I've made considerably fewer items than you (and started doing so not least thanks to your videos), but I get where you're coming from. It's not a 'yay I'm brilliant' feeling, but a subtle smile knowing you've solved a problem by your own hand. And that is a great feeling in its own right. Also, no, Bobbin isn't the star... OK he is... All the best etc., Pete.

I had to laugh at your mention of the "fanny pack". I was at an 🐎 endurance race one time as a standby farrier. At one of the checkpoints was a fellow from Australia I was visiting with. As we watched some of the riders (mostly female) leave, he leaned over and and in a hushed tone asked me, what's a fanny pack? We got a good laugh out of it.

The new generation now call these bags “belt bags”, or “sling packs” and they are popular again!

We've been missing Bobbin, thanks for sharing some of his Majesty.

It’s great to make your own gear! You can make quality stuff that lasts forever. I end up sewing a lot of bags for my camping gear for a couple of reasons: the sacks that manufacturers give you like say my collapsible walking sticks are a cheap afterthought that fall apart, secondly they make sleeping bag sacks and tent sacks so you can never get the the product back in once it’s taken out. I recently made a vinyl zippered bag for my Colman stove.

More Bobbin! Like the variety of stuff you've made, and used, while I actually use about 3 or 4 things I've made, and have most of it either given away as gifts of one form or another, or stuff I was paid to make like multiple console covers for boats. I don't exactly make money on the stuff I get paid to do, but it forces me to sit down, plan, draw, pattern, cut, sew, curse, rip a couple seams, re-sew, fit, and, finally, hand in the bill for time and materials. My own stuff is stuff sacks, lots of miscellaneous stuff in heavy waxed canvas (generously gifted 30 or 40 yards (60 inch width) by a manufacturer here) like outer, roll-top bags to protect roll-top gear bags from abrasion. As always it was an engaging and worthwhile video. Thanks, YVR

Thanks. I found some surplus fabric used in making military cold weather clothes and I ended up making a couple of camping pillows that have removable pillow cases.

I must have made several dozen items for MYOG use. I'm a competitive pistol shooter so ammo bags, magazine bags, pistol bags, and many duffels have come off of the Sailrite. I recently made a set of luggage for myself. The set includes a large duffel, two mid-sized duffels, a Dopp kit and small hand-carry-sized bag. All are canvas with waxed canvas bottoms. In addition, there's a tool roll and a shop apron (one for me and another for a friend). Whew! I'm exhausted. Your videos have inspired me from my shaky beginnings in late 2020 to the point where I can crank out things that I feel comfortable giving away with the sense that they will last and have a 'finished' quality. Thanks so much for your content.

I find myself replacing camp chair fabric every couple of years, also have a trip next week and found the bags that came with a couple of small fold up leg/roll up top tables had disintegrated so today I made new ones using my Sailrite LSZ out. Made new seat covers for the truck for messy camping. Find myself making gear bags for computer, etc cables, adapters for traveling as well. Having watched one of your video I made the one shoulder sling backpack(1/2 backpack?). Nicer for long walks than the full backpack .

Your videos were some of the ones I watched when I was teaching myself how to sew. I have made my Tarp, Top quilt, Hammock, Bottom Quilt, Pack Cover/Ground Cloth, Stuff Sacks and Bug Net. Also heavily modified my backpack. Made my daughter a hammock and top/bottom quilt "pod"

I've made stuff sacks, a camping pillow, quilt, bag for my trangia cooker, picnic blanket, footprint for a tent, windproof jacket, a terrible rucksack that went wrong, utensil roll, wash bag and cool bags and stuff sacks for friends. I'm not sure I'm not the best MYOGer, but it's nice to design and make something you can get practical use out of outdoors. Cheers for you hard work sewing and making videos. Belly rubs to Bobbin, he's a cutie.

Im interested in hammocks. Does yours have a mozzie net built in? I think you're somewhere you'd make use of one, if it doesn't, how do you set up to be protected from bugs n stuff? I was going to buy a fairly expensive hammock but wonder if i should make one. Im quite limited in the range of fabrics available where i am (south western Australia) so a lot of projects go to "on the list" and often don't get done for lack of materials

Hi! So sorry for taking so long to reply! Yes, my hammock has an integrated, zip-up mozzie net. They will still get me through the hammock itself sometimes - I use a 3/4 length under quilt so they always manage to find a place where my body is pressed against the hammock and not protected by the quilt lol. But the net is very helpful (also makes me feel better that random spiders and other creatures are less likely to join me in the hammock). www.hammockforums.net/forum/content.php The Hammock Forums has a great DIY section if you're thinking of making one. The hammock itself is super easy, and after I made my hammock I just hung it (with an integrated ridgeline also) and draped the mesh over, clipped it in place where I like and took it down and sewed it. (I clipped the zipper to the hammock first, I obviously can't explain in great detain here but that's the general idea.) It's among my most satisfying DIY projects to this day, and I didn't even do a great job on it. A LONG time ago I made a pretty terrible video about my hammock system, if you're not prone to motion sickness, you can check it out here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--lA6-JvMR6U.html And I wish I could make a trip to bring you some materials 😁

Oh my giddy aunt. Im about to strap in and dive head first in to the diy hammock forum. What an exciting way to start the day. Im fizzy with joy!! Thanks again fella. Love the videos. Always informative, always amusing, always clear and concise. Much appreciated. Suggestions/requests would be details of out of the ordinary stitching, straps, zips, working out pocket design/type, a list of useful fabrics and alternative names they may be known by, touches to go from obviously home made to more professional looking. Hmm. I now think you may have covered these in previous videos so im going back over a few to check. Brain woozy with the hammock forum, apologies for the rambling. Ill be back....
