I haven't learnedly to quilt yet. My mother who turns 90 this month and my sister are avid quilters. They do beautiful work. One of these days i plan to learn. I knit and crochet. Love your hat! I am going to check out your 5 day mini course! Great tips!
I so agree on the iron thing. I work at Joann's and we sell like $100 to almost $200 irons and I see people buying them, which is totally fine but I have a $25 iron and I'm so happy with it. It gets the job done And that's all that matters! And I loved this video a bunch. All of your quilting videos have helped me so much. Thank you (:
Sarah M Love Joann's! The one close to my house had a Closeout Sale :(. No more Joann's for me. Stuck with Walmart for sewing needs and fabrics. Wonder how much the irons would of been during their closeout sale.
Thanks for the tutorial! Needed the reminder about how to iron. Some of my blocks come out distorted, and after watching you, I realize I "iron" instead of "press". I use the Best Press, since that is what my quilting instructor recommended. I buy it at Joann's with a coupon, or on Amazon. I also agree with you on the longevity of irons. I go through one every 3 - 5 years, and I just started quilting! I've tried many different brands of irons: expensive, moderate, or cheap, and the more expensive ones last a LITTLE longer, but not really enough to make a difference. So I too, have been buying cheaper ones. I do notice that they don't steam as well as the more expensive ones, and I do a lot of ironing besides quilting. Again, thanks for the advice. Appreciate it!
I use to buy Rowenta exclusively however each on ended up leaking water. Soooo, I found a Black and Decker that has a large reservoir and auto shut off for safety. I love it! For start he I prefer Faultless non flaking heavy and I use steam. Just have to be gentle but there is no way I could sew without ironing. Thanks for the video!
Hi, Melanie. Your quilting tips always help, always. I am thankful to support a sweet, adorable, thoughtful, and nice quilter like you. What do you love about quilts? Have a good day, Melanie. 💖💖💖
My iron waseven cheaper, I paid only 10 euros for it. But it does the trick and I caneven iron some clothes when needed. When this one starts to fail I might pay a little more for a new one but not sure yet. We'll see what happens then.
I have the same iron as you have in this video. What I absolutely hate about it is the circle dial is directly under your fingers. I always bump it slightly with a knuckle and it changes the temperature I had it set at. I'm constantly resetting it. It isn't fun when I accidentally bump it to a higher temperature and use it on a delicate fabric.
i found a brand new rowenta iron at the flea market for $5! i was so excited and thought the guy did a mistake that i gave him the money and literally ran! i really do mean it!
Thank you for sharing Melanie, this was very helpful... is it ok to leave your iron on for so long while cutting squares as I have a lot of creases in some of my scraps before I cut them x
HI Melanie, I was wondering if you could do a crochet tutorial on how to chrochet a blanket with a certain picture crocheted into it . Like if you agree
