Here is how you can add muntins or other designs to you existing windows with a simple inexpensive technique I.e. $2. This is the final video on the art studio project for my daughter. Now it's up to her to decorate and create. While recording this I notice an Un-identified Flying Object!!!! Is that a UFO sighting!!!.

I cannot thank you enough! I've racked my brain trying to come up with a way to do faux leaded mullion windows. I was way over-complicating the process. Everything from tiny pieces of wood to clay. I cannot wait to try this! Thank you, again!

Sooooo smart! I have been thinking of actually making mullions (that's what I call them) out of oak pieces I have in my shop and using a router then gluing them over my front door window but that is a bit time consuming and complicated. This is so clever and simple. And for my purposes, anyone walking by on the sidewalk looking at my front door will never know the difference. Awesome hack!

Thanks, Debbie, glad you like them. A couple of points, Once the paint, is full curred and the enamel is hard, you can clean the windows they hold up well to regular cleaning, plus, you can easily remove them with a razor blade scraper if you ever tire of them. Thanks for watching and commenting, it much appreciated. If your interested check out some of my other projects, I hope you will consider subscribing. If you were to seal the edges of the tape with the thinnest line of caulk the lines would be razor sharp. It looks really good when that is done.

High Sean. That's an interesting idea and something to try if I ever do this again. The main reason I did this was just to see how it would look and also save ~$200 for matching windows for my daughter's art room in the pole barn. I'm off to a slow start this Spring but I have a full plate of projects in the works, so stay tuned if you're interested. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it. P.s. Hi Heidi. I absolutly assure you it will be easy to remove. Use a single-sided razor blade to scrape it off; you can find a scraper at any hardware, big-box store, or Amazon; here is a link amzn.to/3lP8p7L or search for "Razor Blade Scraper Tool". As for durability, my daughter's studio's windows still look as good as the day I did it. Thanks for watching, have fun with your project.

@SouthernEngineering

I just use standard window cleaner and gently wipe along the paint lines. I let the enamel paint harden for many months before I cleaned the windows, between the time and the heat of the sun they are very hard.

@happyjacky52
@happyjacky52 5 лет назад
Is that some sort of special paint that is supposed to bond to glass? No primer? Respectfully, I do not think it is a good idea to take a utility knife to glass like that. Especially if you ever wanted to remove the paint and go back to the full view look. Allowing for even the minimum use of pressure there would most likely be a scratch. As a home builder for 35 years I am reluctant to even use a flat razor to remove junk from windows. I use window cleaner w/ the razor.
@SouthernEngineering
@SouthernEngineering 5 лет назад
Hi John. No I just cleaned the glass with alcohol and used Rust-Oleum flat white sign paint, it is well bound to the glass but can be removed if you wish. Yeah, I commented that you should use very light pressure or you will scratch the glass also I made note that this was for a pole barn and I would not recommend it for your home. My reasoning was simple, I wanted to maintain a continuity of the look of muntins from the other windows without the extra expense. The windows that came with muntins I picked up at Habitat for $25 ea. unfortunately I could only get the two, I had to buy these `full look' new, .. My daughter is supper happy with her studio. Thanks for watching.. P.s. I'm remodeling my pole barn to be a working studio for my growing YT channel, while I'm doing the same work that I built the barn for I just want it to be more presentable for my video's, stay tuned if your interested. You can also follow along on Instagram under 'southernengineering' I will be post photo's and stuff as my projects run their course...
@pandapanda8354

John Helfrich I followed this exactly. When we switched to our Christmas window scenes, I scraped the muntins off with a single edge razor blade just like he showed. Literally no scratches on the glass at all. You need a very gentle touch and a very sharp blade. You can wash the windows multiple times and the paint does NOT come off. The RUSTOLEUM brand boasts that it has superior bonding and I have found that to be the case with their formulation. I don’t think I would trust any other brand to adhere and remove as perfectly. We use the same brand to paint Christmas scenes in faux stained glass. No problems!
