Chris, this song & this arrangement are my new favs by Home Free! Adam did an AMAZING job with it (Please tell him that!!! 👌🏻🫶🏻🔥)! I could listen to it year-round. I am a due-hard HF fan, & love everything they’ve put out. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, & keep putting music & videos out. We love them! God bless! 🎄❤️🙏🏻
you probably dont care but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can watch pretty much all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Have been streaming with my gf for the last few months :)
I'm a bit confused here because in the home free video of Do You Hear What I Hear after they had sung the song they were talking about it and they had said that Austin Brown was doing the arrangement. FUN FACT: I have sung Do You Hear What I Hear with my school choir called Just So Singers.
Chris, this one is by far, the best arrangement Home Free ever did. I love this one cranked up...I listen to it all year long. Adam did an awesome job of putting this together and the set it was shot out was beautiful. Totally my favorite.
Waaay beyond beautiful !!! The arrangement/harmonies had me on my knees !! An extremely musical brother..you know like perfect pitch...the whole gambit..gave u his Highest praise .." Yeah I'd buy tickets for their concert". The scenery...well living in Alberta Canada I felt right at home!!!
Love you Chris Rupp.. you are so amazing you and your brother for starting this amazing acapella group God bless you.. I've been following you guys since the Sing Off ... I have listened to you guys from your covers to your original song to your live concerts.. miss you Chris being in Home Free but what a wonderful decision when you got Adam Chance what can I say about all six of you??? Phenomenal..
I don't listen to alot of music, but this one is so captivating, one can't help but watching it over and over, I'm not even sure if one could even critique it, there's nothing to critique, it's perfection, from harmony, placement, scenery, and the beatboxing is astounding. I could just imagine what the little drummer boy would sound like. Actually I can imagine it, and it brings tears to my eyes when I do. If I had to rate this between a one and ten I couldn't since it's worthy to be rated in triple digits.
This is the video and song that hooked me to Home Free just after the first listen :) I'm not going to lie, it took me 3 plays to realize there were no instruments. :) I have always loved this Christmas song and that is part of why I hit a random link to a video by a group I never heard of before. Adam really knocked this one out of the park. He should arrange more :) I had him show me how he created that opening sound for my personal Patreon video and as luck would have it they shot those during the Florida part of the tour so he also told me more during UVIP next night. So amazing how a simple sound when amplified can sound. Just wow. :)
"The coolest place we ever filmed." Ha! I think this is the best arrangement of ANY Christmas song, ever. And I never really liked this song before. And you guys killed it. Tim's "5 octaves in 5 seconds" impresses no matter how many times I hear it. And all those interwoven vocal lines caress my ears. Awesome. Fabulous. Gorgeous. Not enough superlatives.
I love these walks down memory lane with your reaction videos..... I must confess that this was one of my FAVORITE songs and then videos from back then. I loved the arrangement the first time I heard it. Then when I heard Adam arranged it, my mind was blown by the awesomeness. Every Christmas time, this is one of many I have to listen to.
6:38 "One of the coolest locations". Yep. 25 degrees, if your memory is correct. Maybe a bit cooler, since it was apparently filmed after sunset. ;) Thank you for occasionally looking at your own work with Home Free. It's fun to get more of a behind the scenes look at the song and video.
Also at 6:38? Adam claps and the light on the right (his left) changes from green to blue. Almost like "clap on, clap off", like it was responding to him--nice editing there. I've watched this video easily two dozen times...never noticed that before. I only noticed it this time because Chris was talking about the lighting.
This is one of my favorite videos of yours. The voices are beautiful, the arrangement is amazing, the cool sounds, the castle, all contribute to a great rendition. I also love your rendition of What Child is This? Love, love, love it. Your voice is beautiful. I just discovered you guys this year. You have brought me so much joy. I listen to you and Home Free everyday. Thanks for all your hard work and beautiful songs. Sorry this is late!
This has been my favorite Christmas song for years and I was very excited when we sang this in high school. That was many many years ago and I was still singing the harmony part I learned back then because it sounded nice. Until you guys. Now this is my favorite arrangement. My choir teacher loved to discuss every bit of a song we were going to sing (before we sang one note) and the only part of the discussion I can recall after all these years is about how simple this song starts out and then gets more complicated until then end. Not that it's important, but it's a fond memory. Thank you for the memory and a wonderful video that still gives chills and smiles each time when watched/listened to! ^_^
Absolutly one of my favorit HF songs. Tim's dragon breath, Austin's high runs, and fenomenal guitar sounds, Adam's fantasic beatboxing and arrangement. Rob is always a pleasure, and so nice, that you sang soloparts. Did you take the bassline, when Tim was singing?
So so excited to find your channel! 🥰Super cool seeing you react to them especially being Adams brother with yourself singing too. If I may ask why did you break from them?
First of all, you always look good! You are a very handsome man. Secondly, this is one of my absolute favorite Home Free arrangement/song/video! The arrangement was incredible with the vocal harmonies so intricately woven that I seriously hear something new every single time! Shout out to Adam and you for the arrangement. I think what I love the most about it is that I know my Dad would have loved it! He passed away years ago, but he loved this song, and it always makes me smile when I hear it, because I know he would have loved your version so much! Thank you for reacting and giving us your insight on this, it's the one I've most been looking forward to. Best wishes and Happy Holidays to you, your family, and the rest of Home Free! (BTW, this Home Fry really misses you in the group!)
This is one of my all time favs from Home Free. It’s incredible! I really enjoy watching you walk us through how it came about. Surprised by that tidbit about having to sing over other random Christmas music. They should’ve shut that off. Anyway fantastic job by all and thanks to Jimmy for risking frostbite to get the shots.
I so enjoy that you do these critical reactions. It's fascinating to get the insider insight into the ins and outs and technical aspects and everything else good in that cornucopia. Thanks for doing this!
Other than being a beautiful Christmas song, this arrangement (Kudo's Adam Rupp) is absolutely magical. The Minnesota Ice Castle, the cool colors, the beautiful music and you guys all looking great were awesomely amazing! Not to mention all of the harmonies and wonderful layers woven into the arrangement. As I am writing this it is July but I love listening to Christmas any time of the year. I listened to one of your solo videos the other day and didn't realize that you could sing Baritone and Bass as well as those beautiful higher octaves. I am happy that you branched out into a solo career but having started Home Free with Adam, your reaction and critique of these videos show that Home Free will always have a special place in your heart. I do miss you in Home Free. I love watching the older videos of Home Free as much as the new ones and yes...you did look good in this video!
The same in english =) I found something I wasn't looking for) But I am very happy about it! It's great that you done this reaction. Epic video) Very like "mysterious" beginning and the further beautiful performance of the song. I admire all of you! You are talented, beautiful and artistic) Special thanks to you and your brother for creating the band!
When someone doesn't know Home Free, I send them to 3 videos: "Man of Constant Sorrow," "Wake Me Up," and "Do You Hear What I Hear?" If that doesn't make them fall in love with the band, then there's nothing more I can do for them. (I sometimes swap out "Wake Me Up" but the other two never vary.) I loved hearing all the BTS info! Brilliant idea, to react to videos you were in. Helps make your channel one of the most interesting music channels on RU-vid.
Hey Chris 👋! Love these reactions of yours, I would love to see you react to some of their quarantine videos as well. Be really cool to see what you think of them.
Okay this is my "several" time watching your reaction to this. Visit your channel a lot. Love your music and love the fact you really stood out in this video. First have to say that as good as you looked then you look better now. Second, Who the hell dressed Tim and Austin for a night shoot in a Minnesota winter? My first thought at the visual after damn that's pretty was "You can definitely tell who the Minnesota boys are." I'm surprised Tim didn't end up with pneumonia or at least frostbite. Keep blessing us with your beautiful voice.
Yes Chris, you looked good in that video. 😉😂 You all did! Definitely one of the coolest places you shot (in more ways than one I would imagine 😂). Love these reactions to HF songs. It is a lot of fun for the fans of the group and of course you. ❤🙏❤
One of my Favourite Christmas Songs... And I just Love this rendition of this. Hats off to Adam for this amazing arrangement. I guess the ice castle give the prefect acoustics for A Cappella. I Love HF, and I'm a very happy Patron...
I have to thank you for revisiting all these videos, I learn so much when you explain it and that just gives a larger view appreciation for them. I have NO Musical training/knowledge. I just know what I like. Having the information you share helps me better explain why I like something. Huh, I'm 56 this June and I guess old dogs can still learn new things after all.
Definitely one of my favorite HF music videos and one of the reason why I became an instant fan. I hope someday you guys could do a collab or cameos for each others videos
A great video! Thank you and the others for all you do and have done. I enjoy having y'all as a new group to listen to. Adding y'all to Celtic Thunder and the Gather Homecoming.
This song is beautiful from the visuals, harmonies, deep notes, the beatboxing, and the amazing arrangement. 💙 One my favorites, but honestly hard to have a favorite way too many good ones! Actually not found a bad one yet. Thank you for doing these reviews! It gives us awesome details of what is going on. Also, love to see your emotions and praise for the guys. You can see that although on different paths now that the love and respect will always be there. I would love if did reaction to Honey I'm Good. I'm sure there some cool or funny stories behind that.
Me and the boys just did a reaction to this video. ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWN. Go check it out Chris. I question though, in the beginning of the video when Tim was singing you held the bass line. Was that for the video or did you hold it in recording?
Thank you! I fell down a rabbit hole of your solo and home free music in December. This is still the one I listen to multiple times a week! I love your last hymns album because it is the first hymns project I can sing with as a low alto.
I remember hearing this one off the album the first time (video or album. I don’t remember which came first). I was floored with this one! It’s so complex, but I love it! It’s my favorite song on the album! It’s one of my favorite Christmas songs, too! I finally had the opportunity (and the courage) to ask Adam during UVIP, at the last show I attended his much I loved his arrangement of this. Then I asked if he might be arranging any other songs in the future. He said probably not, and I forgot the reason. Anyway, you Rupps are an extremely talented family!!!
You are so cute.. not only your looks but your reactions. You really love what you do. It shows in your whole being. I love your explanations about how things were done. Thanks
great reaction Chris. This is on of my favorite Christmas songs and this arrangement really sings to me. I love the insight you bring to your reactions. Please think about reacting to The Wayfaring Stranger you did with Simon (last name unspellable) thats Chris.
Great reaction analyzing yourself and your old group. My only complaint was the volume on the pass-thru video was too low, and you were too loud. Despite those issues, an amazing insight into this performance and the group.
Man you guys are just sooo unbelievably good im more than happy to sub to your channel thank you for some of the best sounds and music out there . Newman from Niagara falls NY
Well Chris first of all that is my most favorite Christmas pice and one of my most favorite Home Free videos because it was a beautiful place to shoot the video and right next door to where I live in Chanhassen!!!!!!!!!
Great analysis of a great song, Chris. I've always wondered, though, why no one ever brings up Austin's little Middle Eastern type of supplement (or ad lib, or run. I'm not great with musical terminology 😎) about halfway through. I've always loved that touch. To me it really adds to the flavor and enjoyment of the whole experience!
I watch this video several times a year, every year. It's my very favorite of all the Home Free videos. I think one of the reasons I love Adam's beatboxing--especially in this one--is because I played the cornet through high school and onward, until about 15 years ago. My idol during high school was Herb Alpert (and his Tijuana Brass). One of my favorites of his from back then was this one: (Acapulco 1922) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OpVM93GCPDA.html . It was one of my favorites to play, and I did the whistling part, too. ;-) Back in the 80s, we would attend every Phil Driscoll concert we could. This was one of my favorites of his: (Because He Lives) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L4klbRVSHBw.html . Another reason I love this particular video is because of growing up in Valdez, Alaska--more snow, most years, than anywhere else in the U.S. Also, we now live in the furthest NE corner of South Dakota (where both of my parents were born and raised), and we get very similar weather to what Minnesota has. :-D I also love Adam's introduction to the song, in the RU-vid description. \0/ Thanks very much, Chris, for analyzing this--I really enjoyed enjoying it again, through your perspective. HUGS!
This was the first Home Free song I heard about 2 years ago now. Not even half way through and I was hooked. Now I finally get to go to my first HF concert. Just wish you were still with them. Nothing against Chance but he's no Chris 🤫
Yes, Chris, you do look good. I think you're a very handsome and sexy looking man. And I love your singing. And I love you for having a hand in starting a band with some of the most moving and magnificent voices I've ever heard. That's before and after early 2016. I have a couple of your Christmas carols -- with Home Free and 7th Ave -- on my seasonal playlist that won't necessarily stay strictly seasonal. Thank you for your beautiful and joyful work.
Hey Adam! Is this rumor true? I heard that when you filmed this that it was so cold that when you each sang the words and music immediately froze (like you said " what you are seeing coming from our mouth is our breath!") and fell to the ground so that Jimmy filmed the song that day but had to come back and capture the words and music as they thawed and became audible as it warmed up. Then he had to take the audio back to the studio and match it up with the video! LOL Great reaction/critique to your selves making amazing music together. And, as one commentator said, it would be great if 7th Avenue could do a collaboration with Home Free. Not only you guys sounding fantastic, but I think your sister's voice would possibly cause a fracture in space-time because it would sound so wonderful when combined with the rest of the group!
Hey Chris, hope everyone is well. "Adam did the arrangement" "Starts with drum sounds" Go figure. :-/ :-) "Oh yeah, I look GOOD" You are going to look better and better to yourself, looking back, as you age. One of the rather few things that gets BETTER, actually, depending on how you look at it. Do you know what Tim's bottom chest note is? Just curious. The way he speaks, it's gotta be down there pretty low. Some of Austin's vocal effects are very nice, and not often heard, at least not by me. I like the bit of yodeling he put in one (Denver's "Thank god I'm a Country Boy", I think) , and he did it very well. How weird is it that the "best location you ever shot at" was free, and came with lighting? Stranger than friction. It WAS a very cool location (sorry), I remember my wife and I commenting on it to one another at the time. As always, enjoyed it.
