This is how you know if you have ADHD and Autism, 5 must see traits you need to know!
1. Irritability & Hyper-focus:
Autistic people will be set to focus on a specific top or activity for a large amount of time. However the ADHD brain kicks in and makes them stand up and walk about or get distracted.
2. Special Interest & Rapid Interest Switch:
People who are autistic will have a topic of special interest that they love to learn about etc, but the ADHD brain will make you switch from obsessive topic to a new obsessive topic often.
3. Fast Speech & Monotone Talking:
Autism usually comes with monotone talking, no inflection on speech. And the ADHD brain makes you talk super fast!
4. Want to Be Social & Social Anxiety:
Lots of ADHD people want to be social and make friends and have fun. The autism brain is also packed with social anxiety and can cause a conflict.
5. Wanting To Talk A Lot & Forgetting What You We’re Saying:
Autistic individuals love to talk about stuff the love for hours in end. How we the ADHD brain will cause a lot of forgetting of keeping on track with the conversation topic.
All input welcome I’d love to start a discussion.

1. Irritability and hyperfocus 2. Special interest and rapid interest switching 3. Fast speech and monotone talking 4. Wanting to be social vs social anxiety 5. Wanting to talk a lot but forgetting what you want to say For all y'all who, like me, searched the comments for the list because you lack the patience to watch the video at regular speed but 2x speed is overwhelming.

It's a chaotic mess to be paralyzingly frightened to walk out the front door into public to go to work followed by incessantly talking to coworker/boss followed by watching youtube, etc, for 8 hours plus on the same topic/genre etc while not getting any personal responsibilities done.... rinse and repeat.

Social anxiety is such a tough condition to experience when everyone around you is very social and extrovert. But 'tis really common.
@terribletallrus6520
@terribletallrus6520 Год назад
I think part of it might be related to problems with ADHD like working memory issues, interrupting, talking too much etc which may have caused issues with socialising in the past which make you more anxious to speak. What's helped me a bit is going to meetups for one of the things I'm interested in (special interest?), foreign languages. I use the Meetup app (also a website). So facing the anxiety by going for something you like and know about can help. But yeah I do still get socially anxious in groups sometimes. Wish you all the best. Peace and love ❤

100% agree I used to have Psychosis and paranoid thoughts like "people thinking about me talking about me etc. Very odd behavior after getting off Adderall from 7-16. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma

As an Autistic with ADHD this gave me all the feels. I’ve come to understand my Autism quite a bit since my late-life diagnosis (what up to my fellow “under the radar” Autistics out there!). I’ve really not gotten a hold on understanding the ADHD side of things. Since I don’t seem to have the ability to do a “surface level” study of anything, looking into anything becomes another full time job😅 I do have to say I wish my brain could “special interest” on social media marketing the way yours does. Instead, that stuff breaks my brain and soul. It’s been such a struggle for me as I do full time online activism. Pouring your heart and soul into you work only to have "the algorithm" turn on you one day for no reason you can determine is devastating. Trying to understand social media algorithms is like me trying to understand human social interaction (like when an exchange with someone goes south but you have NO IDEA why!) Just. Does. Not. Compute. I burnt myself out severely from the stress of trying to figure out how to "make it work" again with my content, and still battle with it profoundly. It actually has been devastating for my mental and neurological health, to extremes that become dangerous. I’d love to hear something about this. I know some Autistics like yourself seem to be able to get into social media marketing as a special interest. But I would think that I can't be alone with it being an extreme challenge. Sorry for such a LOOOONG comment. I’ve never commented on your videos but greatly appreciate your work. Thank you!

This all makes sense to me now. It truly is like these two opposites inside of you. It can be so frustrating at times because when asked a simple question like, "what's your favorite color?" Our brain does this crazy thing, and where the answer should be simple, "blue". But instead of just saying blue, we say, "blue. Well not every shade of blue, I like sky blue but also the blue of the ocean which is not really just blue but a sort of greenish blue and royal blue is nice but sometimes it's too dark and then there's sapphire which is really a sort of purplish blue but it's so pretty but idk I kinda like purple too but not just any purple you know has to be a certain color purple so idk, I guess it really all depends." Meanwhile there is all this anxiety building up as we are trying to figure out if blue is truly our favorite or is it really green? Maybe red..omg it's the wrong answer...I'm going to be judged now....

I never knew I was different in my thought process, pattern and behavior till my sister, after her brain aneurysm and then a mini stroke, she was going through rehabilitation and she said to me...."Kendra, now I know how you think and how your brain works...I told my counselor that this is how my sisters mind/brain must work, I cant follow thru with a single task and get anything done and my house is dirty". Missed out having coffee and a chat with friends and Bingo today, due to being so tired. At least I was able to go with my guider to leave my bicycle in for repair. She commented on how well I did the talking myself, in Dutch. She said I was very social. I replied that I do love meeting and talking with people, the downside being my Autistic brain leaves me very tired, requiring sleep to recover.

So, I'm diagnosed with ADHD and was convinced I had ASD as well, only to be told that no, I just had super ADHD. Now, I plan to get a second opinion when it's feasible. I resonate with all five of these, but some of them seem like they would apply to just having ADHD in general? Rapidly switching special interests is something I've heard of with people who have ADHD only. Personally, I have some lifelong special interests and others that switch.

I knew I would have sensory overload. It bothered me that I couldn’t even attempt to go in. So I decided to get on RU-vid and look up sensory overload. Which brought me to videos on adhd and autism. While I’ve had suspicions of having one or the other, I’ve never been diagnosed (because the American healthcare system sucks and I don’t have access to mental healthcare). Definitely possible I have both. Especially since I can tell the difference when taking my adhd medication. It’s like my adhd is being helped but there’s still more. Hi! I just found your channel. I’m happy to have found it! I have a 7 year old high functioning son with ASD. We just received the diagnosis a few months ago and are trying to wrap our heads around it all. We always knew he was different but we always chalked it up to. That’s just who he is. That’s our special boy but we do also have challenges that we are learning to navigate the day we were delivered his diagnosis I was surprised it wasn’t ADHD, his psychologist told us that it wasn’t off the table, we would come back in a couple of years when he’s a bit older, and if he is still as active then then it would be a probability. We just came back from a birthday party, where I brought my other little boy with us as well. I watched your video on birthday parties for autistic kids, and it really spoke to me. I knew that he would get overstimulated. Unfortunately, the child’s party was not autistic, friendly. It was quite loud with a ton of people and I watched my son get so overstimulated. I had never been at this home before. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a quiet space available to take him to help calm him down and we had just had a snow storm the night before, and it was quite cold outside so I couldn’t even take him outside to calm down when I decided it was time to leave my son got upset because he lost one of the suckers from his loot bag and then sent him into a spiral. He said, and did things that were embarrassing to me, as his parent, I felt at such a loss of what to do and I just wanted to get out of there. I also had my other boy to keep an eye on. That party was like an inside view of what his day must look like at school with 19 other kids in his class-the noise, the lights all of the overstimulation. School is a struggle for us. It was so hard to bring him down afterwards and that sucker just was the straw on the camels back. I worry about future gatherings. He always wants to go and I don’t want him to miss out but I feel like I’m going to have to keep them in constant check give him quiet breaks every so often etc. is there any advice you could give me?

It really gave me some interesting insights about how those two things interact with each other. 2. I just laughed way too hard about this “you know like something is really funny….but not funny…more like funny in an interesting way.” I don’t know if you just said it because we think alike or if this is a trait of adhd and asd as well, because I relate 1000% to this. Even using the word funny for things which are really not funny, but they are somehow funny because they are interesting and this is funny, u know? Because they are actually not funny but this makes them somewhat funny in an interesting way 😂😂 Please don’t tell me I’m crazy 😅

Great video and I would say bulls eye. This description of the ongoing struggle between adhd and asd is brilliant (I feel it even as I am writing this comment). Having thought a lot about it I do come to the conclusion that I prefer the struggle rather than having just one or the other. The ongoing conflict has created a more balanced life for me, even if it can be exhausting. Thank you for the video.

Thanks so much for this video, I was diagnosed autistic a year ago and it wasn't 100% chiming for me, now on a waiting list for co-occurring ADHD. All five of these things are completely true for me. There's not enough out there on co-occurring autism & ADHD and the fight between the two and this video has really clarified things for me.

Yes, I recognize all of these tensions within myself. I think I trained myself out of fast talking and monotone early on. I am gifted in the area of verbal communication. Of course, we learn language when we're young enough that memories are lost in the fog of time, but knowing myself the way I do today, I think I made it a special interest. Good choice, little Janice Sue. I am so grateful to you and the other RU-vidrs who put out content that helps me make sense of my crazy life! Would also like input on marketing. I'm a creator with a business of my own.

I experience pretty much all this except for monotone inflection. I get monotone when I'm tired, overwhelmed, or have a shutdown, but otherwise I've always had absolutely no control over my inflection and it goes everywhere all the time to an inappropriate extent 😭 Within a single sentence that contains no real importance, I'm out here talking like a bird call like ⬇️⤵️⬅️⬆️↙️↕️⤴️↗️↘️↪️🔃↪️🔀 I suspect I have ASD, but if I do, the ADHD is definitely much more noticeable within me. I think it's really kind of cool how much of a spectrum neurodivergence truly is!

Oh my gosh this is 100% me! Everytime I talk my brain freezes up in the middle of a sentence and I will start all over again and stutter while getting exhausted and have trouble breathing just trying to talk and communicate with someone else and the other person will look at me like what is wrong with me, and I sound very irritating to others like my mom and my brother when I talk. I've also been criticized for both talking to much and sounding obnoxious and criticized for being way too quiet and being called a serial killer and others would avoid me. All this lead to anger problems and anxiety disorders that l ended up losing my job at Walmart back in 2018 and I'm currently on disability. I'm currently 34

I'm not diagnosed but a lot of this resonated. It would explain my hyperfixation on fandoms as a kid, and also.. BOY, the watching a movie, then keeping pausing it to do something else, hit HARD. My bad habit is watching something on Netflix, then getting a thought I want to know the answer to, about either the movie or.. anything, and hopping to Google (before I forget!) Case in point... I've paused this video to write this comment!! Also... decision making. Choosing between new products in a store, has me agonising between them, and then looking up reviews and shizzle, to make sure I'm making the correct decision, even though my brain is also shouting "DUDE. It's JUST a new shampoo brand. Make a frigging choice already!" Ugh. So exhausting.

I constantly day dream and procrastinate I find it hard to stick to tasks. I want to get a diagnosis for my son. My girlfriend has lots of autism in her family plus works in a autistic school ironically. I really want to know what my condition is for my son so I can try to understand him better. I am now convinced that I have ADHD yes I do Resonate with a few autistic traits but I feel from your explanation my symptoms are much more ADHD than autistic, yes I’ve paused this two segments in because my mind has wondered but I want you to know you have a new subscriber and thank you 😊

Thank a lot for sharing ! Such a synchronicity, before I see the psychologist tomorrow. I hope to have the Asperger diagnose results and begin the ADHD diagnose. I love learn about the overlaps, I consider myself as a paradox. 🤣 Gifted, Asperger & surely ADHD (I call it the pack integral!). The overlap of theses 3 conditions is totally me. _ Irritability & hyperfocus ✔ My ex boyfriend was angry I didn't focus on the movie sometimes, he had to stop the video. (I think strongly he have Asperger) _ Specific interest & rapid interest switching ✔ (Exactly what happened to me recently painting and write many video) _ Fast speech & monotone talking. Monotone maybe but fast speech I don't think. _ Wanting to be social & social anxiety ✔ Very possible, Social situations are not my thing _ Wanting to talk a lot & forget what to say ✔ Totally, I have a lot of ideas in mind and want to say a lot of things. It's all or nothing when I speak.

I think I used to talk about my special interests a lot but then I realized nobody cared and so I would trybto talk about it but be super unable to NOT be monotone and boring and that made it seem like I didn't really care about what I was talking about so then they really didnt care and just diverted their attention elsewhere. I don't talk about my special interests that much anymore and am not even sure what all of them are but I definitely have several. Actually most of the time I can't even think of _anything_ to talk about anymore. Also sometimes my adhd meds would cause me to be completely monotone and absolutely unable to communicate right, causing me to go mostly nonverbal. And it really sucked because I wanted to talk to people but just couldn't communicate effectivly AT ALL. This wasn't every time I took them but it happened quite a few times over the years and a few times it was so frustrating I cried. I don't take any meds anymore, I don't want them. I wander if I have autism that is mostly masked by adhd, but yeah. Oh hey, I have a terrible time with mumbling sometimes too and I don't realize it unless I see or hear a recording of myself doing it and then I cringe at myself so hard. Also I was recently told at work that I was talking too fast, lol.

Wow this was eye opening. You basically described me perfectly 😂. I have been diagnosed as autistic but always wondered if I could have ADHD as well. I have scheduled an assessment and am just waiting for it. I wondered, do you also struggle with impulsivity? It's one of the things I struggle most with. I have rapidly changing interests and will impulsively buy everything associated with that interest but then after a few months or weeks I will lose interest and never use the stuff. This also happened to me in all my past relationships - I'd been almost obsessive and want to talk and spend all my time with someone for like a few months to maybe 6 months then it would be like I suddenly lost interest and became obsessed with something else or someone else. Very annoying.

wow that describes me almost exactly. Never really thought about being on the spectrum before but am diagnosed with ADHD. Well, almost exactly. Except the social anxiety part. I got diagnosed with ADHD a long time ago, I have been looking into Autism for a while, but I only found the world of content specifically for and about people with both a few days ago. Understanding the symptoms of both individually didn’t really feel quite right because my brain wasn’t placing each of them side by side and considering how each of them contradict, and I kept looking for some other option because I had all this inner conflict and turmoil that I felt wasn’t being described well enough by either. Now that I have realized there are people talking about having both and how it affects them, everything makes sense.

Yes ,nearly all of that.i was diagnosed ADHD 3 years ago. I e just turned 61. And I love to entertain and I love outdoor parties too. Happier having people over than going out though. It's the Smalltalk. Can't do the Smalltalk. After about ten minutes of meaningless drivel I sidle off to the nearest fire exit,hide in a dark corner, pull out my little reading headlight, and settle down to read for the next hour while listening to the sound of rainfall. I like a clean orderly space, with everything just so. That's my ASD, Especially if guests are coming. But my ADHD has forgotten completely all about the guests,doesn't know what day it is and thinks I have 3 days when actually they're arriving in 2 hours, and as I frantically try to get things up to my obsessive standard,(proper napkin, pre drinkies mixed and ready. Oriental marinades complete and marinading like mad, ADHD, see a new bass score and says hello? Let's give that a go. All plugged in and no plectrum. You have no idea. The world will die in a burning ball of plasma if I can't give this piece of music a five minute run through and that can't be done because I haven't got my plectrum. I unplug and systematically eviscerate all my previous organising and tidying. I look wverywhere. I just spot the daughter's wellies,yes I know. But I have to check. Doorbell rings People at door. Answer door feeling a bit spazzled and see a bottle of fizz coming toward me. With a birthday card attached. I'm frozen with confusion! No idea why I now have wine and surely my birthday's not till 25th? Oh. It is the 25th. I'd invited everyone. Close friend who knows me ushers other couple in excavates space on sofa and goes to fridge for milk. She found the dishwash I was looking for yesterday. The milk was by the sink. She takes over and as she gets the earl grey tea bags out, there is my plectrum! The new couple I'm being introduced to want to hear the new music. I plug in ,tune up and let rip. Awesome. Glad I bought the whole score. The compulsion to play has been satisfied and as I view in dismay the trail of destruction and eviscerated content of wardrobes and drawers, thinking, oh god's! Where did all that come from? Where will I put it?Guest pis#in themselves with laughter, kindly point out that the newly discovered, essential planet saving plectrum, remained clamped between my teeth through the whole performance ! I'd forgotten to use it ,and plucked and slapped instead .entire house now in a state of complete disarray .devastated. But I'd found my plectrum and was happy. I ordered in. 🖖🤣🙄🤪🥁

Thanks for the video. I was surprised that I didn’t relate at all to your description of ADHD features, particularly the inability to sit still, or the inability to focus on areas of interest. I’ve never had the hyperactivity, though very occasionally I have impulsivity that makes me get up and move. Areas of interest seem to be inherently motivating enough that I can focus forever on them, often to the exclusion of low motivation activities.

I just received my formal diagnosis and I am indeed Autistic, and have ADHD, CPTSD, general anxiety disorder. It feels good to finally have my questions answered. Finding out has answered so many questions for me personally and why I am the way I am. Find real experts and make sure you get formally diagnosed and go through the tests they give you otherwise some Dr.'s will just label you with some sort of label like bi-polar like 1 psychiatrist tried to do to me. Luckily I didn't except his lazy diagnosis because my cousin told me that you have to go through a series of tests. I am late diagnosed as well so you need to make sure you find experts who have experience with late diagnosis for Autism.
