Oh man, that exactly what I did lol! Ran to my local Walmart and picked up a kiwi horse brush. Picked up some Thursday captains in tobacco about 3 weeks ago. New favorite go to boot! I see some red wing iron rangers in my future too. Loving the channel, buddy! Lots of great information for starting my own boot journey. Keep it up!

Still think Kiwi is a good little brush, maybe keep it around for that travel kit or brush at the office? Love my Tobacco Captains. Appreciate you watching the channel, these videos are fun to make, yet hard work to I'm thrilled to have people enjoy!

You can clean your brush by soaking the tips in warm water and dishwashing soap and then rubbing it on a cloth dish rag. It should remove about 80 percent of the discoloration.

That's a great tip! Hope other see that as well, I'll have to give that a go. Appreciate you watching.

What a great video! Shoe brushes are so cool. I’ve been using two 50 year old horse hairs inherited from Pop Pop.One dark, and the other lite. I’ve had no problem with using brown , black and burgundy on the same brush. And never wash them. They get better with age. Comb thru them to clean them if you must.

Hey that is awesome! We started everything on Praying with Charles and transitioned over to @goonovrlnd. Thank you for the encouragement. We got to go to some amazing places and meet some great people over on Praying with Charles. God has been doing some amazing stuff on GO ON and that is where the majority of our energy goes these days. What boots are you rocking??

@@GentlemansJourney Very cool! I'll check out @goonovrlnd as well. I'll be praying for His will to be done in your ministries. My channel is actually a shoe/boot cleaning tutorial channel, mainly for leather. I just started. However, I own some Thursday boots, Vintage Dr. Martens, and Allen Edmonds boots as well.

Great video and nice to see someone stress the importance of a good horse hair brush. I have a Wellington Extra Large Horsehair Brush, one of the best purchases I made. Really dense, very little shedding and none after a lot of use, and brushing time is cut down immensely. No, it is not cheap but bar none when you look at over a lifetime of use I am glad I purchased it.

@@GentlemansJourney I'm glad you knew where I was talking about and yeah thanks for the videos. I have a co-worker I am sending your way that is just getting into good boots. For ease of maintenance and product explanations I like the job you have done and it would have saved me a lot of trial and error in the past! He is thinking Grant Stone over Red Wing because he prefers a dress boot. A young kid doing college and he would love a pair of Nick's but he can't get around his mind in price. Getting the project car up and running is the priority.

How about a basic video on how exactly to brush the boots?... most videos on brushes, boot maintenance dont even show that. If they do its very minimal. Thanks

@@GentlemansJourneycan you reccomend other brands that you swear by? I need a good horse hair brush for my shoes and another brush, doesn't necessarily have to be horse hair but a great brush for dusting off flour from wooden work bench. I'm a baker you see. Gentleman's baker if you will 😅. But yea.

Hey! How long after applying leather conditioner to my boots should i start brushing them? Do i first remove the excess conditioner after letting it sink in for 10 minutes with a microfiber cloth and then start brushing? Or should i start buffing with the excess on and then wipe it all off? Subscribed! Love your insight
@GentlemansJourney
@GentlemansJourney Год назад
Slightly varies by the conditioner. If it is heavy with wax then you can actually help work the wax into the leather by brushing or with a microfiber cloth because the friction will cause heat and that will then push the wax deeper into the fibers. Oil is often better at penetrating that wax but a buff right after application is good as well. No need to wait in my estimation. Depending on the conditioner I'll apply it with my hands or with a cloth if it is harsh. Overall, I think the buffing helps during the process to even out the conditioner and help with penetration. They key is to make sure you don't cross contaminate your brush colors.

Just bought some iron rangers 8085s. How long would you go just using the brush? I've bought some bick 4, not gonna condition for a few months. When would the oils in the boot start to stop coming to the surface and how can you tell? Great channel!
@GentlemansJourney
@GentlemansJourney Год назад
It's almost like a chalky look or dry like dry skin. I say that you grow an understanding of your leather with time. You'll know when you over do it and when they are thirsty after a bit. I'd say with causal office wear 3 months could go just fine. Work wear and it could be a couple weeks. If you get them dirty and have to clean them they will need conditioner right away after they dry from cleaning. The boots can get some waterproofing spray on them right when they are new if you plan on getting into some weather situations. Cheers and thanks for watching.
