Same! I've been so dissatisfied with my hair care recently because nothing seems to work! I didn't even know having a combination was possible until now!
@@Hayleigh_bI started bleaching my hair then dying it my normal color. U can literally bleach the grease out lol tons of threads on people doing it out of desperation!
This generation of people are so lucky, I wish I had this information when I was young, my hair was awful out of ignorance. So glad to have found your channel I've learned so much about hair that I wish I had known 40 years ago.
Some times there'are too much bad info..an exemple..your hormones dont change if you dont clean and wash your hair..so..if its dirty and you have oily scalp you 'd better wash it so often you need..any tricology doctor can give you this advice..so..this video also have wrong news..😂
I'm so glad there is more consideration for us oily scalp people and we are no longer being told to not wash our hair for a week. To clarify, I tried that once. For a year. My hair looked so, so bad.
There is no product that works for everyone so these kinds of reviews are almost useless. Drugstore shampoos are not for my combination processed hair for sure. I have tried Davines, Brae, Redken, Olaplex, Wow you name it. Some products works, some don't. I would refrain of using Davines 10 in 1 leave- in and their oil from the same OI series because it makes my hair greasier and heavier no matter how hard I rub before applying a tiny bit of it. Olaplex 3 makes me want to switch to K18 or Redken 14. Wow is a good coating, let's see how the Pureology leave-in works on my hair that is still porous and dry.
I have learned i’m just an oily person, i am not built for clean girl silk hair aesthetic lol. i have tried every single method and my face and hair still becomes oily in the same day. oily girls unite 🥂
Same o can wash my hair at night and when I wake up it's oily again. I've tried going without washing but once a week for a long time to try and "regulate" but it never did
@@ambertunney96do what I did and look up bleaching your hair to combat grease. I bleach my hair every few months and dye over it. There is tons of threads about bleaching the grease out. Something about the oil not being able to hold to the follicle or something. Either way bc my hair is so greasy the bleach doesn’t bother it, and now I can go a few days without washing bc my hair is so much less oily! Desperate times!

I watch your videos every morning when they’re available as I get ready for my day. I don’t even do my own hair- you taught me too well over the years haha! 😅 I just watch the channel for you. Brad is so lovely to watch I actually told my 13yo daughter to watch some of his videos after she had a nightmare and she said they helped her feel better 🥲
I have never applied product when my hair is sopping wet. You just dilute it and need more product to get the same result. Of course, I have been styling my wavy hair since before the whole curly girl movement set up a ton of rules to follow. IMHO, some good, some unnecessary. Like squish to condish.
@@terrykobrenski4781 was that wavy hair? i said CURLY hair. we have thicker her and damp hair does not sleek on the products the way wet hair does. so if you feel a way because you feel you own waved hair or curly hair, you are barking up the wrong tree with that. i have 3c curly hair and those who know? knows. now maybe for your hair texture it works. but not on mine. thanks for stopping by tho.
I mean I have a pretty tight curl and I can do it damp or soaking wet. It all depends on my mood. Personally I don't towel dry at all, but if I let my hair sit for a while it becomes damp. It all depends on the desired end look. Disclaimer, when I style damp I don't get kore frizz
I have very frizz prone fine hair. If I try scrunching it when it’s only damp, I tend to get more frizz, even with great styling products. The point is, that everyone is different. What works or doesn’t work for you may work or not work for someone else.
Also worth noting, there are medical causes for having an overly oily scalp (hormone imbalances for one), so it might be worth talking to your doctor if you are majorly struggling with an oily scalp. (Sorry if Brad already mentioned this, I may have missed it.)
Brad! Can you PLEASE do a video on female hair thinning/loss? I have long hair and it used to be thick and now, at 30 and a stressful long relationship, it’s long still but I feel like there’s SO much fall out in the shower. It’s thinning a bit around the hairline. It still looks good when I style it, but I want to prevent any future loss. Scalp is dry but no dandruff and I’ve tried so many shampoos. I’ve had luck with a rosemary oil scalp/hair treatment before using a rosemary shampoo/mask that I use twice a week. I’ve definitely noticed less fallout but idk help. Also I’m Italian, so..female hair thinning is pretty common. Haaaalp
Omg! I had this exact same thing happen. After I got out of my terrible and stressful relationship I realized that my hair had gotten so thin. I was so bad at self care and too depressed to do anything with my hair and seems like it's all gonna now. I was just looking at pics from when I was younger last night and I wanted to cry. I really wish there was something I could do to reverse it all together but it seems like this is how it is now. It's very upsetting
@@ErgmermergI agree with this. I have hashimotos thyroiditis and my hair is extremely dry, brittle, fragile and snaps at the root as well as falls out on clumps. It's just par for the course of autoimmune diseases 😢
Former hairdresser here, a lot of the time hair loss is actually an external symptom of something going on internally with hormones or deficiencies of essential things for your body, be it nutritional, environmental etc. In my clients if it hit in their 30s or 40s a lot of the time it was hormonal. It is definitely worth a chat with your doctor who can check and assess if everything is as it should be. The good news is, after these things are managed hair generally regrows well.
A hairdressing student here. I'm currently working in a salon, and there's been clients asking this exact thing, as the person above me mentioned it's probably a hormonal issue or some kind of imbalance, but one thing my mentor said is that you can try different treatments. It's not guaranteed they'll work or even do anything at all, but she always said that it's good to massage your scalp when you're washing your hair. That's sort only thing you can do externally, of that makes sense.
thank you brad for being so wholesome and coming on here to talk about things you’re passionate about, and to actually make a difference in our lives helping us. you’re always so mindful about providing many options for us when recommending products or giving advice and we all really appreciate you!! thank you for being so kind, informative and entertaining when teaching us. i remember discovering you 5 years ago binge watching all your videos while i was going through a rough time, relishing in the positivity of your little corner. i’m now an adult instead of a little 8th grader, and really considering going into cosmetology school for hair. remember your channel is a beacon of light in the social media world, and your videos do a lot more good than you may know❤️
Brad Mondo I am obsessed with your videos. I have just begun my haircare journey (only 34 years late to the party) I am educating myself through your videos and the only thing I wish is that I could buy your products in New Zealand. I honestly feel like I'm missing out. Thank you Brad, for inspiring me to have fabulous hair styles and encouraging be to start taking hair care seriously. ❤ Top tier.
Since being pregnant, I know now (more than ever) it wasn't my 'haircare routine' that made my scalp oily, it's my hormones. I also notice it when it's the time of the month. So everyone that says: 'only wash your hair once or twice a week'... That's fun if you don't have the impact of your hormones. (; Now that I'm pregnant, I can finally do that. But before I had to wash my hair every other day.
So true though, I took acne medication a few years ago that messed with my hormones and it was the least oily, least irritated and itchy my scalp has ever been. It returned to oily and itchy once I stopped taking the med.
I have very fine, thin hair that gets oily VERY quickly. I’ve tried the training method twice (once for months and this time it’s been over a year) and it doesn’t get any less oily for me 🤷🏻♀️
ofc it doesn't! what he says about "hair training" is a bunch of bs. please listen to an actual expert on this topic, like a dermatologist or a trichologist, not a hair stylist.
Some people are just oily people and no amount of shampoo or no shampoo can help that. I'm very oily, my face is also very oily. I tried all of these things but nothing helped, it's just the way my skin is. Somehow these people who make RU-vid videos never address that lmao.
same! for years i've tried "training" my hair so many times for so long but it just never worked. as @Nikki-rx8ri i also have very oily skin, all over. because its just the way our skin is no matter what we do our hair will always get oily. its internal.
I have the same issue. What completely helped me is using volumizing shampoo and hydrating conditioner. Leave conditioner in while scrubbing the shampoo in with a scalp scrubber. Then wash it out from scalp to ends. Then go in once more with the shampoo all over to get out whatever conditioner didn’t get soaked in off my hair and wash it off immediately so it doesn’t dry it out too much. One thing that I noticed helps tremendous is do a cold water rinse afterwards to close up all the pores and follicles. Then I use a volumizing foam on my scalp (not too much) and Paul Mitchell’s serum on the ends. Use a wet brush and dry my hair in sections plus upside down. Using this method I can sometimes go 2-3 weeks without washing my hair. And I used to have to wash it EVERY day because it got so oily so damn fast.
Omg! You just wrote a happy ending to my horror story and I'm really happy to know the steps I've been taken so far were the right ones. Long story short, I moved to Japan. Before, I had perfect, soft, shinny wavy hair without doing anything special. In Japan, I noticed it started to get freezy and dry. After the feather like softness gone then the snow fall started until I scratched my scalp once and a chunck of... Dead skin I guess I don't even want to know.... Fell off. I started losing bunch of hair and everything I was trying didn't work... Shampoo frequency, changing brands, etc. That was until I heard in a banal discution that the tap water in Japan was STRONG as hell. A lot of minerals and other stuffs I don't remember the name was inside. I got myself a filter shower and DAMN that helped a lot! Second thing was the ingredients in the shampoo. Asians tend to have very thick and strong hair so the ingredients in the shampoo is different from the Canadian one, even the same brand. I tried very expensive shampoo from Japan and I finally had to find my soul-shampoo/cond. On Amazon. In the procress, I lost half of my hair. I was applying my c conditioner in the shower and it was falling off like bleach fail. I thought at some point I had contracted some kind of desease but since I got my filter head shower and my soul-shampoo/cond. I see some growing going on! My hair falls to my lower back and I'm always getting a hair cut in Japan, so it's really even (no big layers) everytimes I wake up, I see these little growing crazy fellows sticking out of my night braid 😂 but I'm so happy to see them! My hair is doing good but my scalp still have issues, very dry and stuff so I wanted to use a scalp mask or something. I've never tried it so I don't really know what to use, but we'll see! Thank you for saving everyone's hair! I love your videos! You're always so sweet ❤
YES, cleaning your hair brushes are essential. I never realized this up until this past year. I clean mine every 2 weeks, if not sooner if using a lot of product, I clean the hair out, use a small tub or big bowl, hot water, dawn dish soap, and vinegar, then let them sit for a bit, swish them, massage them to clean them, take them out run under hot water . It also makes my hair brushes last alot longer, as well as your combs. Its amazing what you see in the water after.....so YES clean your brushes.....
I got Hydraglow for my birthday (shampoo+condition+conditioning spray). My ends haven't felt that soft in SO LONG. So definitely a good pick if you're in the same boat as I am, which is the one Brad discusses in this video :)
I shampoo when I feel dirty. It fluctuates for me. Sometimes twice and some times once a week. Brad's knowledge keeps growing. It's really cool to see. I remember watching his old video about how wash hair. The main takeaway here of new information is how much shampoo to use. In his old video he said use a dime size amount and I never saw that as enough product. I lose my suds near the ears and have to go in for more. I can get away with about a nickle sized amount for the front and back and then I need more for the sides.
If only you had released this video yesterday. I have combo hair and just got soooo frustrated with the dry ends that I chopped off 80% of the length of my hair. 😂😂 Thank goodness it grows back.
I am glad I came to your class, too. I love getting to learn from you. I don't do my hair. I pay my hair stylist to do it. She gives me a blowout twice a week. After some testing, I discovered that 2 washes a week does well for my hair. She always starts by exfoliating my scalp before washing it, and then goes and washes it twice. She does a really good job taking care of it and keeping it healthy. And because I don't want to ruin anything she did, I try to touch it as least as possible.
Another thing to pay attention to; how your hair feels when it's wet. A lot of problems can be diagnosed when your hair is wet. If it feels like dry grass clippings, it's seriously dried out. That's when you need a deep moisturizing mask, and a better every wash day conditioner. If it feels more like cooked spaghetti, it is protein-depleted. You need a mega-protein treatment. And, you should use a leave-in with protein. If it feels like slime when it's wet, there's no coming back to healthy hair. You can't fix it with anything that is applied to the surface of the hair. It's truly "dead" hair, and needs to be cut off.
@@songbirdyy After detangling with conditioner, yes. But not just water wet. I had my hands in thousands of people's hair. I don't remember healthy hair ever feeling slimy with nothing on the hair.
@@svenbengtsson9753 The best way to describe what normal, healthy hair should feel like, is to say - Touch the untreated hair at your scalp. Seriously, you just rub your fingers into your hair right after you shampoo and rinse. It should feel smooth and firm, and you should be able to discern individual strands when you rub it between your fingers. Hair that is slightly rougher feeling at mid-stand is normal. As is the very ends of very long hair. It's completely normal to lose a bit of internal moisture and protein once your hair reaches about 12 inches or so. But if it starts feeling brittle or stiff when wet, it needs more than a simple conditioner.
As someone who has hereditary oily hair with dry ends, me knowing it's hereditary due to that fact my grandfather slept on a towel over his pillow and plastic under his pillow case. I appreciate that not only did i get 9/10 questions right. But i wasn't crazy or wrong like people told me when i said i need a clarifying shampoo on my roots and to use a super creamy conditioner for my ends. Instead of the standard oily hair shampoo and conditioner combo that never worked. The only thing that sucks is i know all this and still have it so oily that i end up only not being an oil slick incarnate when i wash everyday. But still appreciate the not feeling dumb and crazy part, so thanks!
Dear Brad, I love your videos, you're one of my all-time favorite creators. I even use your products, because they absolutely SLAP! My problem is this: My hair is thin, wavy most days, naturally, and curly when I use products. Because of it being thin, it's not incredibly long, either. And I've looked FOREVER to find a good tutorial for a shorter thinner hair. I'm dying to give myself a good haircut (I've been cutting my own hair most of my life) but with my hair thinning out since I've hit 40, I've struggled to want to cut it but not having a good guide or idea of how to do it. (I'd love to do the butterfly cut, but my hair's too short to pull it all to the front and be able to cut more than an inch away from my face) Edit: As of 10/22/23 I've done the butterfly cut, and it's super cute! Can we please have a tutorial for those of us that have thinner hair, or would love to rock a shorter style? Much Love, The Lady Wolf
I have a few questions, for people in the comments and Brad 😅 1. Should you use a detangle/wet brush to evenly distribute the conditioner throughout the lengths of your hair? 2. Do you have a video on dry scalp/dandruff? I have dandruff, top of my head gets greasy after a couple days, and I have dry ends 🙄 It does my head in. I use Head and Shoulders but I'm not sure if it's the right shampoo for my hair type 🤷♀️ Any information would be helpful, thank you. 3. I'm disabled and using my fingers too much makes my hands fatigued and weak. Could I benefit from using a shampoo brush/scalp massager instead? 4. Does anyone know if Brad (or someone else) has a video on how much shampoo and conditioner you should use for different hair lengths? Love your videos Brad, I watch clips everyday, thanks for sharing 😊
I have dry scalp as well, and it bugs me so much. I also use Head and Shoulders (it’s the combo of shampoo and conditioner), but I always felt like my hair was very dry after I was all done washing it and everything. So I started using another conditioner as well just on my middles and ends, and it’s been a night and day difference. I think a scalp massager could work very well for you, I have actually been thinking about getting one as well since I’ve heard lots of good things about them.
Seriously.. how many times did I go to bed with my hair half washed, damp on my pillow, with no products just to wake up looking like a hot mess?? 😅😅 too many times
I remember being very little (4, maybe) and my mom bathing me in the tub. She’d put conditioner on my long hair and would always clip it real quick while I bathed myself, telling me to not wash it out of my hair until I was ready to get out and dry off. That carried with me through my teens and into adulthood lol … I still clip it back if it’s long enough and wait until I’m ready to get out to rinse it. My hair would always be detangled and free of tatting/knots. She also stressed the importance of not washing hair with warm/hot water (which is a bummer as I love hot showers). Helps it feel so smooth and healthy.
As someone who used to shampoo and condition everyday as a kid and teen with Pantene my hair was so oily and gross… then I switched to lush shampoo and conditioner and can go every other day and my hair has never been happier and healthier
I have such thin hair that gets both oily and frizzy at the same time. It's so frustrating. Thank you for the advice and encouragement! I really needed it today.
I know that this video is about the basics (& I have happy healthy naturally curly hair), but I still think it’s fab & super helpful! For example, I just learned that I’m overdoing hair masks on the reg. That’s why my hair gets weighed down. Thanks Brad, I’m gonna use more regular conditioner more noe too. 😊
I just want to thank you for this video. I've been struggling with my hair being dry but scalp being oily. I used the advice in this video (well, I use all your advice when it comes to hair, really) and it's been 3 days since I've washed my hair and it's not oily!!
Once I've washed & dried my hair, it feels so lovely, that's when I start touching it, running my fingers through it, thanks Brad, I'm making it oily again ❤
- Use a strong “clarifying” shampoo that will detox and strip the excess oil from your hair - Dry shampoo/baby powder in between hair wash days (bonus tip: it makes your hair fluffy and voluminous) - Drink 3-4L of water every day - Try consulting a dermatologist to understand why your skin/hair is too oily - Sleep on a silk pillow case and wash/change it every 2-3 days.
@@bethg7026 within a few hours (this isn’t my hair but my moms. I was looking into something for her and who else but Brad!) she has to wash her hair EVERY DAY bc she will wash it in the morning and the very next day/ morning it’s oily again. She doesn’t like to wash her hair everyday but she doesn’t like her hair looking greasy. She has very fine and thin hair so this doesn’t help
If you use a very strong detox shampoo, your scalp will over compensate and produce sebum. It’s a vicious circle which you need to break. It’s better to shampoo more frequently, with a mild shampoo.
Oh my! You are my life saver! I moved to a place that has the hardest water of any place I've lived. It has affected my hair, my skin, and in so many ways that I never knew water could! Now i need to brave up and cut some of my hair off and start fresh!! ❤❤
Brad when are your hair care products gonna launch at Sally’s? I picked up your super gloss and I love how soft it made my hair feel. I’m gonna order wave tech since I’ve been living my wavy hair life. Please launch your hair care at Sally’s because I’m too impatient to wait for shipping. Love your hair it’s giving HANDSOME vibes. Love you beautiful 😗❤
Thank you Brad !! Your products sound amazing, I hope to try them someday ! If you ever get enough demand, I would love to hear about tips for really fine hair. I have alopecia and the hair I still have on my head is really thin. Making it look like I still have a full head of hair is a struggle !
Growing up my mom would make me wash my hair EVERYDAY and it was horrible for me! My hair looked like I NEVER washed it because of how oily it was, I got made fun of constantly! In highschool I started washing it only once a week and now (in my 30s) I only wash it once every week and a half to two weeks and my hair has honestly never looked better and more healthy Much love from Arizona 💜💜
Love your videos Brad Mondo. I have learned so much from you. I also learned so much from the Blowout Professor and I think it would be so awesome for the two of you to do some videos together and/or even do a video on shampoo bars. I specifically use Viori Bars and they have different bars according to hair type and I absolutely love them. They even started selling them in Sephora stores now. Thanks so much for sharing all your hair knowledge!!
I went to Sally’s I live in Connecticut and I got your pink hair dye and I wanted to let you know that I absolutely love it I got so many compliments at work and it was the perfect amount of pink for me I have light brown hairAnd it was absolutely the perfect shade of pink. Thank you babes❤
I have struggled w this for YEARS!! Once a month is too infrequent but every week reduces my volume considerably so a fortnight is seeming to be the happy medium
I only wash my hair once every 7-10 days! Honestly down to complete laziness because I hate doing my hair 😂 however my hair has only got healthier over the years from doing this. I never get an oily / greasy scalp or hair. I buy a good quality shampoo and condition but they last me 6-8 months due to how little I use…win win situation!
I have to buy shampoo and conditioner maybe 3 times a year now, it’s actually insane how much I was spending on worse products back in the day. Now I can buy a fancy leave in conditioner and keep it for half a year instead of a month
I do the same! My hair is much softer now than when I was younger! I realized all I had to do was invest in a good quality/consistent haur routine lol. And eat healthy/drink water
Thanks so much for these tips. My scalp has been itchy and feeling crap. You have just put the writing on the wall why this is. So thank you for helping us x
Thanks Brad 💕 Any advice for frizzy roots? 🙈 I thought adding product there would help tame it, but then it just gets oily faster too... It doesn't seem to matter whether I let it scrunch & airdry with curl products, or blowout or even straighten; there's always this fluffy hair at the roots 😭
I just bought a bamboo brush and a microfiber towel because i read that it can helps with frizz but that's all I know so a video from Brad about frizzy hair would be really useful
I used to wash every day and it was so time consuming, over the course of a couple of years, I have trained my hair and gone from oily hair to just normal hair and I can wash every 4-6 days. It took time to get there, but it was worth the journey. I disagree about just washing the top of the scalp though, you have to really wash at the nape of the neck and around the ears. I love Bumble & Bumble products, they are awesome, but what I really need is a product that thickens, but doesn't leave fine hair like straw.
Something that helped me with having very oily scalp and dry hair is cowashing. It sounds pure counterintuitive but I went from having to wash my hair twice a day to being able to go 2-3 days without washing.
I usually have very dry hair and scalp. I rarely use shampoo at all- only conditioner. If I use shampoo it makes my scalp and ends even more crispy and dry. The only time I use it is if I've been sweating from work or mowing the lawn, etc... Do you know people who only use conditioner? I deep condition a couple of times a year. I did just get a jar of your Hydrify treatment and I'm excited to use it! I'm waiting for a bit because I just used your hair color masks- Super Purple and Super Pink. They leave my hair very soft and shiny, so I don't need the hydrating treatment yet. I can say I will never use another hair color again- only Xmondo for me from now on. I dunno what chemists you work with to make it, but they're keepers! haha!
What i hate so much about this combination is that my hair are different depending on the day > shampoo day = normal scalp + dry mids and ends, day after = oily scalps and super soft and healthy mids and ends... So i really hope your advices will work on my hair :D
A great way to clean your brush quickly it getting Tupperware, adding Dawn soap and warm water, then letting your brush sit in it overnight. The hair is easy to remove after that, and after a quick rinse, your brush is practically new. I developed this method after my brush went from copper to blue 😅 kinda embarrassing to see all the grease the next morning, but happy my brush was copper again.
I have depression and it is hard to make myself take a shower. But when I do I shampoo twice at least but I didn't realize I shouldn't do the ends. Thanks so much for all of this. I also use a plastic scrubber for my scalp to get rid of buildup. Now conditioning only the mids and ends I didn't know either! Love learning new things like this!

My answers :o) C, uuh C? Every hairstylist I know says two times, all of the stylists I went to only did once and my dad looked at me horror when I said I wash it twice on a special occasion when I want no residue at all (although we all know more suds doesn't mean it washes better, but hehe foam goes brrr) , B (I know a girl who had hair down to her hips who discovered from me you should only shampoo your scalp); B I have seen improvement when trying a professional shampoo but my hair always feels mid when I come back from the hair salon (except with my previous hairdresser, had my hair done once by her, best hair I've ever had, she retired shortly after), I either do A or B even when my hair doesn't feel dry I put on mids and ends to add slip, C? I can go as often as B in winter or A when it's damaged but I think C is the technically correct one, what products are you talking about: styling products(setting lotion) I apply after towel drying, conditionner and haircare products I apply in the shower, oils and such when it's dry so I don't overdo it, C oils don't sink in leave ins sit on the surface of my hair for some reason masks sink in and replenish whatever I've stripped out when damaged I use all three, C although I often do all over (moreso if I plan on heat styling or I have hearstyled) just in case, C I go once a week Victorian haircare manuals advice every time but who has the time( plus you cannot use that BBB until it dries) I think I'm doing well
i should wash my hair every other day but i only wash it twice a week because i'm lazy and personally scalp training didn't work for me but brad recommended it so i won't call it bullishit x
You have to rinse all of that conditioner out! If you blow dry or straighten your hair and their is oil left....you just gonna fry you hair. Please put oil in you hair after styling! Thanx❤
Some extra tips: use satin pillows, braid your hair (not tight) over night and try ricewather and scalp massaging.. This also changed my life ☺️🙏🏻 But it's good to see, that I'm doing everything right 🥰 Just (box)dyeing and bleaching my hair wayyy to much and f up my own haircuts..😂😂
One thing that has helped me is to not lathering up the shampoo in my hands before applying just apply it as is then start sudsing it up this helps the shampoo remove dirt better
Thanks for the great advice on oily scalps I've seen a lot of improvement using my new acne medicated shampoo and conditioner but I've washing my hair almost everyday and while it is a lot softer it's not as shiny so I'm gonna try and only wash it a couple days a week
