The point to not let the focus on little girl from the start to make believe the audience that Varun was indeed doing all this for the finance but he wasn't and was doing for the kid. Also, a great point made by Achara about though he doesn't "express" emotions he is the most emotional person- the point director wanted to convey
Varun isn't simply a doctor, he is a doctor who works in the army, so it's just not about that one girl to him. Secondly, he knows he can't expect others to feel the same way as he feels, that's why he is marrying her even after he knows that she is acting selfish. It's easy to judge as a third person, but being in that situation, we will do the samething that the lead actress and her family did! As hard as it to accept it.. it's a fact.. atleast in India..
I don’t think the point is that she was being selfish. It's about talking and acting big. One shouldn’t talk and act big if they can't live up to their own words. It's hypocritical. That's why Varun marrying her is infuriating! A good person like him shouldn’t be with someone so hypocritical. But the reality is, there are many people who are genuinely good but they end up with hypocrites like her. It's really unfortunate.
@@shamsunnahar4335 that's exactly the point OP commenter meant to convey...irl everyone says big and comforting words to support a victim but when a situation like these happens Most people tends to be selfish, in your words "hypocritical" .. it's called human nature. 💀💀and as wrong as it sounds you can't blame them either cuz no one would play the hero role like in movies cuz lives are at stakes and they want their loved one to be safe and people will turn selfish... If this situation happened to you.. you'd do the same... We can all criticize and talk big until we start to experience it first hand... Rarely people like Varun exists irl. 😔
@@Azarath_Metrion_Zinthos you definitely didn’t get my point. Just because it’s a common characteristic in people and they tend to become selfish when it comes to their nearest and dearest ones doesn’t mean this selfishness cannot be or even should not be criticized. And how can you tell that I'd do the same thing in a similar scenario? You don't know me so don't try to act as if you know what I would do in a similar scenario. In real life, MANY people like Varun exists. So as long as they exist, these hypocritical people who talk big but can't act like it will be and ALWAYS SHOULD BE criticized. And I can blame them cuz there are many people who talk big but also act like it unlike these hypocrites. The point is, you shouldn’t talk big if you can't act like it when you're on the spot.
Fun Fact: During the pandemic Nelson( Director), Anirudh(Music) and Sivakarthikeyan got together to randomly make a song(Chellama). It became a huge hit that Nelson had no choice but to add the song to the movie even though it wasn't in the original screenplay. Hence the ending.
I found Kolamaavu Kokila much better than Doctor. Dark comedy theme as well but overall better storyline. But I did find Doctor to be much more funnier
@@tejashweruthaman9194 agreed. But I liked the way they portrayed vijay in the first half of the film which was fresh in an otherwise usual commercial mass film
That one girl left behind scene was added to emphasize more on Varun's character. The Director tried to portray that Varun wouldn't compromise on his moral values at any cost and he was shown as a completely selfless person as his fiancee tries to stop him in the climax scene & tells him that she wanted to marry him and if he will go back to rescue than he will be surely killed but Varun still decides to rescue that left over child. But yeah this scene could have been avoided as Jaby said or the Army people doing the remaining part would have been more realistic & logical like Achara said.
It’s not the sword that the thug was holding to kill the girl, he took it from the thug standing next to him. You can see that later both of them fall down after that.
I'm surprised no one noticed the Mr.Robot inspiration. From the characterisation of the super smart anti social lead to the framing of the shots where the subjects are not always in the center of the screen and the camera is always static. It's clear more than anything the director was inspired by mr.robot the show more than anything else Edit: good lord, no one in India thinks Milind Soman as an academy award worthy actor. He was the single biggest weak point in terms of performance in the movie. So your observation is on point.
*'Milind Soman' is a Stylish looking manly actor (who is also fit💪). He's good in fashion field & advertisements. I'm using a 'Casio G-Shock' series watch (which is expensive🤷♂️), because of him☺️👍.*
I completely agree with jaby, I was really hooked in the movie untill the climax, it became just a usually masala movie crap at that climax fight, But apart from that this movie is great and great chemistry btw characters and humour. The main positive is music, Anirudh just rocking it🔥
That masala crap is imprt to reach mass audience ... because mass audience face lot of things in life, for them movie is entertainment. Director did wat he can and it's running successfull that means it's approved
@@thebadalien8494 I really like masala movies, with movies that have masala commercial component from start or buildup before fights, Master is good even with masala fights because the movie demanded that. But here the whole movie never took that turn until that fight scene, it kind a took me out of the movie. I watched this movie twice in theatre and both times this scene was the too out of place for me🤷♂️
@@devilaasura3827 i 100% respect u r opinion , but due to high competition and Need of success in film making . Film makers don't want to take risk by avoiding commercial stuff . Even though the plot Doesnt requires Such stuff ...that's how it is that's how its wrkng
@@thebadalien8494 For a film's success commercial elements are not necessarily needed, There are movies that succeeded without masala fights, with real fights eg:Drishyam, Ayyappanum Koshyum etc.

That's y most Indian movies comes with everything to satisfy mass audience they're the biggest market . Infact indian movies still alive because of such audience. Director did wat he can and it's approved n successful
Oh kolamavu kokila is by Nelson too? I kept getting reminded of that movie while watching doctor because I thought the tone of both were similar and now I know why
Even I was expecting the Colonel to come for his aid and not him fighting the villain. I felt eased only when he came into the scene and I didn't actually need what happened before that.
Movie was good...but I feel they made Vinay (Terry in the movie) like a joke. Not so deadly... Either than that Sivakathikeyan acted really well like a calm and brave dude. The comedies are great as well... and the fact that the hero admitted that he didnt have a backup plan in the end....is really good because they always make the hero in tamil movie too perfect. Loved this movie and glad u enjoyed it Jaby and Achara.
Glad you guys liked this movie. I completely agree with jaby, the climax felt a bit off but it's a known choice director made. But still this is a completely unique flim. Guys Please react to the song you watched in the end of the movie. Chellamma, waiting for it......
I feel director itself didn’t realise this much about his own technicality in this movie.. 😄 (just on a fun note). But ur analysing talent is quite helpful for him to acknowledge of what technique has worked out well in this film as u received his intentions well! This detail feedback is very important for any technician and hence this will improve their confident and enhance their approach! U two doing great! Keep up 👍🏻
Hey Jaby really enjoyed your reaction n that was a really good review as well..just for some information, as you noted it was a very risky element to have the main lead that emotionless n grounded but there is more to it because Sivakarthikeyan is not just another actor. He is totally opposite to "Varun"...talking to him him for 2 min would literally be like the comedy aspect of this movie.....if you can, then give his others movie s n interviews a watch you will have a great time...all his movies are really a treat like this but you won't be able to tell if he is the same guy who played Varun..when Varun is all emotionless SK struggled to keep his calm n not break into laughs or not say any counters like a stand up comedian that he always does..still Nelson managed to pull it off You should check the interviews related to Doctor trust me you will love this more after knowing what Nelson DilipKumar, Sivakarthikeyan and Anirudh (music director), the trio's bond n the whole cast like Reddin Kingsley and the whole crew like Nelson's ADs are really like n how this whole film was shot
The ending where he becomes a superhero is made so that the people at c-sector of Tamil audience. A sector-city B sector- towns and city C- Villages The people from villages prefer a heroic end than a realistic one as that has a higher pull to theaters than a realistic one. EG: Ratsasan being an A-sector movie led to it being lower pull in cinemas. Also a lot of humour is lost in translation. I prefer a realistic ending where the kid is left or he dies trying to save her, but it doesn't tonally match with the movie. Coolness over realisim.
Personally, Im ok with the climax, but like you said, I agree that if he succeeds in saving the last girl, him dying makes sense. That's because I see this argument about good people becoming selfish, and theres zero chance. Due to that mentality no one is ready, so him dying will be inspirational to others. I was imagining the climax like this. Chinnu mentions there's 1 more girl missing, his fiancée advise him not to , but he goes (until this point its the same) after that he gets captured, the henchmen about to kill the girl but he saves her. In verge of saving her he gets badly injured, not in a position to defend himself, due to which Terry gets upper hand and subdues him so he can watch the girl die. Then the CO arrives, kills them saves the girl. He tries to save Varun, but he succumbs to death. They pay him respect in his funeral and posthumously awards him medal to his family. Realizing her selfishness, his fiancée opens a NGO years later to aid the victims of human trafficking and remained unmarried (usually not the case they would rather move on their life, but I try to be optimistic)
Suggesting reaction to Jai Bhim at the moment is like telling Jaby Koay to delete his youtube channel. Other reactors got copyright strikes reacting to Jai Bhim. I hate to be the partystopper, but a Jai Bhim movie reaction would be deadly for a big channel like Jaby Koay
LJP's churuli is out, while I can see why Jaby may have not enjoyed Jallikattu as it is quite experimental, churuli, while still experimental is a little more straightforward, but I wouldn't say that's a good way to describe it, it's still an insane film that I'm sure you both will enjoy, your next movie reaction should be this, it's only an hour and 54 minutes
Jaby.. I absolutely agree with your 1st issue, the little girls part could have been more elaborate.. However ur 2nd issue whr u thought why the doctor is shooting n killing people rather than just the colonel.. See, Indian audience are used to watching the Hero of the movie do action sequences, also the main actor Sivakarthikeyen is a huge star, so obviously we want to see some action.. Its just Indian mentality, nothing else.. Also the fight scene, it was purposely that way, to make it look silly, to make it look funny, that's the whole plot of the movie, Dark Comedy kinda stuff.. Also, the twin has nothing to do with breaking bad, these twins look like that for more than a decade, Raghu n Rajiv, u can watch them in Roadies.. Loved ur reaction though..🙂✌🏻
"Soul of doctor" was a super duper hit, and the making of the music was fun to watch in sunmusic. It was an attempt to satisfy the audience and they did a great job.
Hai bro this is kulasekaran from the native place of the move hero as dactor and his name is ( sivakarthikayan ) and love your base voice and i love your friends emotion and expetation keep rocking 🔥🔥🔥❤❤. And my city calld as Tiruchchirappalli, tamil Nadu, India ❤❤❤🥰
Hi Jaby and acharya. Answering ur query why didn't the hero killed the villain, since he is playing a doctor character in this movie, basically doctor's responsibility is to save people from danger not to kill. If u noticed from the beginning, the hero didnt kill anybody, he just executed his plan by shooting knee, cutting finger at times whereas he didn't kill anyone since he is a doctor which means saviour. Hope u both got Director's view.
To your question about how Alvin escaped - There is this another character, one of the missing girl’s father who drove the metro train, probably he let him know about Melvin’s death and set him free. That’s my theory 🙂
You're not alone jaby. He's a North Indian actor and he didn't suit with the tamil acting for sure. His acting was a bit off too. I felt it to be a bit cringy in this movie.
the actor sivakarthikeyan always know for his comedic movies with his emotional expression but nelson intentionally removed emotions from the sivakarthikeyan's character to remove his cliche
Though he's potrayed as emotionless doctor and just wanna save live but he cares all life d same. doesn't matter if he's terrorists or anyone. He cared.for the lil girl @ padmini s niece.. ( archana' s real daughter mom combo) Coz she was the first one connected emotionally to varun. Varun really liked Padmini. That's y like he.really sticked to his first love. No..he Already arranged a deal with the captain before he make..the final approach n blast... Vinay n the twins really did well...I like Vinay s acting of villain..usually he does like a chocolate boy role. Redin Kingsley n Yogi Babu...were so good.... Priyanka Mohan was just a icing on the cake..but guys he's doing another movie with her...Don.... And this is the best music BGM and now it's my ringtone....Anirudh..nailed it.
The next movie of Nelson Dilip Kumar is 'Beast' starring Thalapathy Vijay which is on production now. You could watch the previous one of his 'Kolamavu Kokila' starring Nayanthara.
He is working for army. Therefore he would be trained in combat skills little bit. Also he care about other children because he is patriotic than common since he work in army. And the relationship between him and the girl would be less to not to broke the unexpected twists about to come up.
The English subtitles in this video dint really transfer the colochial understanding of Tamil movie humor....no doubts...this movie is still a quirky one Even for us 😂
Thanks, Jaby and Achara. After watching a few minutes of your review, I realized the movie was worth a watch. So I watched it. And it was different...different good, better than expected. Even more surprising than the amazing cast was the staid and reserved performance by Sivakarthikeyan. It was like watching Bruce Willis in The Sixth Sense or Unbreakable immediately after watching his Die Hard series. Oh, and bits of the theme music were somehow reminiscent of one of my favourite Hindi movies from the 1980s, 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron'. Not sure if you guys have watched it before, but I'd certainly recommend it, having watched it over and over and enjoying every scene for its physical comedy, its dialogues and the scheming yet obvious political machinations.
Nelson Dilip Kumar was addressed as wesanderson in one of his friends tweet and Nelson was like ik i am not that that much valued and when his movie comes out people was able to recognise that wes Anderson thing . Epseically Americans did. And the last bit was little annoying because of the commercial needs of a films profit and business. Like how marvel ,dc and other movies works
Bro this not Hollywood movie this is Tamil cinema Tamil cinema audience like only this type we are like action music and emotional all thing do not comparison to Hollywood movies....😇
The 8ce cream shop inspiration is REAL LIFE. my father is a policeman. Entire gangster leaders use old scooters with singlets and a old man. Ive grow up with these type of people. None of the gang/goons were high maintanence. They maintained low key😅😅
*Great reaction guys😃👌👍👏👏👏. I really liked the way you're seeing the movie & trying to understand the every individual details. ('Milind Soman' is a manly actor. His screen time is short. But, still decent.)*
Jaby, you are right. But also killing Melvin is just like gus killing the the guard slitting his throat. And also the first time the family'sees the villain on their phone it is just like when Jesse and Walt look at Gus fring at los pollos hermanos... There are a lot more bb referrences...
I agreed to everything you guys said, amazing movie, great messages, beautiful details with an undigestible ending... The colonel parts (acting)were pretty bad too.

You guys are so cute together! I love to watch movies! Much before the time of internet, that we have to watch the international movies now, I use to watch and collect the world’s best movies - around 500 movies! I feel like I found my best friends!
The fight scene was clumsy because the family is an avg family put into chaos...we cant expect them to execute a plan to the dot even if varun is maybe the commander who came up with the fight..maybe this added to the reality of the scene...just my 2 cents
Its just like the family who didn't care for the girls who they didn't know. The movie doesn't spend time for us to like the little girl, but the question is, what is right thing to do. Save who you know and about or save everyone who needs saving. Just sayin
With Priyanka Mohan in this movie, I can't help it but get Nani's Gang Leader vibes in this movie. You know with the family going on a mission. And hero and the heroin love development throughout the story. The difference is in Gang Leader, Pencil would go crushing all around on Priya, who has cold attitude. But in this movie, Padmini slowly develope love towards Varun, who has cold attitude. Plus Chellamma video song is quite similar to Butta Bomma and Rowdy Baby video song. P/S : Happy belated birthday Priyanka Mohan.
