“Do not talk to me about sacrifice, Stephen Strange” That line got me the wrong way and I think it was meant to do so. Wanda is so crazy and obsessed that she doesn’t care about other people at all. Strange lost his sister, He lost his hands and his profession, he gave up his old life and the woman he loved to save the world, he was tortured by an unspecified amount of time by Dormammu, he died to save the earth from Thanos, and people still give him crap for being an instrumental part in saving the world from Thanos. I don’t think Strange is as tragic as Wanda and she definitely has the most tragic upbringing but I also think If there’s anyone that could’ve understand her it was Stephen.

I think black widow had it much worse. Thanos? Thanos watched his whole planet die and he was the last one. Add in the fact that they hint at him being a failed eternal, there is a certain amount of guilt there too. He's my favorite tragic marvel character.

Also his sister and hands were not a sacrifice for the "greater good". Wanda had to sacrifice vision to save the world and her children to save Westview. And she has nothing and no one to support her emotionally. So she is alone and gave up her happiness and love twice with nothing to show for it

I thought it was interesting that Wanda kept calling Dr. Strange a hypocrite. She said when he broke the rules, he’s called a hero. When she broke the rules, she’s called a villain. But it reminds me of when the Ancient One back in the first Dr. Strange movie broke the rules and drew power from the Dark Dimension. Everyone was mad and called the Ancient One a hypocrite. However, the Ancient One broke the rules to HELP people and not for greed. Dr. Strange did the same when it came to using the Time Stone and when reading the Darkhold. Was it wrong? Yes. But he broke the rules for the right reasons: to HELP people. Wanda broke the rules for greed and selfishness.
@TheMeloettaful

I was basically telling my mom this. Everyone did something wrong in order to help the greater good. And between Stephen and Wanda despite him wanting to be with Christine he chose to be the bigger person and put aside his wants to save the multiverse. While Wanda though sympathetic didn't give a damn what happened to anyone as long as she got what she wanted by stealing another Wanda's kids. And obviously we saw what happened to the other Strange who DID DO what Stephen wanted to do, but ultimately failed.

@pmpowalisz

Let’s not forget that Wanda killed Vision to stop to save half the universe but because Dr Strange gave Thanos the time stone, her sacrifice meant nothing and she still lost Vision. So Wanda did have at least one good reason to be angry at Dr Strange. Also she did destroy the evil Darkhold in every universe (presumably with her life) so don’t say Wanda didn’t do anything huge for the greater good. Frankly the destruction of the Darkhood books out ways the killing of the Illuminati crew.

@kindabatooni9314
@kindabatooni9314 Год назад
@@pmpowalisz What happened to vision was not Doctor Strange’s fault. Any other reality they would have lost and vision would have died anyway. This was the only way and Wanda has no right to be angry at Doctor Strange who literally disappeared for five years to save everyone. He lost Christine to another man and lost the Sorcerer Supreme title. He’s someone who lost everything as well ( his sister died in front of him and he couldn’t save her, his mentor died and his other mentor betrayed him and stabbed him in the back and tried to kill him, and if they went with the comics then he lost his brother and parents as well ) and he tried multiple times to reason with her but she threw it back in his face. Wanda has killed so many people in Kamar-taj and in other universes as well not just 838. She killed defender strange as well. God knows how many people she killed through different universes while chasing America.

Wanda overall was just dealt a REALLY SHITTY hand in life, and it was just a series of unfortunate traumatic events one after the other for her. I hated how the mid-credit scene undercut the ending of the film. You truly had a horror movie ending of Strange seemingly moving forward with his life, walking down the street with a smile only to curl over in pain and have the 3rd eye appear like a "You really thought it was over?" moment. Then you have the mid-credit scene where life seems to be 'back to normal' only for a magical woman to appear and tell Strange to help fix and incursion only for him to seemingly open the third eye with ease meaning that there must be a gap we'll get in the 3rd film showing Strange dealing with the eye and then being able to control it at will. Really wish that scene wasn't in the credits....

Alot of reviewers have been questioning Wanda's apparent regression after Westview, where she let go of her conjured reality and family. But remember, the end of Wandavision was ambiguous and she retreated into isolation quickly after so it's not surprising that she continued to seek a way to be with her family. There was no one there to help her process her trauma and grief. Her character experienced repeated loss and trauma throughout her life and the coping mechanisms were always to seek comfort in family, first her twin brother when she lost her parents, then when he passed away there was Vision. She needs companionship but was ignored by the other Avengers when she needed them most, showing they are not friends or family but a utilitarian construct of martial defence. Not saying anyone deserved what she did, just that the villain was in a way constructed by everyone's indifference. This makes the final scene where the other Wanda shows compassion quite heartbreaking. The only other empathetic individual who tried to help her was herself.

Of course people try to minimize her trauma but her twins were her last vestiges of hope, so as soon as she read like half the Darkhold at the end of WV of course she was too far gone-- she honestly would have replicated Westview but the catch was they couldn't leave the hex. She tried not to actively hurt people and the Darkhold twisted that desire too, had our Strange kept using it I'm sure he'd be more than just possessed by Agamoto. Vision was gone to restore his emotions on a VisionQuest just like the comics, Hawkeye was with his family and she didn't want to interrupt that, literally the only person who's trying to save her is Stephen. Everyone else thinks she should be stopped no matter the cost, even other Stranges would. It sets up Meri being besties with Billy after he's aged up magically or multiversally. @@nailinthefashion Yes, good to point out Stephen still saw her as Wanda and was empathetic. I like Stephen's character growth is him affirming his value system. For me this is where comic book films really shine when they give the protagonist an ethical conundrum that is solved through a rigorous value system that is tested to the limit. It is easier to vanquish villains than save them. This, for me, was what was compelling about No Way Home, Peter Parker's instinct to understand threats and enemies rather than destroy.

Thing is just about every major Marvel hero has lost something significant and been forced to give something up to do the right thing. So for me Wanda worked in this film as a response to that. Essentially, what happens when a hero (with a huge amount of power), actively chooses to do the wrong thing. I can be sympathetic to her because she definitely got a raw deal, but everything she does in this film comes across as self-serving and irrational precisely because it is. Now wether or not she can come back and be considered reedemed? I'm not sure. In the comics Marvel has a storied history of writting her into these extreme corners that would make for fascinating character studies...but not knowing how to get her out of them. She may have started on a path back to good here, but I will not be able to take the next project with her seriously if they just welcome her back with open arms.

@mcnooj82
@mcnooj82 2 года назад
@@bronzetiger6360 I don't think so. The movie introduces Wanda as someone who has an intense connection to her children... and shows that it's a dream... that is later explained to be connected to the multiverse. And shortly after shows us that she's someone willing to access the multiverse to get real versions of those same kids. For the purposes of this single movie, that's enough to establish her motivations for resorting to such extreme measures. We don't need to know who the kids are beyond being Wanda's fixation. All that matters is that they're sweet kids that love their mom. What more do you need to know? Even the very brief mention of Westview is specifically brushed aside by Strange to focus on the main plot. A mother doing whatever it takes to get her kids back is a very straightforward motivation that doesn't require watching WANDAVISION at all to follow this movie. It only matters if one feels entitled to have seen every past movie/show explained by the next movie. I know some people watch media that way, but I don't respect it hahahah Even the introduction of Wanda into the movie is contextually set up by Strange being told that the monsters are based in witchcraft. So he goes to see a witch he knows. That's not all that different from FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING having Gandalf visit Saruman for guidance/help regarding The One Ring. And like Wanda, Saruman is quickly revealed to have darker intentions in his first scene. I know that Tolkien's source material has all sorts of additional details about that relationship, but for the purposes of Jackson's first LOTR movie, I felt he provided exactly the context anyone uninitiated needed to know in order to follow the movie. We don't need to have read all of LOTR or Silmarillion in order to understand what's happening (at least I didn't need to back in 2001).

Like Martin said, the comics are comics: they can do whatever they want. We've seen characters, Marvel and DC, go from hero, to villain, to anti-hero, and back.... While what Wanda has done is certainly "unforgivable", in the context of comic-book storytelling, there is a Jim Carrey in Dumb-and-Dumber SLIGHTEST of chances that she can be redeemed lol. Her ending in the movie is indicative of that. That doesn't mean tho that what she's done up to that point isn't fucked up though lol. People mad at her story, I wonder why because her behavior is totally consistent with what we've seen set up in Wandavision. Just because you're following her journey from HER POV, doesn't mean she's necessarily a 100% hero. But we'll see how things go. Look at what they've done with Loki, making him this likable villain to root for somehow. Not out of the realm of possibility with Wanda. As for the rest of the movie, it was definitely disjointed in parts and felt a little too fast-paced without proper time to let certain character & story moments gel.... But i honestly had a GREAT time watching it. Definitely one of the more fun MCU movies, and unique in visuals & tone, with Raimi bringing some horror elements. While I don't think it's necessarily a great movie, I actually personally rank it a little higher than most, just because I had so much fun with it.

I love how this actually follows horror movie structure a bit. The main flaw in our lead (Strange’s arrogance) is what gets everybody else in the movie killed. Illuminati were VERY full of themselves when Strange warned them about Wanda, only to get massacred.

This could have been really good but there wasn't a buildup of her character to allow her to become such a villain. And they didn't give enough to convince us that Wanda was changing into a villain. If she had a progression and things that affected her not having children I would have bought her reasons for being so evil.

The kids should've shown that they had their powers in that universe. Regular Wanda goes noo don't do that, dont fight. Kids attack scarlet witch. Scarlet witch freaks out and kills them eventually by accident. Scarlet witch loses what is left of her mind and starts going on a rampage. Surprise the audience with Scarlet witch shifting her crazy and power to another level. Strange and america win by actually using the book of vishanti somehow without scarlet witch just obliterating the universe. Or have an ending similar to the what if Dr strange that has to keep ultron contained. But that's the problem when you have a character that can rewrite reality. You have to have a lame ending similar to the latest wonder woman ending. If you're gonna kill off characters and shit have a crazy ending not a touch your face for reassurance and then your character decides to sacrifice herself. Let her go full psycho and die full psycho.

Well Wanda def ain't dead considering Elizabeth Olsen signed a new 7 movie contract so she's def coming back but can they redeem her is the question. She's done terrible things in the comic's as well but they also found ways to redeem her but as far as the movies go she has to do alot to be redeemed in my eyes atleast.

Btw the movie addresses Corey’s so called plot holes. Fist, in the movie Wanda says she will travel to other worlds if one of her kids gets sick. That line implies that Wanda is not going to stop even if she gets her kids. Second, America Chavez states that she is the only one, there are not other versions of Chavez in the Multiverse. This pretty much confirms that there are not infinite versions of all people in the multi-verse. There are plenty of dimensions where there are no Wanda twins. It’s cosmic randomness you’re not gonna be able to get everything you want. personally I like America Chavez‘s performance, yeah they don’t give the actress a lot to do but that makes sense because she is a vulnerable child. She isn’t one of these “super kids” which is a problem with a lot of writing when it comes to fictional characters across genres. Even though she’s a child and she cannot control her powers, through her mannerisms and little droplets of character, it’s pretty obvious that she has courage. And I thought the child-writing was really good because of that. I feel like Chavez and Doctor Strange have chemistry, but it was just written incorrectly? Doctor Strange has been shown in the past to be a very closed off person especially to children and young people. But I feel like with all the things that they went through Chavez should’ve been like an adopted daughter to him. Like I thought she was going to be his apprentice at the end of the film and get a big hug or a pat on the head. This is post Spider-Man Doctor Strange so I imagine, even with the forgetting-spell there would be some paternal instinct still left in him.

My only criticism is the power disparity between Strange and Wanda? Did something happen in No Way Home that nerfed him? He seemed weak in this movie.

I don't believe Krasinski will be back or wants to come back, nor wanted to take the role to begin with; he probably knew he was there for fan service and in no way does he appear to embrace the few moments he has on screen any more than to finish his lines. His agent got called, negotiated a fat check and he liked what he heard so said "yes". Marvel tried to kiss everyone's ass with this film, just as they did with No Way Home which imo was completely written _around_ fan serving.

Agents of SHIELD season 4 really drives home the fact how *anybody* can be corrupted by the Darkhold, regardless of their emotional state, nor does it take a lot to fall under it's thrall. 6:14 And? Steve Rogers was willing to fight Thanos's entire army to his last breath in Endgame before reinforcements arrived. 10:03 Patrick Stewart confirmed with ScreenRant that he'd be open to reprise the role.

You’re right about the darkhold but her previous actions in AoU don’t help her image. It actually made me care less for Quicksilver because of it. As for Peggy fighting Wanda…bruh. What’s Gorilla strength and a jet pack gonna do to someone with reality warping powers and telekinesis? Peggy was really that dumb to think trading blows with a being like that would help when Wanda didn’t need to lift a literal finger. Cap in Endgame was all alone so he had no choice but to fight but Peggy had three others to go to. She could’ve helped break the glass Chavez was in but she thinks doing flips and kicks will help after Wanda just turned the most elastic and durable dude there into string cheese. Her death was inevitable but unnecessary. This was unfair to Peggy. IMO, sometimes being a good soldier means running away. That’s what the Double Toasted crew were pointing out. Shoot, look at the Dunkirk incident.

I read somewhere that Marvel comics revolves around the hero's duty to society, while DC is about the hero's duty to self. Wanda is what happens when the hero is more concerned with self and their own desires instead of how can they help society. Strange stops himself before he goes over the same cliff as Wanda.
