New homeowners like me, you may have the question of if you need a dehumidifier in your basement. Prior to owning a house, I was unfamiliar with what they even were. Hope this helps you guys out!
Depends on location. There is a magical place that never rains, has no lakes, oceans , or rivers, yet has a supposed unlimited deep underground augifer and we call it western kansas. Seriously there is zero need for a basement sump pump out there
I recently bought a house in central NJ and the dehumidifier keeps on running all the time as advised by the previous owner. I am wondering is that really required as mine is not able to auto detect and stop on its own?
It wouldn’t hurt for it to run all the time. I typically turn mine off from December to March just because it isn’t as humid in the basement during those months where I live. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to leave it running all year though, it’ll keep to humidity and mold out of your basement for sure 👍
It will take the moisture out of the air making it feel less sticky/damp but won’t do much for making it cooler or less stuffy. Most of them have a built in fan so that will help with air flow though!
Depends on where you live. I am in the Midwest where we have hot humid summers and sun zero winters. I run it from may-September and always have it on but put it away for the winter months. Most of the new ones have sensors where they will shut off by themselves if the humidity level is below a certain level so I keep mine plugged in and empty the water container as needed when full
That’s a good question. I would say the whole house. takes the humidity out of the air and doesn’t let it raise into the upper floors. Also stops mold so no contaminated air will be circulating from the basement to the living areas
