Dobermans were bred for protection. Floppy ears is a trait humans have bred into domesticated dogs. No "dog" in the wild has floppy ears. Wolves, foxes, coyotes etc.... All have ears that stand up. This is a correction and nothing cruel about it. Cruel - cut off their nuts.
Most animals (cats and dogs) get some kind of cancer from being uncut. Neutering a PET (which is Human bred and NOT WILD) saves lives! Likewise back in the 1800s when Dobermans were made, having cropped ears may have saved them. Nowadays where dogs do NOT fend off bears, lions, people and other dogs, ear cropping is more a cruelty. Yes. We may have bred floppy ears into the Canine species but since that was OUR FAULT (Human race), pointy ears is NOT a requirement for PETS to be healthy or safe. Therefore cutting off a working body part to a creature we technically made, is cruelty. Okay I am done ranting. I love Dobermans for their NATURAL protective instinct and personality. Not for their looks. I would chose a Doberman over a Shepherd any day. I live in a crap town full of drive by shootings and random muggings.
MoonGal 721 i respect your position and would not suggest somebody crop if they didn’t want to. And since my dogs ARE for protection, I’m glad you understand. Also, their “natural protective instinct” is because they were bred with those traits. Remember, Dobies are by design, not by accident. As far as neutering, there are also health risk associated with neutering. The real reason that neutering and spading is promulgated is because there are just too many dogs.
@@liekee_vb8145 Sometimes they're cut off for work (Like herding, fending off 1 wolf which one-shots them, etc.) Sometimes it's just to make them intimidating guard dogs But nowadays, it's for Dog shows and stupid crap.
I would like to add some comments In hopes that it will help people understand the Doberman breed and part of the purpose behind the development of the breed standard that has been in place for over a century now. Some are obvious health and protective measures while one aspect seems to have been mostly forgotten. Even a century ago it was never found acceptable for a dog to bite a person for simply touching it. An aggressive posture is a warning sign. A Doberman is and always will be a potentially aggressive breed. The measure of aggression will vary from one Doberman to the next. Some may never show any aggressive nature while most will in certain situations. As a pup it is difficult to tell how they will be as an adult. All Dobermans are naturally apprehensive with strangers. They are extremely family oriented and loyal. It is almost unheard of for them to full out attack someone unless given a reason or unless they have been abused. Cropping the ears and making them look more aggressive in order for people to clearly recognize the breed and not mistake them for a more docile breed is in the best interest of the breed, especially in this day and age. There is a much higher chance that someone may unexpectedly touch or try to touch them if their ears are not cropped. If a person is bitten due to ignorance it’s really easy to guess who get’s euthanized. Dobermans are a specialty breed and should always be understood and respected as such. Not cropping a Dobermans ears and taking extra precautions after making such a decision can only be seen as negligence on the owners part. Unfortunately the dog may suffer the highest price for such negligence. Doberman Pinschers are quickly becoming more popular and sought after. It is important for any Doberman owner or breeder to educate any person who seeks to own a Doberman for both the future owner and the pups sake. They are not ferocious but they need to be understood and respected as a specialty breed. Spouting out self righteous claims of inhumanity and cruelty against cosmetic surgery for Dobermans by people who have no knowledge of the breed is clearly ignorance. It is far too easy to broadcast stupidity this day and age. To summarize in a single sentence, floppy ears on a Doberman is a hidden danger and an accident waiting to happen.
Thank you so much for your information it really helped me and my decision and you are absolutely right I will crop my doberman ears thank you and God bless!!!!
This is so so true. I have only had my puppy a week and almost no one knew what breed he was because he hadn't been cropped yet. If you are going to have a protection breed, its in everyone's best interest to be aware, regardless of your dogs temperament. I literally had several people who thought he was a dachshund!
Thank you!! I have always loved Dobermans , and i was hesitating of cropping my future baby’s ears, i’ve seen people comparing it to a circumcision and in my opinion it’s the best thing to compare it with. I’ve seen videos of tapering , i believe it’s called, but i’m not sure if it would even work. Your comment really has helped me with this decision.
@@milkiesss Your very welcome. Be patient with your new Doberman. They will settle in and calm at one to two years of age depending on training and patience. They are the most wonderful breed. They sometimes seem half human and are very smart. They outsmart some owners. They will love you like no other so long as you love them the same. Please be sure to watch as many video's on taping and after care as possible.
blah blah blah blah blah...This was a great video very well made...All u hippies that thibk this is inhumane, I hope u dont eat meat from cows or chickens or pigs because the way we torture those animals just so we could have food is pretty extreme....I love my dog more than anything and he loves me the same I cropped his ears and he looks great feels great and probably lives better off than most u haters....Great video again :)
Lord of Cinder Like what difference? Cropping is done for aesthetics, we eat meat as a luxury because it “tastes nice” no different to cropping an animal in fact its worse because animals are slaughtered and tortured just so we can enjoy our beef burgers whilst dogs won’t even remember feeling the surgical procedure
Dale Melissa love loveeee ur comment, can relate so much to how u feel about some of these unnecessary comments on here and my dogs too probably also live a way better live than this hippies 🤣🤣🤣🤣 spoiled to the max, well educated , and yes my babies have their ears cropped as well 😎
Because yt algorithm will show you this if you're watched other doberman videos. It's pointless esthetic surgery on dog. Anesthesia is never harmless, and dog is suffering during recovery.
Other than aesthetics, is there any other practice reason to do this? I heard that it heightens their sense of hearing but not so sure how factual that is.
It's purely for looks and very unnecessary. Just one of those crazy things that continues mainly because it's been happening for so long. Of course as we know the time factor doesn't mean it should continue when it's bad. Eventually future generations will look back and say "they did what to the dogs ears?, why on earth did they think that was a good idea". Just like many shameful historic acts when we look back on them today. It's surreal reading all the comments on here of people saying things like "can't wait for our dog to get it done". I'll guarantee your dog doesn't share that sentiment. They don't want their ears to go under surgery just so people can 'keep up with the Joneses". I don't blame all people personally for doing this, it's just they have been brought up on this questionable information for a long time. Now that we have much better and faster access to information, surely there's no harm in you doing some of your own/extra research? If you just take the word and views of someone that stands to make money from it, do you truly believe that it's not about the money and more about your dogs health? It would surely seem like a conflict of interest. Please take a little time and hear different view points, there's certainly nothing wrong with changing opinions. It doesn't mean you are a bad person for originally wanting to have this done, it's just you were not given all the information necessary to make a more educated decision. Those in the industry that tell you it's necessary, will almost certainly be profiting from the procedure. People doing this to their dogs are really only doing it for themselves when you think about it. Mainly so they can show off their dogs 'cool ears' etc. They are not doing it for their dogs, no matter how much they may have convinced others and themselves otherwise. Please just think about it rationally and don't fall for the scare tactics. Your dogs not going to go have a shorter life because you never mutilated it's ears. That's a little crazy when you think about it. They will be much happier if you save them from a needless and extremely dated procedure. All of that plus you won't have to waste money on something completely unnecessary for your dog and you. That seems like a win win! Spend the money on some fun things for you and your dog instead, if you really want to spend it! I know I wrote a novel here but I am passionate about loving animals as much as possible. With that said please enjoy your time with your dogs while you can! They really are the most amazing loyal, grateful and fun companions on earth. Please consider doing your own research before you commit to getting this done. Thanks for your time!
This is probably the most helpful video I have seen! My girlfriend & I are struggling with this and this video simplified it! We are much more excited to do the next posting! Thank you for posting this video! It helped so much!
Your video is beyond helpful. I don't prefer how the vet wrapped my dobermans ears 2 days ago at all. I will be starting to wrap the correct way today and update in 4 weeks.
I am woke to how egomanaics are not humane, think sweet animals and other living beings are objects. Thats why there is serial killers sadists rapists. They are subhumans.narcissists.
Your video was very helpful, thank you! I have some questions. How many months does my Doby have to be to begin posting her ears up? Will she be able to hear while having the cotton balls in her ears?
Cropping is typically done between 8 to 12 weeks of age. Some vets will not crop beyond 10 weeks. It is a good idea to discuss with your chosen veterinary clinic upon receiving the puppy. She will be able to hear just fine. I may have typed this response to late.
This looks so uncomfortable. My own ears hurt just watching it. I would never do this to my dog. You are cruel and disgusting. you should leave your dog natural. shame on you.
It's not uncomfortable to post ears, just annoying but most dogs are completely fine with it. This is a very safe thing to do.don't push your feelings into it because you're too sensitive.
I would like to add my 2 cents. We use the same technique as far as the dowels. When we just posted the ears on our 9 week old, the base on the inside of the ear got a little irritated due to the tape being sticky near the cotton ball. We pulled the post and did the same thing but we didnt flip the tape till about 2 inches higher. Also we tape from the top downwards after you form the post like this woman did. We do one piece at the top to anchor it and then tape down. This is our 2nd doberman and this is by far the best method. Also, when taping them, dont pull tight, just wrap and compress the tape. You do pull the ear tight to the top when you anchor that first little tape at the top. When you go to pull the tape job and start a new, make sure to use goo gone or something similar on the end of a q-tip to release the ear from the sticky tape. Also, almost forgot, use baby powder on the outside of the ear before taping down the ear, the inside skin should be clean of any powder so it sticks to the reversed tape on the dowel. see this video....so helpful ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Onr36kFtzo8.html
great tutorial. wife and I just got a dobe 10 weeks old. his ears were cropped and I been looking for the best way to post them. I have seen other tutorials but none were as convencience as yours. your method is very clean. question, for how long we need to do the posting? others stated 7 months with them. thanks for your time!
As far as I know over the whole time the dogs puppy teeth get replaced with the adult teeth. You can remove it about a week after the last adult tooth has fully grown. :)
*1* The tubing circumference seems much less than the dog's ears, so don't you pull/fold the dog's ears around the front as far as they would reach as you tape them? *2* At 4:20 you spoke about the "natural flap" and wanting/needing it to be "BACK"? So the inside of the dog's ears are not necessarily flush up against the posts & you'll have a SPACE? Are you wanting the ears to NOT be wrapped where they would actually fold as far around the tubing as possible where they could pass as a "cone"? I'm going to look for a video you may have posted on the CLEANING of the ears & what's all involved with that process. Thx for the video(s). I don't know if all pups are that well behaved during that ordeal, but that one sure is awesome! :)
Help my dog been home 72 hours from surgery and his ears are super raw . I am stresssed cause it looks like it will never heal. The vet says put Neosporin every 12 hours for 10 days and cover with sock and others say don’t do that . I’m so confusedddddd
Thank you very much for posting this video. I'm having a problem keeping the post inserted in the base of the ear. The dowel slips out of the base of the ear every time my 5 month old pup shakes his head. Any advice?
I wish there was more videos of how to remove them. The vet I took my Dobie 2 fucked his shit up when they removed the postings. He had missing hair patches and they ripped his skin till he bled. I was furious when they told me it was normal. I went and bought skin adhesive remover and started removing them myself without damaging his ear or ripping hairs off..
My vet and breeder recommended posting at least through the teething stage. Some require posting up to 18 months and over. It depends alot on the crop, and the individual pup's ears.
Thank you so much for making it all so easy i was so tired of driving back and fourth to the vet plus $25 each time after the first two free wraps by far the easiest from everyone else be doing to much
Dobermans ears are cropped for 2 reason. First most protection/fighting dogs ears are cropped cause ears are an easy target for grabbing and biting. You pin them up and make them shorter to grab. Another reason is to keep them cleaner. Second I own a doberman pincher with uncut ears and part of his care is cleaning his ear when I got him his ear were very dirty. They stay clean cause he is an indoor dog and I clean them.
My dog has one that is standing up and the other folds over half way up. Do the ears harden differently or at the same time? Also, I still have a few more months before I'm done.
I had a question? I have a European doberman 11 months old. Once I remove the post the ears drop off. So does that mean it won't stand or is there any hopes making the ear stand.
yeah...Not worth the drive. I got sick of a 45 minute drive after 2-3 trips to the vet and had a groomer friend who shows her boxers how to crop. It takes a few tries to get the hang of but its worth not driving.
Ear Posting Galat hai Nrishansata hai aur 🐕 Ka Punch Mat kaatte. SACCHA DOG LOVER SACCHA INSAAN SACCHA ANIMAL LOVER BHULKAR BHI DOG KA KAAN AUR PUNCH NAHI KATWAATE HAI AUR DOG KA HYBRID PRODUCTIONS NAHI KARWAATE HAI AUR DOG FIGHTING NAHI KARWAATE HAI.
Its usually until the puppy teeth have fallen out and teething has stopped. Up to 6 months, but sometimes longer. I'm on my 12 week of taping and its still not finished. The breeder had a longer show style crop done so I think the ears are taking longer because they are bigger. My past girl had more a short cut so only took maybe 8-10 weeks of taping. But they say it goes hand and hand usually with teething and when that ends. I like the shorter cut personally, my current pup kinda has long ears but I think its just because she still has alot of growing to do, she's already the size my last girl was as an adult and this pup isnt even 6 months old yet.
How long do you post the puppies ears for ? My Dobe just got his cropped about two weeks ago he is 12 weeks now. is it to late for me to start ? and how long should I do it for @kelviewdobermans
