When I was 10 y/o my cousins from Kentucky, who were carpenters, came to stay with us for a summer and build a new house for my family. I was on the job site all day everyday and learned a bit of everything about construction. I added this to the knowledge I was already gaining from being a farm kid, knowing about growing crops and raising animals, along with repairing things when they break. Ironically, many years later, I began working for a retail home improvements chain as a manager. It was invaluable knowledge that I had retained from all those years int eh past that helped me work with a variety of customers from homeowners to landscape and construction contractors. So it's never a bad thing to learn life lessons when you're young.

So sad for Kenji. He has had the best life a dog could have. You can talk all you want about rainbow bridges, but when you deal with a family pet it can be heartbreaking. When our dog, Sherlock, passed, I think I cried for days. I still grieve for him. My heart goes out to you. Love him up while you can, Kenji knows you love him. That matters. Gotta love corn nuts!! You are right, shopping is nuts. I’m a single senior and have see the cost of things skyrocket. It’s tough when you need stuff that keeps getting more expensive every week.

Sitting here watching our Aussie cattle dog, Bailey (117 year old) and I am blessed with every moment we have with this faithful above all others friend !!!! Hard being watchful of time slipping by but grateful for a world filled with God’s creatures full of love!! 🙏🙏🙏for Kenji too❤❤❤

Sad to hear about Kenji, God Bless him. I have a LhasaApso/Shihtzu ,Charlie, Charlie had a tumor on his side, vet kept draining it, finally could drain no more. Within a month tumor grew to size of a softball. He is 13 years old, vet operated, Charlie did fine. Mass sent out, results came in, stage 2 Cancer,low grade. Hes happy, no pain, eats good, slightly overweight but at least gave him more time. Enjoy them while with us.

Wow, 😭. I know he is 90 but that is never easy. I’m glad you brought him home. We took our 18 year old rescue for a regular vet visit and that is when the doctor said “enough, it’s time.” I feel so much a part of your family that that is a day I’m not looking forward to with Kenji.

My heart goes out to your family with Kenji. when we lost ours also to kidney failure it was losing a child . Shar pei's have the best personality of all the dogs we ever owned .(and we have had many). Prayers to you all !

As a human that grew extra bones (spurs) in my shoulders, I can attest to the pain they actually cause, it’s going to be hard as they are on his spine, but the less he moves the less it will hurt. You could try CBD. Kenji will let you know when it’s time, he’s had a happy 90 odd years with his 1 family, which is a blessing in its self. So pleased the C hasn’t returned, you’re a good boy Kenji 😊.

For Kenji, fireworks means happiness with his family. He's not scared; everyone is happy. He is too. It's beautiful. Happy New Year you 6 wonderful people!

Ive been praying day and night for Kenji! I praying that his last days are good. It's so hard to lose your fur baby❤! I'm in tears as I remember when I lost my Sheba girl she had liver cancer. Definitely cherish every moment! Our angel, Max, is a real angel now. He went through a similar experience, and eventually could not stand or walk without his wheelchair. I stopped working and spent nearly every one of his waking moments of his last 8 months trying to make his life as comfortable as possible. We burned through a large amount of our emergency fund. I don't regret it one bit. He gave our family joy for over 19 years, and we wanted to do whatever we could for him! He always loved getting kisses, and I'm pretty sure he averaged at least 100 kisses per day in his last years! 😊 🐩

What an amazing life you have had so far Kenji! Tons of adventures and a loving family. Who could ask for more. You have served your family well and I pray that all of your days are the best they can be.

I have also taught my dog with hip arthritis to “stretch” after laying down for some time. It helps with his hip PLUS allows blood flow to the area that might had been restricted lying down thus making the hind leg to fall asleep. I remind him as he’s getting up to “stretch” and reward him with enthusiasm. Front legs straight out and his hip up high for a good stretch.

Sometimes life means doing what you don't like to do, but also getting to enjoy the things you do. So sorry about Kenji. I still miss my little buddy after 8 years. Prayers for the family and Kenji. Go Kaimani! I realised only just in time that I should’ve paid attention to my father’s carpentry skills. He taught me how to use a handsaw, but I should have learned so much more! Btw I do like doing drywall, bc it turns a skeleton into a space.

OMG guys, my heart is breaking for you with Kenji. My own GSD is turning 11 in April which is very old for a German Shepherd. She is also losing weight (muscle mass) but thankfully her hips are still good. I pray you get another year or two with Kenji, and I get the same with my Leta. Jeremy, you must be SO happy to be done with the overhead drywalling. When we added the 520 sq ft addition to our home, we used scissor trusses for the cathedral ceilings. The worst/hardest part of the entire addition build was doing the overhead drywalling. I am so happy for you that it is done. You need to oil up that drywall lift lol. We are finally back to reality here in N. Saskatchewan. Currently -20 and going to -42 on Tuesday night brrrr. I see in your forecast that snow and cold is coming for you too this coming week. The mild fall was a nice change for us up here. As always, sending love and hugs and a special hug for Kenji and a "woof" from my Leta and Colt.

Happy New Years you guys and gals. Yep .... when your pets get old it is difficult to watch them go down hill. My German Shorthaired pointer Max was 110 pounds when he was a mean and lean hunting machine. By the time he passed, he was less than 75 lbs. He was 14 years old when he passed in 2020. All we can hope for is that they do not suffer in the end. All the best to your family, and most of all to the "Wrinkle Dog" Kenji .... take care🐕✌🏻

Kenji is such a good boy and he has been living his life surrounded by love and fresh air. My prayer is that he lives the remainder of his days as comfortably as possible and that you're all going to be able to handle whatever may be by simply loving each other through. I lost my Grace to bone cancer and old age three months ago. I never imagined my heart could hurt so bad as I said goodbye to my friend of 13 years. Also, I am -well- into my 50's now and still treasure the times I worked with my Dad, in my memories, and am thankful that I can still do so. It wasn't always easy, but he taught me a lot.

So lovely to see Kenji so full of bouncy excitement & joy about the fireworks, & sharing that with you all…hopefully you will all get to share as many more moments as possible like this with him. ❤ I wonder whether a winter doggy jacket might perhaps help him with his hips & spine during the colder weather (perhaps even a heated one)? It might also offer him a little padding/ insulation from the surfaces he lies on, especially in areas where he’s perhaps lost some from his body.

This was one of the most difficult vlog to watch, Seeing Kenji so excited especially with the time you have left with Him… And seeing Kamani, working on putting up drywall in the garage addition, and learning some very important skills for when ever he decides to go and begin his own work. I literally found myself at the verge of tears when I seen you and the vet talking about the bone spurs, and that with Kenji having a pet that is so family oriented is one of the greatest experiences in life but just like us we can’t be here forever and seeing him enjoy the time with you his family really touch the heart and pulled at the heartstrings. Getting old is not fun-and if you think of a dog who lives majority of his life outside, time, weather, moves from one climate to another and so on takes its toll. What makes a difference in Kenjis case is that he’s well loved and cared for.
