Brain Vlog 57. You're used to hear the term Green Space, right. It's the trees, the parks, etc we find in our cities. But did you know, there is also something as Blue Space, and it is as beneficial to our brain. That's what we cover in this episode of the Brain Vlog.
WHO I AM
Hi, my name is Gregory Caremans. I’m the founder of the award-winning Brain Academy. I’m the former director of the Institute of Neurocognitivism (Belgium), and as such I specialised in the Neurocognitive and Behavioral Approach (NBA). I’ve studied psychology and have a Master in Communication.

Love living near the sea ~ just looking out the window always calms me down, let alone going to walk by/in it, swim etc. I've found that for me there's a zone of most peace ~ living right next to the sea can be disturbing when it's stormy, so we're set a way back and up ~ feels great.... full of appreciation!

I felt like I conquered the day when going to the beach before work. Nothing got me down that day.

I like to often look up at blue skies and the expanse of the heavens, also at night looking at the stars. I find that calming too. I wonder if this could qualify as blue space?

Absolutely my GO TO! I grew up with a pool in the backyard. I told my husband it was a non-negotiable when looking for a house. Now I'm considering a move to Florida, or south Georgia (USA), to get the sunshine, palm trees, and nearer to the ocean! My exercise during the summer is a swim (and float) around 8 or 9am -- so tranquil, especially with beautiful blue skies overhead.

I feel more happiness and excitement from life in general after visiting the beach of Pacific Ocean rather than Red Trees forest with a running creek of a spring water, so definitely sea or ocean are more powerful for me.

I live in a city. So I keep a small bowl of water with a few floating flowers . It helps:)

I have the same effect from forests and mountains. Possibly the environment we grow up in has the calming effect on us Gregory?

Forests and mountains work for me as well. I'm totally fascinated by mountains. No, it's just nature, in general, which has a soothing impact on us. But of course, we all have our sweet spots... :)

Would it work to be by a lake or river too or does it need to be the sea?

Yes, definitely. Blue space is everything water related. Lakes and rivers are perfect. Even canals and waterways inside a city do the trick

@@BrainAcademy1 thank you! I love going out in my yard among the trees to hangout & listen to the birds...I’ve been so grateful this past year to have this outlet! I absolutely feel better after time outside...maybe time to add a pond for blue space too💙
