This medication has changed my life! Constant Negative thinking and ruminating has largely subsided. It has majorly helped with my executive functioning. I’m able to accomplish so much more in a day and it’s also really helping with chronic fatigue. I really wish I would have tried this 20 years ago when my major depressive disorder began. I can’t say enough about how my life has improved. I’ve almost completely quit drinking alcohol and certainly I’ve stopped abusing alcohol as a means for self medication. I resisted western meds for years and now I can’t be more grateful that I tried this.
@@kobebryant-cl7ul yes! It made my anxiety so much worse and gave me panic attacks, also made me very paranoid and more obsessive. I wouldn’t recommend it for people with anxiety
Man I am SOOOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! I just got this prescribed for depression & adhd. I hope that it helps me quit smoking too ad Ive been struggling with that. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Gives me so much hope. ❤
I take a low dose of Wellbutrin three times a day and it is a miracle… I go to sleep by 8 pm, wake up at 5:00/5:30 am well rested and ready to get my day started. I am less triggered and practicing other healthy daily habits. The ruminating negative thoughts have gone and an increase in mood. Individual/group therapy, better eating habits, exercise, and engagement in meaningful activities has changed my life. Please, whatever medication you take work closely with you therapist and psychiatrist ❤️
Nice to see something positive. Was taking something else that had me whipped out and headaches. My 1st day trying this hope it does not spike my anxiety though. ❤
@jasminestouchlallamant7907 Hey there! How's it going so far? I just got a prescription for this today. Taking my first dose tomorrow. A little nervous that it will increase my anxiety. Really hoping it will make a difference in my depression/ADHD
I’ve been on Wellbutrin Sr for well over a year and tremendously helps boost my mood and be happier throughout the day. Caffeine is also a nice touch lol.
I have been on bupropion 150 XL for 5 month’s. Female here. Have not been able to climax since I started. I honestly thought I had a pinched nerve somewhere. Sometimes I feel totally numb. No pleasure at all. It has however, made my lifelong depression disappear. Darkness is gone. So I will probably be staying on it.
@@erosbutyassified Well Dopamine gets released during climax and Buprorion has an effect on Dopamine, even more when you've been on it for months. When you stop taking it, then it might become better, otherwise it's an external problem.
Like everyone, I was worried about what could happen if I took antidepressants. When I told my doctor that I thought I might also have ADHD on top of depression, she recommended it. The first month for me was hell, and I almost gave up, but Wellbutrin (combined with anti-anxiety meds) ultimately saved my life 💖
Why was it hell and what made it get better? I have tried it for a few days and found it to be a very gross feeling substance. I wish I could stick it out for a month plus
@@BrendanPJamesdo you mind sharing how it feels gross? Does it feel like stimulants/amphetamines?? I’ve just come off adderall because I was tired of the anxiety it causes. And it felt too speedy
@@kobebryant-cl7ul it feels absolutely nothing like amphetamines to me. I've used Addy and Vyv a lot. It felt like an itch in my brain that made me feel uneasy but also tired. I have unique neurochemistry though, that being said I don't think it's a particularly amazing compound for most people
I've been on this for 2 weeks. I have been a "functioning" addict for my entire adult life and I have pretty much quit. I also haven't had a sex drive in years and I'm having urges all day now. SSRI made me more depressed and I stopped talking to people and isolating and this was like the complete opposite. It's definitely not placebo
Bupropion has benefits but I can honestly say that it is hard to come off of, very hard. The discontinuation syndrome twitches can be offset by magnesium and potassium. One other thing I found was that it removed the desire or urge to advance. I found myself very complacent and at peace with my life situation, which was not great. I had no umph, motivation, inspiration, ambition, drive, etc. I found that I was dressed good enough, clean enough, healthy enough, social enough, active enough, neat enough, etc.
@@Nutmegp I apologize for the delay in responding. The side effects I noted were while I was on it. Initially the effects appeared positive. After coming off, I did experience some effects mentioned by others which I was prepared for and understood were necessary. I also began to regain goals and initiatives, inspiration, motivation, etc., which was nice. I also laughed (appropriately) hard for the first time in awhile. The only side negative effect that I wasn’t expecting was nightmares. A few really bad ones. I tried two nutritional supplements that were recommended and they seemed to end the nightmares without issues.
Interesting, for me it was the exact opposite. I became way way more ambitious, partly because I could enjoy doing things again and partly because I stopped subconsciously thinking that I dont "deserve" to reach more ambitious goals. Glad you are feeling better though, everyone reacts differently.
I take it with 45 mg of DXM 2 X daily, and I have never in 67 years felt better. No anxiety, no sadness. I have been able to almost completely stop taking Clonazepam.
@@ThePassion81 I'm not taking it any longer. It did help in the beginning, but then it started making me feel dizzy and lightheaded. I'm now taking Luvox and Luvox has helped me immensely.
also have a problem with bathing. i have not taken a shower or changes my clothes in 4mos.. not point to it or fear of it , no ambition, no happiness, no motivation. I cannot "just do it"
I’ve used this to quit smoking many times. I’m thinking of asking my doctor about staying on it since it does improve my mood and hopefully it’ll help me never start again
6 months on Wellbutrin i had a 10 year coke habit. This drug lowered my cravings and i dont think of using. Have not used any drugs since starting and i quit smoking. Depressed gone only thing i dont like Is the insomnia.
I am trying this (only 3 days in). I had been misdiagnosed with anxiety my entire life but very recently found out it is actually adult ADHD (negligent doctors missed it my whole life before I had to work it out and then have it confirmed by a psychiatrist). Doctors put me on multiple SSRIs this year and I have never felt worse in my life. My intrusive thoughts have been unbearable and I've felt extra hyper. The last 12 months of my life has been utter hell which was completely unnecessary if psychiatrists could do their jobs. I am desperate for Bupropion to work for me as I prefer it over stimulant ADHD medicine for many reasons. I am worried because I know Bupropion is weaker than stimulants but at least it targets the correct neurotransmitters in ADHD (and thank God no Serotonin). If it doesn't work will have to unfortunately look at stimulants. My main issue is ruminating, intrusive thoughts, and not being able to shut down my chaotic brain.
I'm on day 5 and I have both depression and some forms of anxiety, and so far I haven't really had any side effects, but I just noticed my libido has gone way up today. I'm also in the process of weaning off Citalopram which absolutely destroyed my libido around 2 months in treatment.
Thanks for this! I was just prescribed and start tomorrow after trying other stimulants for ADHD and mood issues. This was the best description of effect (Internal and external) that I found!
Not the original poster but, I've been taking the SR form at 150mg twice per day for ADHD over the past 19 months. One first thing in the morning +-7am and the second at 3 to 4pm, if the second dose is taken later then getting to sleep is delayed so I skip the second dose. Still on the coffee @ one to two cups per day and sometimes more but not a full pot during the day as I used to drink it (at work it was one pot for me and one pot for 10 others and that amount even late in the day didn't interfere with my sleep). Bupropion got me through the last six months of the circus S---show before I retired, loved the job but... Depending on what I'm doing I have no problem with getting up in the morning, if nothing then I might sleep in a bit unlike before with hitting the snooze button then rushing to get to work late. Overall it has been positive, my doctor at the time wouldn't prescribe me any of the stimulants due to my past addiction issues (speed, alcohol, nicotine) and my usage of cannabis (legal in Canada) even though research shows very little risk for adults to become addicted/misuse them with past addiction issues - maybe it is because we have learned our risk and weakness.
That's not a stimulate like ritilan etc.this a great drug take in a.m.it will keep you up at night.. if you take too late. I take it along with a stimulate. Good luck .
I hated Bupropion. Got it prescribed for ADHD. And while at first it helped with some of my symptoms, it negatively affected my short-term memory and cognitive abilities. It was so hard to speak eloquently. I would constantly forget words, lose my train of thought. Sometimes I would go to the kitchen to grab something and as soon as I entered I would zone out for a moment and forget why I was there in the first place. It honestly felt like I lost 20 IQ. And the weird thing is that these side-effects aren't mentioned anywhere. But from searching Reddit, apperantly I wasn't the only one.
@@postvizsla7509 I'm taking it for adhd as well. from what I understand talking to my doctor. it really only helps if you're adhd symptoms aren't from adhd but from the anxiety. it 100% helps with anxiety and it get less irritated losing train of thought. I experience the same thing you do. memory loss, and more so forgetting because of getting distracted too abruptly. this just means you have adhd and likely need another medication
Same I got it prescribed for my ADHD, because they said my brain was overacted so things like adderall or vyvanse wouldn’t be good for me. It fucked my short term memory, gave me intense brain fog. Anyways I worked a high pace waitressing job at the time and got fired cause I put the wrong name on someone’s membership. Told them I was on a meeting medication but no fucks were given🤠 Anyways I feel ADHD/ and depression go hand and hand because of the lack of fulfillment because you can never focus to get stuff done, or can never finish a project IE. This antidepressant made me feel more depressed, still found my self frustrated to the brink of tears cause then I couldn’t focus and fucked up the most mundane shit that I could do before the medicine.
I switched to it completely from Decedrine. Honestly, my old doc had me on Dexedrine and Wellbutrin together and that was better than both. I fired her though because she lost it during covid. I might go back on Dexedrine, Vyvanse or Adderall eventually but my 90 day refills are heaven to me. I hate the every 30 days refill, paper script, rude pharmacists etc.
The Benzo Valium...is a light anti-seizure medication that is sometimes prescribed with other meds for this. I dont understand how a benzo could increase siezure while on Buproprion. Seems like it would prevent it if anything. I do know that my benzo (clonzopam) still will not put me to sleep after ive taken Buproprion. It just gets me too wired but i LOVE how it has completely curved my tempation for sweets and junk food. Also a decent appetite suppressant.
Hi there. Its not a problem as long as you take the valium... its a problem when you stop the valium. After a while benzos will have the same withdrawal effects like alcohol.
I was on it for 2 days, had to stop due to horrble heart Palpitations. I ended up in the ER, ekg, magnesium checked, BP all good but 4 days after stopping, Palpitations still happening. Definitely done with bupropion.
I take 300mg XL Wellbutrin. It has helped a lot for severe depression, and also helped with adhd somewhat. I’ve had lifelong bad anxiety because of childhood trauma, and I found Wellbutrin did not increase anxiety! My doctor prescribed hydroxyzine to take before bed, for sleep. It works really well and it’s not a controlled medication. One thing to note is that i always take my dose of wellbutrin before bed. i tried taking it in the morning, and it made me feel weird and uneasy. when i take it at bedtime i sleep through those bad feelings and wake up feeling normal! if you're having side effects i recommend trying it at bedtime, that fixed all my problems.
I feel like I need to take something but then I remind myself I wouldn’t be depressed if I was rich and free and not in a contestant state of fight or flight trying to survive.
I take 37.5 mg of Wellbutrin when I try the 75 I get quite anxious, but I don’t feel completely well either. I still have the depression. Right now, anxiety is what’s getting me and I’m losing most of my hair.
Long story short, ever since last year I’ve had a strange feeling in my chest, shortness of breath and tingling hands. There have been 2 times in the last year where I thought I was having a heart attack and 1 of them was when I was driving. It scared the shit out of me. Went to the doctor and my EKG was good, but my blood tests say I have high cholesterol and low vitamin D. My doctor thinks this might be due to anxiety and depression (I don’t think I’m depressed) so I just got prescribed Wellbutrin and this comment section is making me nervous.
I was on it for 2 days, severe heart Palpitations, stopped taking 3rd day, 4 days later and still having Palpitations. Went to er, ekg was good, magnesium was good as well.
Finally. Someone who mentions sexual disfunction with SSRI'S. I was on Citalopram and that took a major nosedive. 100% would not recommend for that reason. With that, I switched over to Wellbutrin and within 2 weeks I was back to my normal self again. Oh my poor wife......
I'm on day 5 of bupropion today and my libido has already skyrocketed after being on Citalopram for about 5 months and feeling asexual for almost that long. It's such a relief.
If you can get past the side effects it works well enough but it can trigger massive rage so much rage its frightening even to someone that's had anger issues their whole life.
Amen to that!! Don't let your doctor gaslight you, youre not "crazy" if you have this reaction. I took anger management classes 3 times and I still think it has to do with the meds, I mean my anger issues, that and the way I was parented. I think it's the fight or flight response, it overstimulates me and get ticked off easily especially if I'm stressed and anxious. Thanks for the comment. people need to know this. It may be a miracle cure for some, but a nightmare to others.
Weird... my co worker is Isaac wade... I call him Isaac Wade to get his attention. We were literally just talking about quitting smoking.... and were talking about buproprion for smoking cessation. And then you popped up on my tiktok 1 day later. Gave me chills...
@@hippopotamusanonymous1580 I know it didn’t cause it. It’s a virus. But the virus is usually dormant. Wellbutrin has caused the virus to become more active. Google it. Happens to a lot of people taking the medication
Thank you. This was helpful. I got this when I went to my Doc about my Adhd. I dont think this is great for me( i am on the first week so i will give it the four weeks), but i still have trouble focusing and staying on task. My depression is a symptom of my adhd and so i will ask him to change my scrips to a more adhd focus med
I've had Prozac years ago for major depression. Worked great but the blunting awful. No guitar, no piano, no singing or song writing, no art, no interest. Stopped having sex and haven't cared about male involvement for 20 years. I'm on Wellbutrin now for about 5 years. At least I'm super creative again (I'm a floral designer) and music and art are back in my little life. Panic attacks come on sometimes, but I can stop them with Ativan.
Any sexual side effects with the dxm included? Was thinking of trying this or just wellbutrin, I am having major major depression, but I don't want sexual side effects.
this drug was hell for me. i almost killed my self and was really hostile towards people on the brink of getting into a fight over NOTHING with strangers. plus, panik attacks and anxiety off the charts.
I just picked up my first prescription of bupropion yesterday because I want to be the best version of myself. I also DO NOT have a history of seizures, BUT being the sole driver of my family, it’s not a risk that I’m willing to take. This my biggest deterrent from starting this journey
I take Vyvanse and now they want me to take this on top of it, I have developed a major fear of driving since I started the Vyvanse. I want to quit , it helps alot but I have crashes (not car crashes) , where I come down hard from it and fear the same will happen with dope, I mean Wellbutrin, Very similar to the feeling one gets after doing cocaine all night , the next die you feel like your best friend died or something, bad depression.
@@anastasiamurawski6179 sorry that you’re going through all of that. To this day I haven’t taken it since I depend on my license to put food on my table, I’m going to opt out of meds for now.
3 weeks in for depression and adult adhd my depression feels worse and the sideveffects outway the motivation it gives me severe head aches jaw clenching cant sleep sweating no appitite rage irritated easily....dr had talked about combo later with vyvance but i dont thunk this is for me
I was using it for nicotine cessation and I must say it worked in that regard. I didn't quit vaping but it made it to where I was barely thinking about it and when i did vape it did absolutely nothing for me. The problem was that I was constantly agitated and pissed off for no reason at all. I had to stop taking it. I definitely wasn't depressed, I was just so far on the opposite side of spectrum that my brain wouldn't turn off and I would've rather had been depressed. I was literally exhausted from being irritable and brain not shutting off. Plus it made me feel really *detached* from myself like I was just a robot going thru the motions. It was not pleasant.
The reason why Amitriptyline is that high might be because the studies are a bit older and have a higher effect strength. So not sure how reliable this is!
Mine is anxiety is through the roof. I take 37.5 mg once a day in the morning. I just can’t stay on it any longer. I have negative ruminating thoughts. I get triggered by anything that I look at. I’ve always had a lot of anxiety. I don’t feel as depressed as I did, but I do have depression now and thenI just can’t take this anxiety anymore.
I’ve been on this for a week and a half and I’m having pretty crazy side effects. Yesterday I sat on the floor crying, started getting more depressed and I’m extremely irritable. Is this normal for regulating on the med?
Bupropion worked well for me, but it did start to make my hair shed and thin really badly. I started taking oral dutasteride and minoxidil. Do you think that we’ll help counteract the hair loss caused from bupropion? I’d like to keep taking bupropion, but I’d rather have my hair.
@@mickrozycki451 Yes absolutely! You know what’s best for you but there are other ways to help with hair growth if that’s what your concern is. Making sure you’re taking the right vitamins/right doses is huge, proper water intake, and getting enough sleep is important as well.
Anyone dealing with neck stiffness? Love the medication works great, but I can’t seem to take it everyday. I have been taking it every other day. My muscles get really tight, seeing my doctor next week but just wanted some opinions.
Just wanted to add if anyone is wondering. I take cannabis as well with my Wellbutrin and haven’t had any problems that I’m aware of. But always talk to your health care provider first of course.
@@karkkimarkkinat2109 personally cannabis helps with the side effects of Wellbutrin I don’t like. Such as muscle tightness, headache or not wanting to eat. Everyone is different of course, too much cannabis gives me anxiety. Just talk to your doctor about it, or see what works for you.
Im currently on 30mg on Duloxetine, while my anxiety is not nearly as severe as other people, it is enough to get in the way of my job. Duloxetine makes me HELL TIRED, I feel lethargic and i need to take 200mg-400mg of cafffeine daily just to function. It's not worth it's in my opinion. Im considering Bupropion, many people have told me about this.
Thats fine and dandy. I have heart palpitations and some insomnia but i also have anhedonia. Which is the worst thing imaginable. SSRI wont help with that issue so it looks like Bupropion is my only option. Plus, a lot of these side effects are temporarily not permanent
I took 150 XL for anhedonia as well as racing/intrusive thoughts. You’re right, anhedonia is extremely awful. It took forever, but after 4 weeks it calmed down in the afternoon to where I felt relatively normal (with the side effects you mentioned above heart palpitations, insomnia). Recently it started raising my blood pressure making it difficult for my medicine to bring it down. In my opinion that’s because it causes high anxiety from 6 am till like 11 before I start feeling normal. Switching to SR tomorrow to see if I can just have the good without all the side effects. I have to let it go if switching doesn’t bring it down but I’m hoping it does…I don’t want that feeling coming back.
Everything I've read about Wellbutrin and alcohol says they don't mix well. But I asked my doctor about it and he says that alcohol is fine and there is little risk unless you are prone to seizures. I'm not sure what to think anymore. I maybe have 4-5 beers a week, no more than two on any given day. In terms of caffeine, I notice that my tendency to get easily agitated has gotten way higher. It's much easier for me to get stressed out at work or snap at a customer. Overall, I'm glad I take it, but these are my two concerns.
They don't do broad efficacy studies bc most of these meds have extremely poor results.. that's the truth.. wellbutrin does seem to be one of the better ones tho
My doc gave me this for anxiety and panic. It’s my first week and I feel more anxious, warm, and can’t sleep well. I’m also swapping from Effexor so I’ve got some Effexor withdrawal happening.
Is there an antidepressant which only focuses on dopamine? Reason being is that I have abstained from a pornography addiction but am not having sex or other stimulation. The so called science behind the "no fap" movement argues that the dopamine hits are what make the activity addictive. And since I'm no longer getting those hits, my brain is severely experiencing a deficit in dopamine, and I need medical help/advice. Anyone help please?
I hear ya brother. Give it sometimes for your dopamine to heal, maybe try fixing your dopamine system. Search for more plates more dates dopamine healing or something like that. I'm planning on giving that a try and then hopping on Wellbutrin
I've been using this for 2 days and although it says wait around 7 days for it to kick in, i don't think i will ever feel any difference. I used to take adderall before this and i rather not have anything but that. However, i'm not sure where i can find any. Anybody know what i can do?
I had an anxiety disorder prior to taking Bupropion have been taking it 10+ years and am not as anxious as I was now. Perhaps it is your body getting used to it.
It did absolutely nothing for me. Maybe because i'm not depressed. I told my physician assistant that i had existential ennui and i was losing interest in ... but that i think that's the natural way of things in your late sixties. Then she said let's put you on wellbutrin. I went up to three hundred milligrams and it basically had no effect on me. I tapered off of it in a week to ten days with no ramifications. On the other hand Kratom works great for me... But I think i'm addicted to it and it's not working as well as it used to. Better living through chemistry yes... but you need to balance your equations. 😝
I take the IR, immediate release, formation because my genetic test showed that I don’t metabolize bupropion very well. I had weird side effects when I tried the XL formulation
I smoke weed alot. Got buproprion prescribed so i wouldnt be so dependant on marijuana. This drug supposedly sets in over the course of a few weeks but it took about 8 hours after my first pill, and i realized it was getting me rlly rlly high in an uncomfortable way. I caught myself driving through a 35 going 70 and i just couldnt believe how fast i was going. I thought my spedometer had fucked up. This substance is beyond odd and should be treated with great care untill youre brain chemistry has comfortably associated itself with this medication
So I have been taking it for a year I started of with just 150mg of the bupropion XL and recently my doctor up the dose to 300mg twice daily ( I take it 8 hours apart) I wasn't aware that it can cause negative affects with caffeine such as energy drinks and coffee I like to have those before the gym instead of taking pre workout. Should I just switch to having green tea instead?
@@cookiearboleda7651 I didn’t know we could. I thought it was once a day but Makes sense now. I started in 2014 and it doesn’t work like it used to too. there was a point where I took it twice a day back in 2017-2020. that’s when it was still working. Thanks for the feedback
They are both stimulants & bupropion is similar to an amphetamine.. so with adderall which is an amphetamine.. I’m guessing it may give you a sense of euphoria & a rush.
Benzodiazepines are anticonvulsants, they are the first choice für ending seizures. Not for preventing them but for ending them. Maybe you mean benzo-withdrawel?
I completely disagree that you should be smoking while taking wellbutrin- it's going to be way stronger. A lesser known side effect of wellbutrin is anger/rage you can find stories of this in forums. As far as the abuse potential it is not possible to abuse bupropion- you will only get side effects and no benefit. You cannot get high on bupropion. As far as the anxiety angle- it actually helps you sleep (when taken in the morning) and you will get some crazy dreams.
Could bupropion affect diabetes just asking out of curiosity as I'm on Brintellix here in Australia aka trintellix in the USA and I'm only in adjustment phase at the moment but always have an interest to learn.
Thank you for this video! I have one question, is that possible that bupropion influence my appetite, later on, I mean I was taking it for 2 weeks but nothing happens ( no side effect ) but I noticed that I lost my appetite in 3 weeks since I taking it, could that correlate with bupropion?
Hi Weronika, I can't comment on your specific case but bupropion has been associated with decreased appetite and significant weight loss. I have not found any info regarding when decreased appetite tends to occur, but it's entirely possible that this side effect could emerge weeks after staring the medication. If weight loss is bothersome, another type of antidepressant (ssri, snri, mirtazapine) might be more appropriate. Talk to you healthcare provider for more info. Hope this helps!
