Hi everyone! This is Top 3D Shop, and in this video, we will tell you about the Dobot Magician robotic arm.
The Dobot Magician is a multifunctional desktop manipulator best suited for educational purposes. It comes in three versions which include different end-effectors: for example, the robot can move objects, perform laser engraving, 3D print, write, and draw. The device features an open hardware and software environment: it is equipped with 13 input/output ports and can work with two dozen programming languages.
The robot is compact enough to be used in tight spaces without compromising on its functionality; it is ready for use right out of the box and offers a smooth learning curve along with user-friendly software.
The Educational set comes with quick-change end-effectors which include a pneumatic gripper, suction cup, 3D printing kit, laser engraver, and a pen holder. The range of available add-ons is constantly expanded by the manufacturer. You can pre-order a linear rail kit, mini conveyor belt, and a computer vision module.
The Dobot Magician features versatility in operation: you can program and operate the robot in real time via computer, smartphone, or tablet. Either Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or wired USB connection can be used as a communication channel. The device can recognize voice commands and gestures: you can teach it by moving the robotic arm in space and fixing it in the end points. After the procedure is completed, the robot can repeat all the movements.
The Dobot Magician is compatible with a variety of hardware and software tools which are widely used in robotics. For example, the device supports the Robot Operating System software environment and Arduino microcontrollers. The Dobot Studio software allows for the simultaneous control of multiple robots, enabling you to implement an assembly line right on the table, which is also achieved thanks to the good repeatability of the device.
Today, the robot is used as one of the main STEM learning tools in a number of leading educational institutions: for example, Tsinghua University and Shandong University of Technology in China, as well as the Australian University of Technology in Sydney. An international community of enthusiasts study the possibilities of the robotic arm, share their experience, and work on common projects.
