I've been a fan of the Blue Zones project for years - love that it has branched into bringing the study into practical application - and that the results are Heather health and happiness!
The lonely part hit me hard,..not because I’m lonely lol. But my great aunt lost her husband about 3 years ago and because he was all she had left , she was very lonely and exactly one year later the same day her husband passed, she did as well...to hear that loneliness does kill just reminded me of her. Crazy.
No one should allow their spouse be everything in their life. It's great to have a good marriage, but develop interests in other people & other experiences as well.
I noticed the blue zones are situated on a similar latitude which affords them a better climate with plenty of sunshine, which I presume would help them to live longer.
Very good observation: vitamin D3 is far more important than people realize (in fact, the list of roles this vitamin have is still open) and that people walk a lot, what means that they take a lot of sunlight and so make and have a lot of vitamin D3. Very interesting.
sardenia for ex is gorgeous with crystal clear ocean, no pollution, underpopulated, Mediterranean climate all yr round, mountainous region where hiking is incredible...google it to see the splendid beaches, golf courses, its no wonder the sardenians are not stressed..eat well, and get plenty of sunshine. ..Canada and the northern states have none of that.. :( ..i envy those blue zones..
I love this video. However, being sort of house bound, I'm lucky to have my son and two granddaughters living with me. My question would be to how to create a Blue Zone starting with my home. When the tag line said "Personal Blue Zone" I thought that's what this video would be (though I certainly understand the need for a whole community to do this).
The Buettner family gatherings must be hilarious, as Nick’s quick wit and humorous nature quite entertaining. I’m still snickering about the machete, as I was raised in a small-farming community on Rural Route #1 in MN and my dad actually had us kids use machetes around the buildings, trees, and house to catch the weeds…. 8 mini weed eaters (children). 😂 Love Blue Zones, as Nick’s conversational details cue me back to the yesteryear experiences that I enjoyed in my youth, which I’ve sustained as my foundational instruct for my Life choices today. A lifestyle of daily health and wellness choices is simply…. wonderful! 🙂💕
He didn't mention that the Seventh Day Adventists (the Loma Linda Blue Zone) are taught by their religion to eat a vegetarian or vegan diet. The slide that showed "the Blue Zone Diet" showed a typical diet of all the Blue Zones, but one Blue Zone cuts out meat and/ or animal products. The other Blue Zones eat meat as a small percent of their diet, which he did mention.
@Jim Forbes The odd exception, like yours, does not change the fact that SDA religion promotes a vegetarian diet, or that the vast majority are. No one claimed that all SDA's were vegetarian.
Documental dominion. Es triste que se financien esas atrocidades sin necesidad. Hay muchos vegetarianos en Loma Linda, he subido testimonios de vegetarianos centenarios en mi canal

When he speaks of Africa: hiv and malnutrition.. That’s rude and not reflecting reality.. Africa is quite a happy and healthy place to live.. Full of organic, whole, un processed and cheap foods
@@sourcescience You are so rude telling others to shut up. Africa is huge, it definitely deserves more than association with hiv and malnutrition only. Your cluelessness about the world around you simply reflects the inadequacy of American formal education.
Africa is huge and if you did a little extra research, you would see the major crisis of malnutrition, infectious disease, lack of clean water and other issues face the majority of the country. Check out the WHO sustainability goals and many of them focus on issues that exist in Africa.
@@keeganbrynn I'm giving you the benefit of that doubt that you know this... but Africa isn't a country. It's a continent and there are many separate African countries.

The pie chart he displayed at the 10:36 mark is drastically inaccurate, 63% of America’s calories come from refined and processed foods (e.g. soft drinks, packaged snacks like potato chips, packaged desserts, etc.) 25% of America’s calories come from animal-based foods 12% of America’s calories come from plant-based foods Thus Americans eat a diet of 75% plants foods (albeit highly refined plant foods), This guy should know better and I feel he is deliberately spreading misinformation, please check out these statistics on your own
Well said. I'm tired of Blue Zones myths and half truths. There ARE amazing achievements but even some of the governments (Okinawa and Sardinia) doubt the figures for centenarians.
Blue Zones LLC (yes, its a commercial entity) is now owned by Seventh Day Adventist church so be very wary of anything they say. Its impossible to discuss nutrition with folks who want us all to follow a garden of eden vegan diet
