Nurse here…the floor off the hospital is a black hole from which nothing returns, not pens not unopened prep wipes not sealed insulin syringes… nothing. If it hits the floor it’s immediately trash 🗑️

Yes, RT here… had some family members bring children into the ICU with no shoes on! I went and got grippy socks and put them on those kids feet… I told the family, the floors are not clean in hospitals for kids to not wear shoes…🤮

Did the information get them doing different ? I ask because when I drop objective facts-just as you did- I seldom get results, even though I deliver politely. During my ex-wife’s nurse training, a family brought in a birthday cake and lit all the candles. (And on top of all that, I think the patient had dietary restrictions because his abdomen was attacked with knife.) Anyhow, that family could’t understand why you shouldn’t have flame next to an oxygen spigot…

Oh the day in the ER when l went into a room and a child was under a cart playing with something. I about lost it! The patient who had just got out of that bed, went directly to the operating room....had been bleeding like a stuck pig. We were super busy and missed a blood clot right under the cart.....the kid was playing with a blood clot.

I witnessed this in person and was appalled. Took my son to the ER of a children's hospital. Not only was the child on the floor, but he was also BAREFOOT. In OHIO in mid FEBRUARY! As a nurse i know the filth on a medical facility floor. As a mom I think its even worse that its a children's hospital. Why? Because kids are freaking gross. They cough, sneeze, and wipe snot anywhere and on everything. 🤢
