The Yaz is in love with the doctor moment for me was pathetic writing from Chibnall. First, I am not against a same sex love interest for the doctor. My problem is that this was ignored and never developed properly in the entire run of 13th doctor. And to finally bring it up in the third to last ever episode of the 13th doctor just smacks to me of Chibnall writing for the fan fiction stories.

In regards to Sarah attacking the Doctor, I think I like that because there have been so many times where guest characters or casts just blindly follow the Doctor 2 minutes into an episode. It was nice to see someone turn vicious and frustrated at the Doctor because she's continually failed to save people's lives.

I agree with you I actually liked it. Because, she was right it was the Doctors fault and I’m glad they finally said something about it because usually they don’t say anything and just blindly follow the Doctor and are usually killed. Xx

Absolutely agree. Usually, the only people that push back are secondary (and deliberately annoying) extras who die in the next scene just to emphasize that "The Doctor was right!" I really enjoyed seeing someone that didn't just fall in line immediately, but also wasn't permanently killed off 30 seconds later as an object lesson of not questioning the Doctor.

River was a special case, since she was an unofficial Time Lord. Like Missy told Clara, the Doctor's Companions are essentially unusually smart pets. They keep the Doctor from getting lonely, help with (relatively) simple tasks, and eventually die or leave. The Doctor is sad for a short while, and then gets another one.

Maybe I missed something, but why did the Doctor assume that midnight was THE deadline, especially when they were trapped in a time loop--yet she couldn't figure out that the TARDIS was behind it? Do Daleks celebrate New Year's? (Okay...I'd love to see them in plastic party hats that blink "HAPPY 2022!")

David Tennant said it best during the episode with Rose when he said to her "You can spend the rest of your life with me, but I can't spend the rest of my life with you. He meant that since he ages because people of his/her race, age a lot differently than a human being, it would never work and he knew exactly what would happen. That has been the case for decades, but it only came up in the modern era. The only relationship that could've worked would be Romanadvoratralundar

I agreed with most of the points especially about Yaz and the Doctor (me and my sister just looked at each other grinning at that part) but I disagree with the point about Dan not knowing what a Dalek is. He does know what they are because of the doctor using them to stop the flux. I think he was just pretending not to know what they were to distract it and gain the Doctor and Yaz more time because when the Dalek figures it out he says ‘took you long enough’ and also when Sarah calls it a robot Yaz and Dan both turn around and say Dalek in unison implying that he does know what it is. As for Sarah and Nick not knowing what it was I don’t understand that because of all the Dalek attacks in the past. That’s my thought anyway

@@SuperCrazyfin yes but not because he’s never seen one before. He has he was asking what they actually was? Because the Doctor never explained it to him. She just said their name and what the plan was. She didn’t tell him anything else about them. He probably worked out himself previously that they was alien but he didn’t know what type they was. All the others that they came across during “Flux” was explained to him exactly what they was and where they was from Etc… with the exception of the “Daleks” they was never explained to him so he didn’t know anything about them until now.

Only thing they got right for me was the Dalek voice. Deep, powerful, frightening. Sadly, the characters didn't behave remotely as scared as I would. They weren't even scared of dying over and over by Daleks. So much naff. And was the mom in the loop too? Did that mean the whole world was in the time cycle? Only thing I like about Who in Chibnall Era is the introduction of John Bishop. A genuinely likeable, interesting character. Shame we lost Kevin McNally in Flux. Couldn't he be the new Doctor? Those two would rock it as Doctor/Companion. Also, that rousing speech was embarrassingly bad and patronizing. I turned it off, could't face the simple dialogue.

But it fell flat!!! The idea that yes we would have some explanation after the flux and what the long term effect of the flux on the universe would be with the Earth being the only planet truly untouched.... Yet this all gets skipped over and its just lets just flush the rest of the flux out of the Tardis. Also felt the episode suffered from to much "Telling it not Showing it" Over explanation.

The Yaz/Doctor shipping in this has made me really want Mandip to stay in the TARDIS when the Doctor regenerates, especially if the Doctor turns into a man again. I've known a lot of Sarah's (women and men), so it felt familiar with me. Some people can come from a family or life that causes them to get vicious and blaming pretty quickly, then super sweet the next mind. It's usually a sign that they had a mentally rough upbringing, or are dealign with something in life.

See I think Sarah going after the Doctor makes sense and works considering most of the time there’s a special episode with guest stars then the new characters will just blindly follow the doctor for no apparent reason. I like that while she is willing to follow the doctor, she won’t just stay in her lane and stay quiet. And she’s technically right, it is the doctor’s fault and after hearing that she should be able to say how she feels. Also Sarah and Dan were the MVP’s of this episode for me. Dan knew both the doctor and Yaz have feelings for each other put he didn’t push the doctor into saying something, unlike with Yaz. Instead he just wants the doctor to be honest with themselves. And Aisling Bea is just brilliant 😂

The BBC experiment for me the last few seasons has been a big failure. Jodie has been outshone first in season one by a companion, in the second outshone by another Dr, maybe poor writing but she's never pit her own stamp on being the Dr - most of the time it's like she's reading the script. Overall, the worse Dr since Dr Who's rebirth.

I think this was actually the best episode of doctor 13. No subtle or not so subtle educational or environmental messages. No rewriting of canon. Just a decent sci-fi adventure. The only downs for me were Sarah's meanness and the daleks poor shooting. Agree with the rest.

It was all good apart from the cringe poorly delivered speech the doctor does about friendship and failing and life and whatever it was just so unnecessary and seemed to think it was more meaningful than it actually was. And the Jodie and Yaz stuff 🤦🏻‍♂️ the doctors romance with rose was explored across multiple naturally occurring moments. Same with Riversong. Felt weird after Rose but it still entirely believable But with these two? When you’ve got such poor performances from them both nothing they say is believable. There’s no chemistry there at all. And the reciprocated romance from the doctors side has come literally from nowhere

I've said it before, and I'll likely say it again: I think Jodie Whittaker was brilliant! And in no way is responsible for any problems Doctor Who had during her time as The Doctor. And she has nothing to apologize for. It's my thought, and I could be wrong, that there were people of there, (a vocal minority I think,) who decided to 'hate' her Doctor the moment they heard a lady was going to be playing the part. (I've been rooting for Joanna Lumley ever since I learned she was considered for the role in the 80's. I was a big fan of "the New Avengers" in the 70's.) I wish she could've stayed on, if only briefly for the return of Russel T. Davies, and I hope she'll be back for some visits in the coming series. Sorry... I'll put my soap box away. As always thank you so very much for the video. And Happy Holidays.

The thing that wrapped up the Jeff character was that he turned out to be the guy that was being hunted by Tim Shaw in Jodies first episode. The taxidermy hinted at him becoming the hunter of sorts, the tinned food was a survival instinct, he didnt have an underground bunker but probably felt a storage unit was the next best thing and he was such a strange character in his first appearance beef and beans was in no way a suprise favourite food of his. Plus the fireworks and lab were probably a defence strategy just incase another or the same alien threat returned for him. I did feel it was another up, it was unexpected when the woman that fell to earth, episode we would ever see or even hear from the Jeff character again.

.This episode needed to go some way to washing away the bad taste left by Flux's finale, and for the most part, it succeeded. It was entertaining. it had some proper laugh out loud moments, and the core concept was handled reasonably well. Aisling Bea's Sarah brought a lot, and part me wonders how much of an impact Aisling herself had on the way her character was written, as it had the fingerprints of her comedy all over it. The characters developed, and each character given enough room to breath with derailing the main story. Though I'm not sure I give Sarah and Nick's Burgeoning relationship long without the threat of imminent extermination (also, we only have his word for it all those exes are Alive) . It felt that they were pushed together by story conventions, to drive forward the Doctor and Yaz romance subplot, and whilst they aimed for "Adorkable" with Nick, it still hit creepy by my book. Perhaps a better resolution would have had them actually deciding to properly get to know each other rather than jetting off into the sunset. Though it wasn't fully explained how the Daleks were still murdering their way through the universe, apart from a throw away line about the "war fleet"(aren't all Dalek fleets war fleets essentially?) It was nice to see the Doctor having to deal with the consequences of her casual genocide in Flux. Kind of. I feel like the impact could have been greater if someone had died, Probably Sarah, to really hammer home the guilt. The time time loop was handled reasonably well, and I liked them throwing off the Daleks' predictions by being totally random. The shortening loop was a neat idea to maintain tension, though the timings of everything were really fudged at the end there. They did a hell of a lot in that final minute. Including getting that massive cart of explosive material down from the fifth floor to the basement in that lift. Stretched credulity a little bit. The Daleks were handled reasonably. I liked the way they adapted to each loop (but they probably should gave killed the power every time), but they ran into the Daleks biggest weakness; an inability to hit a target that's moving in any direction at all. Even If that direction is directly directly away from them down a narrow corridor. I was also very confused as to why the Daleks just stopped trying once they were out of the time loop. Didn't make a jot of sense. I was sitting through the final scene in front of the rubble expectantly waiting for one to turn up and just start blasting, but sadly, no. All told, a reasonable, fun and entertaining episode, definitely intended to be enjoyed with family just after a new year's day roast when you've just finished off the prosecco from the night before. Happy new year everyone. I hope this year brings more good than bad, and is full of exciting opportunities and and experiences which challenge your comfort zone by just the right amount. God bless you all.

There's a bit of a down for me about one particular scene with Sarah, Yaz, Nick, well pretty much everyone in the storage room. When Sarah is laying into how weird it is that Nick still keeps some of his exes' things, while the dude is right there and he's just like "well, guess I'll just die now!" She technically drove Nick to suicide by Dalek because she couldn't suppress that moment of "let me make this moment embarrassingly awkward for everyone, including Nick." I don't know, maybe it was just me, but I didn't like that critical moment from Sarah. I'm kinda mixed on the Stormtrooper levels of accuracy from the Daleks' gatling gun in some scenes, but it still made for an enjoyable episode/special either way.

And it took about 5 seconds for 2 daleks to completely annihilate each other. From watching the show for years my mind tells me I would never be able to destroy a daleks armor with something like a hammer, but give me a few minutes with the hammer on the door and I'll have a huge hole for you... They totally fucked it up

@@garethdowson exactly. A lot of what I disliked about this episode is things like that. you know, awesome little bits that would have been great if there wasn't something equal to drag it down instead. Still, I'm basically putting this at the top of my list for the whole chibnail run, because while it wasn't all great it just feels like a bland episode the same way some of Tennant's were sometimes just there. But what a sh*tshow it has been if a bland episode can excite me more than the actual important ones 😅

The human race's memories of the Doctor and 'his' exploits are entirely subjective to whomsoever writes the adventure. Bradley Walsh's Graham didn't even believe in aliens in Jodie's first episode despite many successive stories of attempted invasion by different species of alien. We never got a satisfactory explanation as to why Amy didn't recognise Daleks. These things are either forgotten by the lazy writers or the reasoning is never properly laid bare for us poor mugs watching.

Has anyone got any clue as to why Karl the crane guy from the woman who fell to earth was randomly dropped into this story? Why is he just there in Manchester at New Years? Just seemed a bit random and pointless to me. Generally an enjoyable episode though and Sarah is without a doubt the standout character from this story. Looking forward to the return of the sea devils too, I hope they are handled well.

I'm still not sure about this Yaz and 13 thing. Yaz has never had a well developed character as someone impressive. And she has never shown any sense that she finds Yaz to be all that brilliant on this scale. Remember, he married River Song so the bar has been raised so high that Yaz can't reach that. Rose absorbed the damn time vortex to wipe out the Daleks so Yaz isn't even at Rose levels. Yaz isn't even at Amy Pond levels - mother of River Song, helped fix all of space and time, helped saved the universe. 13 suffered for billions of years in the confession dial to save his impossible girl but never fell for her like that. Not even Martha levels - the one who walked the surface of the globe for like a year to tell the story that saved the world. It would feel very forced if 13 reciprocated these feelings in the context of modern day Who. Just haven't done the leg work to justify it. Otherwise, fantastic episode. Chibnall has been generally a main of big ideas who fluffs the execution because he's crap at character development. But when his ideas are contained within a simple story where he's not going beyond his capabilities, he seems to shine. It's not among the best episodes of the modern era but it at least takes us back to when Who was less hit and miss.

I loved it. I hated how it ended just because it had to end, cuz for one moment you have Dan just running around it and the next he just stands still letting it kill him. He could have possibly stalled that one dalek by himself for minutes and then bring in the reveal that there's now more than one dalek because Dan the Man outsmarted the first one by basically dancing around it and now the second one comes in from the sideline surprising Dan by killing him instantly and surprising us too if they don't show us the second one first. Does that make sense?

This is now one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes. Flux had so much go wrong with it (in part due to having to suddenly last second have to eliminate an entire planned episode and then fit the contents of that episode into the others,) but this...this was more like the Doctor Who since 2005. Actually, this episode also would have worked with Nine, Rose, and Captain Jack instead of 13, Yaz and Dan, and I felt an "aha" moment when I realized that during the episode. I loved this episode I thought it was really good, it wasn’t without its flaws but it was still great and one of Chibnals best in my opinion. I loved the Daleks in this episode I thought they were very intimidating, cruel, calculating, menacing and also cunning like they used to be in the classic series and I really liked that. I also loved the New Dalek Gun Design, made it epic. Ik people are complaining that they should be able to hit a moving target that isn’t that far away from them but actually it’s much harder to hit a moving target than people would think it’s more difficult because of how fast they move, when you shot, what angle the bullet is heading etc. I also loved the Daleks having a lot of funny dialogue with the supporting Cast it was interesting and they weren’t acting like typical Dalek soldiers. I loved the moment where Dan walked straight up to the Dalek and taps in on the eye 👁 I thought it was very funny and brave. I actually liked Sarah attacking the Doctor and calling her out for causing the problem because, I feel it’s something that isn’t done enough. Usually the Guest stars just blindly follow the Doctor without asking questions and are killed. There were some awkward scenes as well but it was still good and didn’t subtract from the overall story. I am also really excited to see the return of the Seadevils because, we haven’t seen them since 1984s 5th Doctor story Warriors Of The Deep, it’s gonna be awesome. I only had two things I didn’t like from the story, I’m sorry to those who are a fan of it but personally I really am not a fan of Yaz having Romantic Feelings for the Doctor because personally I’m not a fan of companions having romantic relationships with the Doctor because it hardly ever works the perfect example being Rose with the Tenth Doctor (Ik I can feel the Karen’s replying to me already but please allow me to explain my reasoning). Personally I felt that Rose spent the whole time fan girling over the Doctor constantly flirting and wining with him If she didn’t get her way. I also hated how Martha’s time in the Tardis was constantly overshadowed by Rose because the doctor was still being petty at the fact he didn’t have Rose with him. That’s why I loved Donna and Amy because they didn’t have a romantic relationship with him (yes Ik Amy sort of did in the beginning but she realised that Rory was always the one for her so she doesn’t count). My only other slight nitpick is that I found it weird that when the doctor and co are hiding from the Dalek that the Dalek didn’t just blow the door open to begin with as we see it do this later anyway (I am simply Nitpicking here as Ik it was to help build up the suspense and Tension). Overall a great episode and it gets a 9/10 from me xx

I despised the way that Martha's character was portrayed as developing this crush on the Doctor and having this long-term jealousy over Rose. I loved Martha overall, though. I thought the Doctor missing/mourning Rose was alright, but I can see why it would bother some people the way it was portrayed. The Tenth Doctor is my favorite but I still recognize that he was not always the nicest or fairest person to his friends, Martha most especially. I thought that Amy's crush on the Doctor was annoying until I realized that it was written in sort of as a way to highlight her choosing of Rory as her actual love, and acknowledging that even if we are in love we can develop crushes/attractions for other people, but that doesn't mean that the person we love stops being the right one for us. It's something that didn't work for me at first but it did over time, as I saw how much Amy really did love Rory. I have no opinion of 13 and Yaz; I haven't watched enough of 13's run to see how they fit with Yaz. I enjoyed reading your opinion :)
@TheWhovinerd-1963
@TheWhovinerd-1963 2 года назад
@@tsuritsa3105 thank you for replying with a kind comment and I enjoyed reading your opinion, personally the only part I didn’t like about Martha was her developing a crush on the Doctor, I don’t mind her being jealous of Rose as tbh it’s pretty understandable when the Tenth Doctor brings her up almost every opportunity. The tenth doctor is My third favourite Doctor as he’s slightly over taken By Peter Capaldi at spot 2 and Matt Smith at Number 1. I don’t hate David Tennant’s era quite the opposite I love his era Especially series 4 which is his best series in my opinion, he’s just not my Favourite Doctor. I’m just not a fan of companions having a romantic relationship with the Doctor because it tends to be the main focus between the two when it is established and it usually goes horribly wrong which I don’t like. Rose is my least favourite companion and I feel bad about it because she was the first New Series companion, I just feel she hasn’t aged well at all especially in series 2 (I am referring to her attitude etc) however my opinion may change later down the line if Thasmin as ppl like to call them do work out effectively with 2 episodes to go, we shall see. I also completely agree with your comment about Amy at first I was like ohh god not another Rose and then I saw how it ultimately made her realise that Rory was always the perfect man for her especially after he waited 2000 years outside a box for her just to keep her safe, if that’s not love and dedication idk what Is. Well as one of the many who has felt dreadfully let down by the Chibnall catastrophe of nearly destroying Doctor Who for good I can say this was the first, and maybe the only Whittaker episode of Who that I really enjoyed from beginning to end. Yes one can nit pick. That has almost become a full time hobby with those of a rather aggressive disposition and in this story it was the Dalek not able to simply blow up a metal roller door. The Doctor's comedic line doesn't save this silliness. However I felt at last an engagement with the characters. Compared to the recent Flux, and the prior two seasons, this was a refreshing episode in that it felt like old time Who. Yes that is a conundrum. Whittaker was given some decent dialogue for a change and her side kicks felt like genuine people we could care about. We had a soundtrack/score which had elements of musicality to it and not just dull ambient sound effects. Yes we have the Daleks again (but would you rather the talking ribbons from Jodie's second episode). And another plus was guest characters with genuine personality. Personally I found the character played by Aisling Bea quite delightful. Now we need to get rid of the excessive use of the sonic screw driver and over exposition spoken to the audience direct from the Doctor herself. This may not be an all time classic but if you think back to series 11 then this is a huge improvement a very long time in coming. It is as if Chibnall begrudgingly has been forced to adopt the changes viewers, not just fans, were begging for. This can not avoid the fact he is a writer of very limited capacity (at least with D.W.) but any improvements were taken with pleasant surprise. Add on: Sorry but as much as I love the two guest stars for me the romantic ending felt false. Not that I really cared. I thought they would make a more best buddies relationship. Great characters though.

Question ; At the start of each new timeloop the famous five popped back into existence, but I could not work out the logic of where they appeared. Each loop started a minute after the next so I thought they would all be a minute futher on, but the Doctor and crew always appeared outside the Tardis and the woman by the front doors. Even by the second loop the Doctor should have appeared a minutes run away from the tardis.

It could end at 5 to midnight, 5 past midnight, half seven in the morning, or even three years later. Was it a case of it is new years eve so it is an obvious story detail.
