Best explanation and visual of Cam Voodoo on the net. Not Voodoo in a bad way, thanks for a peek behind the curtain and taking the time to enlighten us.
I was wondering if this was feasible. Of course this grind would require compensation in the form of adjustable rocker arms, or larger shims. Would be good to explain that too.
Literally just got inside from installing a reground camshaft. I am more excited to see how this one turns out then any of my previous builds honestly. Only thing I was told is the gm billets are softer then after market so can't run a bunch of spring pressure but bee hives gives me exactly what I need for this street motor.
I did this with a Briggs and Stratton 5 hp cam on my “box stock” race cart. Made a stand out of bearings and used a belt sander to remove material. Welded the tip on the push rod and made the appropriate addition. Yes, I was much faster, especially after the twist on the cam.
Keep these videos coming Jon! Cam grinding has been a mysterious and almost black magic topic for most gearheads, including me! I'll be messaging you soon about the last video, regarding the surface process you posted about a week ago.
Thank you for your interest sir.. feel free to share these videos on any social media platform you have and have them "Subscribe" to my channel as Im just getting started on getting it dialed in with actual video editing and new Hi Def 4D video footage !!! Gonna be AWESOME !!
@@DELTACAM8005625500 i would love more info on this. This is an art i would really like to learn. Would be fun to tinker with some small engine cams . could you recommend any literature on cam grinding?
This takes me back to the machine shop days. I would set the machine up to grind a cam and when the first one was done, the boss would take me off and put Davie on and he would crash the machine. Never failed, course Davie was still in the Navy between his ears. What a fork up for sure. VF
What ppl don’t get I think if you tell um that you checked a valve clearance when the cam faces up it might help um out , good video 🏴👍🏼 I wish we had more access to this knowledge in England it’s hard to find places to do it , and the ones that do it’s cheaper to buy new high lift cams from America 🇬🇧👍🏼
I used to watch Mike Brewer and Edd China and it seems the UK has many more shops for all sorts of repair and modifications than the US. Just my impression.
Can you grind a cam for a 3406 e caterpillar so that on the injector lobe so that it eliminates the secondary injection pulses mechanically so basically a complete round I.B.C on the injector profile and if so is this something that you would be interested in doing
I'm guessing that the extra lift is achieved by using a longer valve stem after this adjustment is done? and by changing the diameter of the base circle, you increase the length of the opening and closing ramps?
Thank you for your business sir.. feel free to share these videos on any social media platform you have and have them "Subscribe" to my channel as Im just getting started on getting it dialed in with actual video editing and new Hi Def 4D video footage !!! Gonna be AWESOME !!
Informative video.....I wondered about this Exact Same thing for a Long time when I first discovered 3/4 Race & Full Race "Re-ground" Camshafts advertised in Sears Roebuck Catalog back around '62 when I was 12....Just couldn't figure, Without welding metal on, how do they make something Bigger (.510" is better'n .450" lift) by Grinding metal off ?? ........7 yrs Later, holding my new "Reground" cam, I quickly saw how it was done !! .....Thx for showing.....
Have you ever ground a diesel engine cam. I am wanting more duration to get more air... I dont know anyone personally that has tried this for Diesel application
I am intigued by this process, not so much for extra lift but closing up lsa if possible. Can a 112 be made 109 [starting with 0.460" lift]? The business of shifting lobe centers would change some behaviors obviously.
Hey I’ve got some regrinds for a dohc and I’ve added a .080 lash caps and .110 shims under the lifter adjuster. Is that too much? Did the cam place grind too much away ? With that much shims and lash caps I’ve got the preload where I’d like it
Re-weld and grind service available for cars with "shim" heads? In this case is for Nissan GA16DE cams. This motor no have aftermarket support. Really interested. Thanks!
that is a great question.... if its a mild - midrange grind no longer pushrods will be required as the Hyd lifter has up to .100" internal travel. so the lifter will make the adjustment. For heavy rv or race grinds then yes usually a + .060 pushrod will be needed.
Thanks for the quick reply! What camshaft would you recommend for a 360 in a 1975 1 ton van all stock except for a little bit of pocket porting, headers and a 3 angle valve job? I'm not too concerned with economy (not achievable in a mobile brick) but would like more pulling power from idle to cruise speed (2,900 rpm @ 60 mph). BTW, it has a 3 speed auto and 4.10:1 rear ratio.
I have heard that cam profile changes have an effect on smog and that might be something to consider. It is my understanding that in 1975, all vans had to comply with smog laws and were subject to testing.
