Do You Remember Higbee's Department Store? Cleveland Ohio 

I grew up in the Cleveland area in the 1950s & 1960s. Many wonderful memories of Higbee's and Halle's and the other stores downtown. My Grandma worked at Higbee's and Mom would take my brother & me to meet her for lunch at The Silver Grille. Kid's lunches served in little stoves with little dishes & such. After college I worked at Halle's as a Buyer for the Fabric and Art Needlework Departments. Loved that job but left right before Halle's closed to move to San Diego for the weather. Still great memories of those times in downtown Cleveland. Thanks for the video.

I worked at Higbee’s for a short time. They bought out Halle’s, took over the Summit Mall location in Akron and opened a store in Rolling Acres (which pushed out Montgomery Wards to bring the store in). The store never worked and the whole mall went under.

Who ever built and designed the Downtown flagship store back in the late 1920s was genius. Built on a public square in what was once a bustling building, it must have done well in the neighborhood. It is attached to a 52 story skyscraper, which is in (attached) to the old Union Terminal Train Station. Imagine how many customers shopped there while passing through! And down the main isle of the store were rows of these massive crystal chandeliers that had to cost big bucks even 90-100 years ago. I think they saved them in the Casino remodeling too. Although it was DILLARDS by the time I first saw this store, there were (and still are) engraved brass plaque's at the entranceways that say HIGBEE'S.

Wait I thought this was just the department store from that song from the Christmas Story musical... and the movie.... I didn't know it existed for real! Haha. Ty for this!

One of my foster mothers used to take me to Higbee's on Saturdays for shopping, we would ride the rapid transit down town and be down below the stores. A man in a uniform in the elevator would work the controls and call out the items available for purchase on each floor. I never made it to the Silver Grill, but there was a deli type of kiosk in the store, I loved looking out the windows, I believe that was were you found Mr. Jinglings at Christmas time.

There are much more scarier Higbees Commercials in thhe early 1970s. They flash so quick.

I do remember them from old dead mall videos and people stating of Higbee's being an og anchor. Sad they were stupidly rebranded. Great video!
