Picture it. You're a school administrator or homeschool parent eager to take your school and students into the world of classical education. You've read the books, done the research, prepared your reading list, and are ready to get started. And then the pushback starts. Your students, parents, and maybe other family members don't understand what you're going for. What's the point of all this hard work? What is classical education? What's the point of making a change in the first place?
Don't worry. We've heard this story before. Today Memoria Press and Classical Et Cetera are here to share our experience in transitioning preschool, kindergarten, high school, and homeschool families and administration into a classical model.
We sit down with Kathy Becker, a classical school expert, to talk about the challenges, trials, and joys of transitioning from a modern, public, progressive school model towards a classical education and traditional pedagogy.
Join us at the table as we discuss the importance of training in a liberal arts education, instilling traditional values into your homeschool or classroom setting, getting teacher and parent buy-in on the philosophy of your new vision, and how a comprehensive curriculum will go a long way to getting started in classical Christian education.

Once I learned about classical education from memoria press I realized how dumb I am from regular schooling and was really inspired to expand my own education as well as my children’s.😅

@@memoriapress What is the best way for an adult to acquire a classical education? Book recommendations or any courses?

Great question! For adults it begins with a study of the Great Books and Latin. Works by Plato and Aristotle are always a great place to start and Memoria Press has a comprehensive Latin curriculum to get you on your way. Following that, we offer a Masters of Arts in the Great Books through Memoria College as well as non-degree seeking courses in the great books. We provide a reading list for each of our course categories at memoriacollege.org.

Also, this just in from Tanya! : "I would start a self-study of Latin using Henle I with our study guides and Jon Christianson's good instructional videos. And if you don't know Greek mythology, I would start there, and honestly, even though D'Aulaires' is a picture book, it is so well-written and probably the most efficient way to gain a good understanding of mythology. Then, go through the Book of the Ancient Greeks and read Homer's Iliad and Odyssey (which we also have instructional material for). Then repeat this process with the Book of the Ancient Romans and Vergil's Aeneid. This would be a great start, and then we can talk again after all this has been completed." Hope this helps!

I had an English teacher who introduced us to the tragic Greek mythologies and their relevance to modern life - I always remember the tragic character flaw that was the main character's downfall. Great stuff! I graduated in 1967 at the time when we did get some of the old, tried and true education mixed with progressive junk. At least I learned basic math and history. Today's kids are so stymied and smothered with polital agendas. No wonder homeschooling has had a comeback!
