I went out to the range after watching a few of your videos and can honestly say I have never hit the ball so well before. The explanations are simple and make complete sense, not like other guys who seem to teach too technically. Keep up the good work!
I am just wondering, the ten guys or galls that gave this vlog a thumbs down... sure they are on the wrong meds or they skipped taking them... maybe they need meds and don't know it... I don't know. In any case, Danny great advice and many thanks for your advice and clear and simple way of presenting it.
I am working on this. My hips stall in the through swing which let's my arms take over and flip at the ball. I can rehearse the swing and it looks great hips open, side bend etc...put the ball there and it changes back to hips stalling - is that a normal trend Danny?
It is indeed, there can be a number of causes for this. Sometimes it can be simply down to your desire to hit the ball properly you stall at impact. Sometimes you are out of position on the way down and your body has to stall in order to give time for the club to find its way back to the ball
@Danny Maude thanks for the reply, I tried the one arm (trail arm) swings and the position at impact is better and my hips stay back - put the other hand on the club and hips leak towards the ball and no rotation. Should I just keep doing the one arm drill over and over?
Danny, feedback on drills I get drills 1 &3. Drill 2 on the “stretch” I have a problem with my timing: @ the top of the backswing I try to initiate the body separation, with my lower left side but I appear to launch it too quickly. When or what is the “trigger” to start the turn? If I “forget about the stretch” it seems to be a smoother transition. Thanks again though without doubt I’ve gained yards with your tips on the swing. Really starting to enjoy striking the ball👍
michael kirkbright sorry to be so bold; but I thought I might eject my thoughts into your dilemma as I too had years of trying to figure out the difficulty of the upper body simultaneously going back as the lower body goes forward. For example: As I consciously stepped down on my lead foot my club would drop down in response and there was no way I could continue my back swing. Sounds familiar? Well sir I recently discovered that the secret, correct and easy way of doing this is contained in the trail elbow and its activation throughout my entire swing. This can be seen in every professional classic players swing when we know where to look. My personal favorite: Ben Hogan As you are just about to finish your backswing inch up with your trail elbow just a bit and it will then create just enough of elastin tension in between your upper and lower body; forcing your lower body to respond and turn at the exact same time you inch up with your trail elbow. This one swing thought of inching my trail elbow and then consciously keeping it activated throughout my downswing at age 72 has given me a new love for the game. I hope it helps you as well. Cheers
It is so true and simple looking when you explain it like this. In practice swings it appears to work but as soon as I put a ball in the way I revert back to pulling the club down too quickly therefore losing distance. Will have to keep trying this with and without a club to try and build muscle memory so as when I put the ball down, it won't change how I swing. Cheers Danny and keep up your fantastic work. ⛳ 🏌
Nice one again Danny, always look forward to your Saturday video’s. Great to see how many subscribers you have attracted to your site. Well deserved, still No. 1 for me.
mick19421 always appreciate your support Mick, as someone who has been one of my early subscribers have you any thoughts on what you would like to see going forward?
Working on this, my current swing is very close and compact cause accuracy is an issue. I still hit 9 130-150 yards, but need more fluidity and control. You and Bazelgette (probably butchered his name) both have the same routine, gonna give it a go!
I dont swing a club like this anymore to much stress on my body i started to not enjoy golf that much as I was in pain playing finding myself wanting to go home after 12 holes or so dont have the flexibility anymore my knees and back just cant take it I found the easy swing and havent looked back to much stress on the body using this modern day golf swing and I'm hitting the ball just as far using the easy swing I personally think I'm more accurate aswell people should find what's comfortable for them not all try to swing the club like pre programmed robots messing the back and other body parts up in the process if your young and or have good flexability great but in time it will tell just look at the amount of surgeries modern day golfers or the pros have to endure back problems joint and neck issues I can play a full 18 again go home feeling fine and the most important part I'm actully ENJOYING GOLF again..
For an old fart like myself on my day I can put the ball out there a long way with pure strikes. But I lack consistency, & it frustrates the s..t out of me. My bad shots are usually fat & off target. After watching this video & trying some swings in the backyard I think you have nailed my problem area of too many times bringing the butt end of the club down hard. The "scenic route" practice swings feel oh so nice, can't wait to hit the course tomorrow :-)
@@DanielMaude Yes I think I was bringing the club down too quickly resulting in a casting swing causing a myriad of awful shots. The frustrating thing was that in between those horrible shots I was hitting some awesome ones. If golf was over 12 holes I would be teaching on youtube like you :-) What I also think I was doing without knowing was too much body movement & not staying centered, very much the basis of your last video. During my practice yesterday I concentrated on the centerline but still managing a full swing that in the end was more effortless, the shots were still out there in length, & best of all, consistent. Golf on the course this Wednesday will be the test. Thanks for the video's Danny :-)
This tip should be shared by everyone, not just friends. Every aspect of these drills is pure gold. You remind me of a maths (math in US) professor I had who made maths seem easy, great teaching method!
Danny, I so appreciate your logical approach. I was trying so hard to play well and did so much guiding. When I played loose with a very loose grip I really began to play better. Thank you!
Great Moves, Danny!...To the Quik..."Balance"...The [First Move] establishes your [Balance]!...The [First Move]..."to establish Balance"... is to [Let the Left Forefinger] establish your [Interlock Grip]. To the Point: The [Left Forefinger] is the [First Move] to make to establish your [Grip], "Interlock"! Any other Move & you're going to be off balance. Note: "Without a Grip there is no Swing"! Use the (Palm Pad below the Forefinger as a Guide)! Please remember: The [Little Finger] closes the Grip. The [Little Finger] is always connected to the [Forefinger] & its [Thumb]! Why? (a) [LH] Stability & Distance! (b) [RH] Stability & Distance. Great job, Danny.
@@DanielMaude Great way to build the [ABs, Obliques & Pecs]! [Overtlap Grip]: [Left Forefinger] is entirely on the Club. Why? Kenesis! Use the [Forefinger Palm Pad as a Guide] for great [Feel & Stability] & [Club Head Connection].
Hi Danny. I get confused by this because the final drill seems to contradict what is said in the catapult method. How do the two ideas exist simultaneously in the golf swing, or is one for driver and the other for irons? I have gone from low single figures to hitting the ball sideways and the main reason seems to be that my head is full of clutter about what I am trying to do in the golf swing. With the catapult method you seem to be saying I should have the feeling of throwing away the angle early, but here it seems I should be leaving the club head at the top and keeping the angle. Am I misinterpreting it? Thanks Danny.
Thanks for the feedback Jeremy, putting all angles aside try to move away from the intellectual understanding for a moment and ask your self if you were throwing a ball how and when do you feel you catapult the arm?
@@DanielMaude Hi Danny...you have nailed it on the head immediately! My problem has become far too much thought and not enough natural action. One of the things that attracted me to the way you teach is that you are not trying to give me a physics lesson, but rather getting me to trust the natural ability we all have as human beings. My biggest aim at the moment is to declutter my mind of all the ideas that are getting in the way of swinging a golf club in a naturally athletic motion. Thanks!
Love tip #3. Every time I begin fading my driver (unintentionally), I remind myself to slow down my transition (from backswing into starting the downswing). Amazing results! Slower that transition = more power and MUCH straighter drives! Great video!
I was given to understand that you transfer weight to your back foot during the back swing and then back to the front foot as you start the downswing. You seem to be saying the transfer to front foot happens as final part of the backswing?
Great instruction Danny. Another cracking video, all 3 tips worked well today on the driving range. Will see what happens on the course tomorrow. Are you thinking about running any golf schools in 2020 in UK? Many thanks.
Andrew Lewis thanks for the comment Andrew, I’m looking at running a couple of golf schools in 2020...if you would like to be informed when I release the dates head on over to dannymaude.com and sign up to my weekly newsletter. All the best Danny
People that started golfing in the 90s like myself didn’t have all this information… if you began golfing recently , you have no idea how lucky you are to get all this advice for free
The ball throwing technique is one of the best “feels” to understand. Too many people have been taught to “ring the bell” which can actually cause casting if you don’t rotate.
Hi Danny, I liked tip 3 the hold and whip, also the mention of the feel. When I get the right feel, it really all comes together. Do I get the right feel much?.....lol.....not much, but I have experienced it before. Anyhow, nice weather you had there and wearing a sweater......lucky guy!. Take good care.
I’d like to see you do something on getting the same repeatable swing, I have good and bad days, lot of bad ones. However your recent chipping vid (letting club drop) has really improved my inconsistent chipping. I have had a bad month 10.12 and 7 blobs, through vicious slice, pushing then hooking, recalled your tip some time ago about opening stance slightly, which touch wood seems to be working, (put in a net 70 a week go in a medal) giving me a fade and a bit more consistency off the tee, which has always been a problem for me. It would be great if I could get the same shape each shot.
Great lesson (as usual), particularly about the need to get that separation (#2). But there's got to be a different and better way to describe how to get that club into the slot (#3). The concept as described is perfect, but how to get there? Personally, I think you could spend an entire lesson just on separation.
Timothy W very true Timothy, I truly believe though that it can be achieved much more naturally, it’s only golfers tendency to hit at the ball as opposed to through it that stops them transitioning correctly
Timothy W At least for me, I find i get the club in slot position without thinking about it, or trying. Point #3 will result in the desired slot position as long as #2 happens first.
@@DanielMaude Thank you for the lessons... my buddy gave me your link as I am getting on and thought it may help... he will regret when I start to beat him... have seen these tips before but not explained so well
Thanks Danny, at what point does the right hand get involved in this process? Presuming it does that is... Great instruction quality, pleased you're not trying to totally remodel peoples swing like a lot of instructors do.
Hi Danny. Another get video. Lightening up the right hand grip and trying to pull the handle through to the target horizontalally rather than down towards the ground seems to help. Do you agree? Thanks. Ralph G.
Ralph G the way to maximum centrifugal force is to to move the bit away from your head at the top of your backswing as opposed to quickly down towards the ball...this keeps the energy stored up as long as possible
Thank you for another great video. I've always thought that 'feel' is a wonderful part of the golf swing and the game. You present that to us beautifully Danny. Thank you.
This really helps in understanding the dynamics of a golf swing. But how does it work for those of us that are really right handed but play golf left handed (or the other way round)? My golf swing is essentially a backhand shot. Sounds silly, but I know several people that do this.
Hi Danny, drill 2 & 3 has changed my swing. Starting my downswing with my left knee has changed my shots from slice and left to rights to now being able to hit super straight shots. Even with my 5i which I previously could not hit! Took it onto the course yesterday and for the first time I broke 90! Shot an 89 which I’ve never done before. Thank you so much!
Great instruction! On your third tip here, do the hands stay close to the right leg through impact? Saw one video by a different teacher where that instructor said to put a plastic bottle in right pocket and try to hit it coming through. Does this jive with your move in the third tip here? Seems like your hands are not in that close to your legs. Thank you!
Great video. Thank you. One of the things that I think is left out of most explanations like this is how important it is for the wrists to be relaxed. There can be no whipping if the wrists are not relaxed. Since the centrifugal force of the club by the nature of physics wants to come through faster, any tension in the wrist will slow that down. Also, when the swing, at the top, starts with the hands instead of the body, it often creates tension in the hands. When I want to swing harder and that often means starting with the arms, I feel the tension rise in my hands and that steals that whipping motion and thus speed. I am constantly struggling with trying to start my swing with my body. Those handsy arm swings are distance and accuracy killers. I am continually amazed at how far the ball will go when I have a relaxed swing and yet 80% of the time I swing with a lot of tension. Very frustrating.
I feel you! I just started rotating/whipping my body just recently and it's a game changer. I suffered a lot over the years hitting it fat because I would start the downswing with my arms. Now, before I even finish my backswing (let's say when my arms are parallel to the ground) I start moving laterally/rotating my body and this is crucial - YOU HAVE TO MOVE IT TOGETHER in order for it to work because if you don't and start moving one but not the other you'll end up sliding the hips (moving laterally) or coming over the top (rotating). You're probably thinking - BUT I'M ONLY SWINGING HALFWAY. No, in your mind you think you are but your body is actually still moving and therefore you are causing separation just like Danny's tip #2. Hopefully this helps!
Thanks for the great drills, I tried them on the range and really felt a difference in my swing. I gained some extra yardage but I still suffer from my 5 or 6 iron don’t go as far as my 7 😂
@@DanielMaude Great Video, On the down swing golfers should go into an anterior pelvic tilt. When pressure is applied with the feet is this automatic ?
Thomas O'Keefe it should be automatic Thomas but it depends what concept a golfer is running through their minds...if they are the type of golfer who is always trying to get the swing in the right position they will find this difficult...if they are more child like and aim to smash the ball a mile they are more likely to achieve it
Denny is one of the best, most eloquent and gifted golf instructor around! Because of his not overly "technical" and yet super constructive way of teaching, I've improved my game a lot! Thank you Denny!
I think for me tip #3 is something that can really help. But as always your videos are simple to follow and well explained. Now just to take what’s learned and get it right on the course!
Koah Kruse well I hope the videos are enough to help you along the way...if you do need any more help consider heading to dannymaude.com for an online lesson
Hello Danny vos vidéos et explications sont excellentes mais je ne comprends pas l'anglais... please mettez nous une traduction en français. .. merci mille fois..Et Vive le Golf
Always look forward to the weekly video's. It has been a pleasure learning from you sir! I started playing this wonderful game three months ago and thanks to your simple and informative teaching style folks who have been playing this game for years are impressed with the progress I've made (don't get me wrong, I have so much more to learn). Just wanted to encourage you to keep doing what you are doing; it truly is appreciated!
Andrew Zee that’s amazing Andrew and well done you on your progress...thanks for taking the time to give me some encouragement, It’s really appreciated
It's always amazed me how difficult this concept is to grasp with a static ball when it's a natural move when hitting or throwing a baseball. I struggle with proper rotation through the golf swing and this was perhaps the best explanation I've ever seen. Great job!!
Hi Danny absolutely love your videos as they are totally validating my one swing thought. However: regarding your tip number 2. I have always found that as I stepped down on my lead side my arms would drops passively by gravity and I lost considerable power with my shots as the years progressed. Therefore there was no way in heck I could have possibly continue my backswing at the same time I shifted my weight onto my lead side. Sounds familiar? On a previous video you spoke of the importance of the trail elbow use in throwing the club head. All of which I agree. However recently I also found out that if I simply inch my trail elbow a bit at the top of my swing it then creates enough tension between my upper and lower body forcing my lower body to turn at the exact same moment I inched my trail elbow to the top. Combine this with your other tips and I am now on to a great lifetime swing. Cheers and Thank you very much.
Hi Danny, welcome drills as ever. My biggest issue is that I tend to rush the downswing and try and 'hit' the ball. I've worked hard on slowing the tempo but the downside is that my downswing is consequently almost too slow. Any advice on finding that happy mix between not swinging too fast at the start of the backswing but at the same time being able to accelerate into the ball at the last minute. Great videos btw. Thanks.
Hello Danny, my wife & I retired last year & we decided to learn how to play golf. We have taken lessons. Also, we really enjoy your weekly training tips. Keep them coming the tips are very helpful. We would like to see Laure so maybe you can include Laura in a weekly training tip. Thanks again from Reinette & Ed from Long Island, New York
The first and the third drills really hit home for me Danny, I like the 'Hit it as far as you can, while staying in balance' thought using athleticism, and I really like how you explained lag in the third drill - storing energy by taking the handle on a scenic route then releasing at the last minute. That's the best explanation of lag i've heard thanks!!
Danny your 3 point explanation to get more speed & accuracy was the best lesson in describing what the body is supposed to do in the golf swing. I've been struggling for distance & speed. Your video explained how to move my body to generate speed & accuracy. I'm off to the driving range to work on these areas. Thank you.
Wonderful. Thanks, Danny. Following you since a year from Germany. My game became much more relaxed this period. I wish I could meet for a lesson personally 🖖
Another quality vid Danny , Just a simple question , I’m left footed and throw left hand ( write right handed though ) and play right handed badly , can I adapt my right handed swing to use my left sided biased strength & balance or re-invent my swing left handed ?
Danny Maude - appreciate your feedback Danny , just come back from another frustrating round ( but still love the game ) , any tips on keeping the head steady and eyes on the ball or is this just a basic self taught exercise we have to teach ourselves ?
Danny, these are great but I have 4 anchors and a few screws in my left shoulder. I lost about 10 mph with my driver swing. Any help with this. I just can't go all out without pain issues. I imagine that I need to change my swing.
@@DanielMaude Danny, For context, I had the same surgery that Andrew Luck had (if you know who he is). I cannot "throw" the club. If you think about playing frisbee, I cannot make that throwing motion. This results in me dragging the club through impact and finishing with a low "sawed off " finish. As a result I hit a lot of cuts.
As always great video Danny. With a little funny physical resemblance with Rory M... I am afraid my balls turn to the left? So will practice it on my home made one :-)
