Do You have a Fallen-Away Loved One? Turn to the Example of a Sinful and Scandalous Saint! 

My mother used to say a rosary for my brother and a rosary for my sister every day, as they had fallen away from the church. She is no longer with us, but I promised her before she died that I would continue to pray for my siblings. St. Monica is such an inspiration to me. Thank you for this, Father Chris!

I prayed to St. Monica for me to be a good mother to my only daughter and for my daughter's well being. Now my daughter is already an aspirant to be Carmelite nun. Still praying for her continued intercession

I got a kind of reverse situation. My parents are both lukewarm, non-practicing and even uncatechized Catholics. I ask for prayers for both of their conversions.

I fell away into first atheism and then a sort of neo-paganism when I was 16-20. My mom prayed to St. Monica for my conversion and in a year or so I came back into the fold, much more fervent in my faith than ever before.

My mother prayed for me for 40 yrs and never gave up. Thank the Lord for my loving Mother without her prayersI would still be a lost soul. Amen !

Terrific explanation!! Oh the prayers my mother must have prayed for me for the past 20+ years. Sadly her dementia makes it impossible for me to share with her the success of her efforts in my returning to the faith & the Church. What a mother to do but pray to God who holds the key to their hearts? St. Monica, pray for our children! Jesus, Mary and Joseph, protect our children and our families.

I recite the divine mercy chaplet for my son who is in the US at 3pm which is 10 pm /11 pm my time in Kuwait, along with the divine mercy fathers… and then one at 3pm Kuwait time for my daughter, among the many other times that I lift them in prayer during the day. It’s 4:45 am right now and I am here to prayer for my children when I see this video reassuring me that God is great and that he is working wonders in the life of my children while I am sowing the seeds. Father Chris, 3 of my adult children have fallen away from the Catholic Church, know the Holy Bible inside and out, and Love Jesus and believe, that they do not need the Church to be saved. They have a love for our Blessed Mother, but only in the way, she is a vessel, that God used, for the birth of Christ. They had all attended Catholic grammar, high school and attended St. John’s University.. They have always attended Mass. with me during their youth. Please pray for them to return to the Catholic Church, as I do always. I will start praying to St. Monica

Hi Father Chris, Thank you for such a beautiful explanation. I kinda feel like St. Monica. I think my husband gets annoyed with me for praying all the time. Except I don't drink 🍷. I have been praying for my 12 year old daughter. She was in bible school every Sunday since kindergarten and now because of COVID-19 wants nothing to do with the Church 🙏. I will keep St Monica in my prayers. I was born and raised 20 minutes from Santa Monica California and used to go to The Santa Monica beach all the time. I never knew the story, Thank you again.

I have started praying for a fellow student who told me she has no faith. She believes that when we die there is nothing and that there’s no afterlife, no God yet she lives in fear of dying. She said she lives in this fear all the time and thinks about death constantly and is obsessed that our bodies break down usually and we suffer at the end of our journey.. in my opinion, she doesn’t realize she’s suffering now because when you have no faith, there’s an emptiness in us. I am very active in my church and for me, my faith is everything. We’ve talked about it slightly because I don’t know her that well. I pray for her fervently everyday and this video could not have come at a better time. I will continue praying and ask St. Monica to help. Thank you for all this information. It’s inspiring.

St Monica intercede for my son Jacob he has started to Church but his wife is not a believer so my granddons are not baptise.I pray for his and her true conversion. St Agustín intercede for him.

Pamela this is my story as well. My daughter is away from church and have not baptized my grandson and another baby is on the way. My heart is so broken over this. Two of my three children left the church years ago. I pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy Novena daily at 3:00pm with the DM website. The fifth day of the Novena: "Today bring to me the souls of those who have separated themselves from the Church." I make a personal appeal to our Lord for them on that day of the Novena. My expectation is that they, through grace, will someday return to the Church and the Faith.

Father Chris, I watch my grand kids the whole weekend, they are 1 1/2 and 7 years old. I've tried attending mass with them. The 7 year old is very good its the baby he is all over the place. I absolutely get nothing from going to mass except becoming stressed out. I hate missing mass and thats what its come down to. I talked with my priest, he told me to spend the time with my grandkids, he knows what my daughter has done in the past to punish me from them. Anyway I work Monday through Friday, I'm fortunate enough to put my earbuds in and listen to your Saturday lessons (which I relisten to your other lessons throughout my week) I am able to read. Dear Father Chris, I have the same problem but exactly the opposite. My 80 year old mother does not believe in God, Jesus, prayers, bible etc. She does pray rosary but she said she does not believe in any of these but doing it as a routine. Last week I argued and begged her not to be like this. She is so adamant. May be due to tough life she had in the pasrt. Raising 5 children, no job for husband etc. I tried my best to convince her with my little knowledge but i could not make any impact. May be as u said pray for her is the only way.

Pray for my youngest son Joshua, and my daughter in law cheri who has some bizarre beleives about the catholic faith. She thinks mary is still in her grave and not risen. I gave her a movie of Fatima for Easter so she could understand but no. What can I say to her? She is Pentecostal.

I just pray everyday for all my children, their families and all my relatives who are no longer practicing Catholics. One son does not even discuss the existence of God with them. One daughter ( 37 years old ) is an escort. None have been married in the Church. But I don’t believe these are any obstacles for God, who can do all things. They all know what they are doing and what I think about it, but tough love at this age seems pointless. They were all brought up in the Church and know what they are doing goes against everything I believe and have taught them. I love them all, no matter what. And they know that. How can a mother not love her children? And if I love them so much, how much more must they be loved by God. I don’t have any time frame - I just pray for them and believe with my whole heart that God will reach them and they will be healed. Thanks for all your encouragement, Father. 🙏✝️

My 3 boys have left the church and I have now made that my mission in life to have them return to God. Secularism has taken many from God’s love and it is the new sin but as long as I am alive I will never cease praying for God to act in their souls and make it known to them that he is waiting for them. This is great. I knew St Monica prayed hard for her husband and son but I didn't know it let her to drink. It's a lot of pressure worrying about your family. Thank goodness they converted.

Saint Monica is the Patron Saint of Alcoholics and Mothers. Her husband, Patricius, was a man of rage and anti-Christian. Saint Monica patiently and steadfastly prayed for his conversion. Patricius was converted a year before his death. Saint Monica definitely had her hands full with her wild child Augustine.

Interesting, my family is related to the Germans who sacked Rome in 1527; seems like we share something, Father: both of our families have a past of damaging the treasures of Rome, but then 'succumbing' to the beauty of the faith.

I am Augustine before he was St. Augustine with no St. Monica mother now trying to be a St. Monica mother when I did not even raise my daughter in the Catholic faith. We had her baptized in the Presbyterian church and attended several other denominations. She and my two grandsons have not been baptized or raised in the Catholic Church for which I am to blame and overwhelmed with guilt! Due to Parkinson's Disease, I am thankfully now living with them but unable to drive. Fr. Chris, I thank God for you, Fr.
