No, this is not a hip bump sweep. It’s different. It looks kinda the same, but it’s still different. He is staying in closed guard. He is not crunching forward. He is timing the pull of his opponent’s reaction to his sleeve pull with a pushing of his arm into his torso into his hips into his opponent. A hip bump has your weight and body more towards the direction of where you are trying to put your opponent - like with osoto gari. With this one, your body is pushing into your opponent and your opponent’s stays in front of yours - like with a knee tap double leg, or a ko uchi gari.
I got hit with it the other day. I couldn't believe i got swept with it then got mounted.....LOL after that he got a beaten but he did get 6 points..... Its my move now.....GREAT TECHNIQUE. Also works for fighting by controlling an arm limited punches available.
@@billparkinson9431 agreed. It’s a hip bump sweep. Slightly different setup by pulling the sleeve...maybe? I was taught to pull down on the head so that when the oppo pulls back to the opposite side you hip bump. Identical concept.
It's similar to the old classic hip bump sweep, but it's the setup that makes it different. Plus, with this one, you can keep your legs locked around your opponent the whole time.
Roger Gracie & Bernardo Faria used the same 5 basic moves to become world champions. It's not about how fancy your moves are but your mastery of them. I'll take Roger's cross choke 101 skills any day of the week over a RU-vidr white belt's flying Berimbolo.
