Hey Will! Comments are finally active, YAYY!!! THX for running this channel. I am going to get a puppy once our house extension project is finished. I really like Dobermans based on my research but I am not sure it's wise and safe for me to get a Doberman. I grew up among German Shepherds and raised a Jack Russell terrier myself, however never had a big, working dog. I am 38, very active, working in software development, mostly from home. I do martial arts, strength training and also walk / hike a lot. I have a 6 year old who is lovely with dogs. I am confident that I can give enough attention, love and exercise to the dog but I don't know how to do mental stimulation play with them. We also wouldn't need him to be on a job, we just want a smart, active family guardian. I already started researching, reading about how to be a good owner, how to train dogs and we have been helping people out with walks and play for rescued dogs in the last 3 months. I am concerned however because we want to have a second kid after getting a pup and my wife is a bit afraid of Dobermans. (However I am sure she will love one if we raise a puppy). Are Dobermans good with kids? If I keep the basic rules (consistency, behaving as alpha ie first through the door, calm behaviour, firm but gentle correction) is it safe? I remember that my Danny (the Jack Russell) turned on me despite all this when he was 2 and I had to muscle him to the ground and keep him there till he yielded submission but this scenario would be 10x more dangerous if a Doberman decided to do that with my little one. Sorry for the long comment and thanks for doing this! :)

Can you do a top 10 low energy PROTECTION dogs? Not home guardians or watch dogs. Some people need/want an actual protection dog but don't necessarily lead the active life most protection dogs need

I’ve now owned 2 Dobermans bay bay is my 2nd and she’s a dream except on walks she pulls and barks at cats in my neighborhood. She loves my children to a fault and gets in our laps bc she’s 90 lbs but thinks she’s a 5 lb lap dog. She chews her toys horribly but only the back part of her jaw , I don’t understand why she is now 2.5 years old?
