Thanks.. This clarified a few things for me. I've used back to lay ( and lay to back) a fair bit. We have a trainer in Australia who instructs her riders to go to the front at almost any cost (Gai Waterhouse). She adopted this from her father, the great TJ Smith. If one is not greedy, her runners are excellent back to lay propositions.

Good evening Caan, for inplay trading I prefer National Hunt Racing as the markets are less volatile at the start of the race and you can try and find an easy front runner to get in and out of, I think smooth travelling favs will trade in a couple of a ticks for a quick profit. Think flat racing is not the place to really do in running back to lays, especially the shorter distance would be suicide! best regards. PS sorry this sounds a bit repetitive as you have mastered this already!!!

If you say avoid short priced horses for dobbing then shouldn't it be a good strategy to lay these selections?

Hi caan. Are you able to hedge youre back bet whilst dobbing bet? E.g you back £20 @ 5.0, lay £40 @ 2.5, can you lay 'X' amount at the same odds as the back bet?

If a favourite is held up, its price won't necessarily drift. It will only get bigger if it comes off the bridle or gets boxed in (flat races).

I had that happen today when I saw the favourite drifting before the off, and it was a horse that likes to get back in the running. Layed at 3.40 backed at 5.60. Not quite a reverse dob but profit nonetheless 👍
