Are the Flames finally in a rebuild stage? Do you think Calgary will look to move Nazem Kadri? What can Flames fans expect next season? TSN Calgary Bureau Chief Salim Valji joins Jay Onrait to discuss.
@jonah.donohue yeah, but Tampa was ready to move on. It was clear even from the season before. I'm not saying that at some point, kadri may get traded. I just meant that at least this season, he is not going anywhere as far as what Conroy said
Honestly I could see a team that needs a 2c try and get him, obviously Calgary would need to probably retain 50%, and that’s a lot to pay for 5 years is the only problem, Conroy may be like fk that lol, but I could see Boston, avs, Carolina, any of those east contenders, hell maybe even a team like Utah, if they surprise the league, or one of those other west teams is going all in and wanna buy no matter what cap gymnastics they need to do. I could see Crosby leaving too and drai so if that’s a possibility no team is going to risk cap
7 million a year and he generates offensive threats himself without the need of an all-world player to bump up his stats? Kadri got 75 points last season on an offensively dreadful team and competes better than most players. Not only this but he can shut down the opposing unit's stars and plays a strong D game. Hardly a "big" contract.
As a flames fan, I hope not. He had good chemistry with Zary & Popsicle, need vets to mentor the young guns. At least for a few years to lessen the burden of moving that contract
He is a guy who would maintain a winning culture during a rebuild, prevent the flames from turning into a forever rebuild team like buffalo or the oilers (oilers were dog garbage for a good 25 years don’t forget that)
Kadri is a "center' and the 'center' position is one of the most important positions because you have to play at both ends of the ice. The 'center' position is tough to fill and tough to play. 7 million is a bargain for that position and he has been in the league since he was 18 years old meaning he has lots of experience and was well coached. Center position on a line should be paid the most. Naz is a mentor and having the experience is valuable and will help the young prospects with confidence and progression. He has had Randy Carlyle, Ron Wilson, Mike Babcock, Dave Tippet, Peter Deboer, Dave Hunter as coaches. The guy is "well coached' understands the game and the position. Brings value and great vibes. Do your research around the league and compare the "center" position salary with the others and their productivities. You will find the answer to the question. That is Do you think Flames will move Nazem Kadri?
As long as Kadri keeps his edge , plays disciplined and spikes his GAF meter he can stay. He needs to be more consistent. This isnt a retirement home and theres no excuse for tsking gsmes off!!!
Now with Markstrom gone, mainstream media has to harp on another storyline. Kadri is leaving? Oh no, another player not staying in their current Canadian market. Clutch your pearls people. The drama. The drama.
Hopefully detroit can work a trade, copp for Kadri. Wouldn't mind giving a first and a third for him if they retain enough for him to only make 5 off of detroit.
Hope the Flames don't trade all their good players away when they get good that's what they do all the time when they get good they always trade away their Stars
What a godsend it would be, if Calgary was to take Edmonton's worst contract, Nurse. Overpaid by 6 million a year, and a great way to get to the cap floor!!
Bottom line they need to meet the cap floor and they need Kadri to make it. I could see Coleman and Andersson being traded. But Huberdeau, Backlund and Kadri are needed for the cap floor
I would hate to see the Flames finish with the 11th overall pick. We'd end up with Florida's pick and likely be picking in the mid 20's. But it would be catastrophic to see Florida win the lottery and the Flames end up with a top 5 pick. The Flames would surrender that pick to Montreal and become the laughing stock of the NHL
The Flames don't need to trade Kadri. They have the cap room to carry him. They can see if he keeps up the pace 3:40 from last season and if need be trade him at the deadline if he wants to. Kadri gets the final say anyway so it's up to him mostly.
