decent government instead of the corrupt and incompetent ones we’ve had over the past 14 years. As for reform…I don’t think the fascists will stick around too long.
Keir Starmer as Steer Calmer? I hope so, but I'll believe it when I see it; 14 years of suffering under a criminal government is enough to make a hardened cynic out of Buddha. (I'm not Buddha, but I used to be pretty laid back until that gang of Libertarian pirates got in)
😂😂😂 You haven't seen the recent video in France they all jumping for joy calling him king starmer. We can cross knowing we will be safe in the UK. We won't get sent back. That's the young males apparently fleeing war torn countries but leaving their family
Starmer will devolve all power now,to the Local authorities,he'll point to them once you start complaining he'll say it's down to them not Central Gov,the Honeymoon will last about 6 months👎🤣🤣
It's time to be a bit more optimistic. We've got rid of the self-serving clowns who wasted 14 years arguing with themselves and designing 3-word slogans.
The dream of every conservative is the end of politics. There's no neoliberalism--it's economics. There's no racism, no sexism, no homophobia--it's all the way it should be. You just keep your head down, focus on your work, and let the big boys take care of you.
Uncharismatic politics? Hey if that means a break from the sideshow distraction of leadership contests and infighting and so called 'charismatic' leaders like Bozo then I'm ALL FOR IT! The grown ups are in the room!
