I mentioned it in a previous S8 reaction, but in case you missed it, yes, the big Missy reveal was spoiled for me here on RU-vid several series ago. But there are many more moments to enjoy about this fantastic episode - thanks for watching with me! :-)
I was just pondering upon how you'd react to the Classic original version of The Master. In some corners, Missy has been favourably compared to Roger Caesar Marius Bernard de Delgado Torres Castillo Roberto - or, as he was more usually referred to - Roger Delgado - The original, you might say! He - plus his successor - were the versions I was brought up with. John Simm was, sort of, okay, but, hands down, Roger was the one class act that brought the character to initial life.
Personally, I interpreted the snap to open the door as something psychic between the TARDIS. So the person (Doctor or otherwise) would need access to a key for it to make a connection and respond. Otherwise, it could land in a street and some random passerby, clicking their fingers to a beat through their headphones would open/close the doors constantly.
@@pun-inator6075 My own has been, since the Classic series, that the TARDIS key, being part of the ship, is also part of the 'circuit', the telepathic field that the Doctor is part of and also, individually, emanates. The act of handing over one such key to a newcomer, by the Doctor, acts as a recognition signal to a TARDIS, such as "This person is trusted to enter'. Of course, personel, in The Capitol on Gallifrey, such as the engineers entrusted with maintenance or security, would be able to enter. A high-ranking Time Lord, like The Master, would likewise be able to obtain access, unless prevented via some form of disrecognition barrier. Since his degree of Cosmic Science was of a "higher order" than The Doctor, such a thing would be a minor task and he could accomplish entry with a wry chuckle.
It's easy to get spoiled on Missy=Master by now, unfortunately. And then HBO spoiled the fact that there are Cybermen in this episode! Sometimes you just can't win. Great reaction anyway :) 16:31 Danny knows Clara is not bluffing. He says "I love you" _so that_ Clara will cut him off; her stated alternative was that she would try to come to the afterlife to be with him / rescue him, and he didn't want that for her.
Doctor Who is notorious for having The Master appear, without explanation, from what was previously certain death. But don’t worry, Missy will give you the fullest explanation of how this happens.
@flaggerify he didn't recognize the Master back when the Doctor was 10. but i can assume it's bc the master was human at the time with the whole stopwatch thing. but he never saw Missy's face associated with the master before, so he might not have recognized her, idk
3W stands for '3 Words'. The words Doctor Chang showed them - "Don't Cremate Me". John Simm is fantastic in the show Life on Mars. It's what made him a big actor, and is why he later got the role of the Master in series 3/4.
Every time I see that final scene with Dr Chang I think that there's no way I would say anything remotely nice if it hastened my death. I'm glad you understood Clara's desperation which led her to the extreme action with the keys and the volcano. I have seen at least one reactor getting quite aggrieved and outraged at her "disrespect".
A lot of people seem to be really angry with her because of that moment, but I definitely understood where she was coming from. She was so distraught! 😥
this was one of those episodes that just confirmed for me how much i loved peter capaldi's doctor. it's such a shame that the 'reveals' were spoiled as they were so beautifully done. the treatment of danny, though.....aarghhh!! thanks, as ever, for a great reaction!!
Chris Addison is the guy the plays the assistant. He's worked with Peter Capaldi before on another series "The Thick of It" which was created by Armando Ianucci. Armando also created Veep, with Julia Louise-Dreyfus. Thick of it centers around uk politics but is in the same vein as Veep.
I got spoiled on the big reveal back when it first aired because I’m in Canada and 5 hours behind the live airing in Britain. I made the mistake of accessing Twitter mid afternoon and the BBC…yes the BBC!… spoiled the reveal🤦♀️
The BBC is terrible for spoilers. I think the worst instance was the continuity announcer at the start of the first broadcast of Angels Take Manhattan, saying "And now its time for the tragic last journey for Amy and Rory in the Tardis.." And later, the trailer for season 10 spoiled a really major character reveal, months in advance.
Am I the only one who always thinks of the "Christmas in Heaven" musical number from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life every time I see the title of the next episode?
Why the Cybermen are scarier than Daleks: When a Dalek gets you, it's an efficient quick blast to end you as swiftly as possible. It's almost a mercy, especially compared to torturous mutilation.
Some media has actually suggested that the Daleks deliberately dial down their weapons so that the death will last long enough for the victim to feel it.
I'm sorry to hear you were somewhat spoiled by the reveal of The Master but yeah her actress Michelle Gomez is the very first female incarnation of that character. What became of Simm's Master who knows ? :) The Master always shows up when you least expect it. The scene with Clara betraying The Doctor (kind of) to push him to disrupt time to save Danny that was from that point on I lost respect for Clara.
