This was Adam's amazing arrangement. They say it was the most complicated arrangement they have done.

Yes, our Adam does do some very complicated arrangements but this is why we love him so much. This song will never be the same for me. Now when I hear someone else's version , it just doesn't sound as good. HomeFree as usual took it to a whole new level. Considering how much Tim hates being cold 🥶I'm surprised that he stood there as long as he did. Beautiful rendition for me. Glad you liked it. 🎄❄☃️🎄

I love this arrangement. Everyone I've heard, who knows about these things has said how technical it is. Chris (In his reaction) talks about how much brother is asking of these guys. As for Tim... zip up your jacket!! Sorry, it's the mom in me. But look at what the natives, Rob, Chris and Adam wear. 🥶🧥🔥

When Chris covered the bass for Tim if they needed a really low note while Tim is singing lead in studio they would layer Tim in Of Course live Chris would do it. Although Chris sang baritone with Home Free he is actually a low tenor. Now that they have Chance it isn't necessary because Chance can get so close as to not make a difference.

This is one of the songs for which Home Free changed my whole appreciation. I think Adam's arrangement is the best arrangement of any Christmas song, ever. Never really liked it before, but now I listen to it all year. I just saw them do it in Mankato and it is just as mindblowing in person. I think we need more Adam arrangements. Happy holidays!

HF does tend to take a song and make it their own - no matter the genre. Their individual abilities give them freedom to play around with arrangements - and this one of Adam's is fantastic. They aren't limited by "we only have 2 tenors", "we only have 1 bass", "we only have one beatboxer", etc. , Yes, I'm sure Darren added some effects for the recording, but from what I hear it is as impressive in person. You will find many songs that they have covered that someone will say, "I never liked this song until now" about. For me it is Mary Did you Know?, but I do know for some it is this song.

Eight years ago they recorded in Minnesota where their sound engineer and current arranger lives and works, but over time Adam Rupp has developed his own studio where he produces his own percussion and sound parts of their songs. Obviously he uses reverb, but every professional sound producer uses reverb, even with live performances. During Covid, since group members live in different parts of the country, three of the guys developed home studios where they can produce their parts from home remotely with their recording engineer, Darren Rusk, in Minnesota. Rob lives close to Darren so he just goes to his studio. Rupp produces his stuff and works with Darren to put his part together with the others. The guys just give Rupp autonomy to do what he wants to do. During live performances Rupp does his percussion and sound live and works a loop recorder to record live on the spot to repeat recurring sounds he or other group members do for backgrounds during the song.

Almost every video song is lipsinc over a recording that was cleaned and processed. This one was discussed in one of Chris Rupp's Home Free series You Tube shows. Nornally, each voice is recorded separately and mixed for best effect. Yes, i will get some hate for this, but this comes from them. That does not mean that they can't and don't perform all songs live. The may create recorded loops to fill out the sound, but you see them, mainly Adam doing this live as well. Recorded or live, all sounds are humanly produced. Recoring Engineering can be use to clean, strengthen or balance. GREAT SOUND AND BLEND IS WHERE HOME FREE STARTS. It is just a fact. You cannot engineer your way to a great sound!

I watched a video Adam did from his home where he showed us around his recording setup he uses. He typically multi-tracks, so he'll have one track of him doing the snare part, one of toms, one of the bass drum, one of hi-hats, one of cymbals etc. Just like any recording he has a digital station where he can add any number of affects, just like 99.9999% of bands do that record. He's a good beat boxer for sure, but I wouldn't compare his live sound to his studio recorded sound, they are not the same. Anyone who thinks they are, just doesn't have big ears. Still, he's killer live. By the way, the audio your using on this sounds a little glitchy, poppy.

I have a question first. The Home Free songs that are remakes of iconic songs, do you have a reason that you dont, or haven't, listened to the original first? I'd like to suggest Elvira by The Oak Ridge Boys. The Oaks actually were guest performers on the track, and it makes me smile everytime I watch it. Also, one of the most loved songs of the 20th century, American Pie by Don McLean. Don also guested on this one. If you would, listen to Elvira (original) first. With American Pie, just research what the meaning of all the different stories. It is mostly about the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valanz and The Big Bopper. But, it also goes over some other things that happened in the mid 20th century, but it's in code.

Just watched both of them. Thanks for the suggestions. I love the live version and Chris’ reaction was very insightful.

I have a great suggestion to you for reactions. This was awesome, by the way! Please check out a young Polish prodigy guitarist (percussive fingerstyle) Marcin. Absolutely mindblowing! Really good songs to start with would be Kashmir, Moonlight Sonata and Toccata & Fugue. He does all his arrangements and writes sheet music and tabs for them as well. You won't regret, I promise! Merry Christmas!

Chris said in a behind the scenes type video that sometimes they would record Tim on base even when Chris sang the part live
