It could happen. If someone stopped flapping about the budget and started looking at how animation cells could be reused for multiple episodes, it'd become a lot more realistic... I mean Daleks 'move' - you don't need to reinvent that if you've got the main angles covered... Also, jungle is jungle and sand is sand, and half of the alien league don't even have faces, so it's not like it is costing £5 every time the Doctor raised an eyebrow. All those things can be recycled... AND the UCLAN live action MTTU is perfect, no need for any animation there.
BBC: We’re wanting you to animate “The Dalek’s Master Plan”, here’s your budget of all the loose change we could find in our couch and we’re gonna need this done by the end of the day. Don’t disappoint, or your family is gonna get it
I can just imagine the day after the final lost story is animated, some guy is just going to wander into the BBC with a trunk full of complete, original, pristine copies of each and every one of those stories.
I just hope that around the time of 2022 - 2027 we’ll be able to find the actual missing episodes. We’re looking at you Singapore & Hong Kong! 🎞 🇸🇬 🇭🇰 👀
Another RU-vidr pointed out that he found the Shada animation more effective because they recorded the audio to go with the animation -- and that it flowed better. I will admit I kind of agree. IT's hard to animate based on the original soundtrack and the visual documentation we have for each missing serial. I still want to see them animated, but I do think tightening up the stories for animation isn't necessarily a terrible thing.
Once they've done all of the missing stories, they could then animate Paradise of Death, Ghosts of N-Space or any of the 8th Doctor audios. Would be fantastic to finally have more 8th Doctor DVDs on the shelf other than just the TV Movie.
honestly, it will never, ever, happen, *but*, if they were going to animate anything that isn't a missing episode I'd want them to start with the VNAs, just do the big plot relevant ones and the better liked ones, some already have audio recordings, and just finish the 7th Doctor era. Then do the 8th Doctor era, and we have a "complete" set.
@@dommoore6180 VNAs would be fantastic too, but of course not all of them have been adapted for audio yet. Plus with how recent the VNA audio adaptations were it'd seem less likely right now.
@@VitasVarnas oh it will literally never, ever happen. The current brand wants to distance itself from that entire era of the series, it's been around a decade since McCoy's era was correctly labelled (it went from the accurate 1987-1996, then to 1987-89, 1996, and nowadays it's just 1987-89) and most of the modern series fans have little to no interest in the era either. In fact only yesterday I was on Reddit explaining to someone that just because DW was cancelled in 1989 that didn't mean the era was bad and in fact the show had been cancelled before season 24 had even aired in any case. They weren't having any of it. The modern fanbase seems mostly invested in 9-12 with a superficial sense of approval given to Doctors 1-5 and a like for 8 despite only focusing on his post-era content as opposed to the stories of the actual 8th Doctor era.
Well this made my day! 😄 Thanks for the shout-out, Josh! You clearly love and are so knowledgeable about the missing episodes and the animations, and that is always fun to watch! I really feel called out as someone who had The Wheel in Space on pre-order for 2 or 3 YEARS and also want the Highlanders animated! 😆
I'd love to see another Hartnell animation- BBC Say that the audio is too poor...which doesn't explain why they animated the Reign of Terror? Anyways here is the top 5 Hartnell stories I'd like to see animated: The Smugglers The Savages Marco Polo The Crusade The Celestial Toymaker
I once used this program called Capstan to fix some of the Myth Makers audio for this fan edit I did, and the results were pretty great. If I can easily do that, surely the BBC could pull it off.
When I watched The Space Pirates, I couldn't follow the story at all, so an animation for that story would be great. Also, I find it odd that they didn't do an animation for The Crusade before the Collection release for Season 2.
You should do an updated prediction as it’s now 2024 with Galaxy 4, The Abominable Snowmen, The Underwater Menace and The Celestial Toymaker having now been animated. Although I prefer Troughton to Hartnell, I do agree with you that they need to do more Hartnell animations. The 3 remaining Troughton ones aren’t the best of episodes, so I’m hoping they focus on Hartnell Episodes
Nobody does it like you josh!!! Always nice to hear you talking about this topic. Agree about highlanders and savages. I do like the smugglers though 🥴
Breaking News! The Smugglers, and Underwater Menace to be animated this year, plus a couple of classic stories to be colourised! I could think of better stories to be animated, but very happy about Smugglers, and colourised stories have always been on my wish list! What stories would you like to see in colour?🎉😊
It's good to see animations come to light they do a great job but my prediction for 2023 my hope is these 6 missing episodes that Philip Morris mentioned that are in private hands will come to light. I'm hoping for the season Blu Ray release they will release the Hartnell and Troughtons seasons last just so they can give them enough time to recover as many missing material as they can it probaly won't happen it will probaly be just animations but I'm hoping will get some recoveries of the original episodes throughout those years.
I hope you realise that, as an actual highlander, born within walking distance of where the Highlanders is set, I am now legally obligated to fight you for not liking a story set in my local history. Like it's not even optional, we're going to have a fight now. Sorry about that.
1:56 New theory: Josh is himself involved in the Galaxy 4 release in some way, but he has to still pretend he isn’t! (Maybe the making-of documentary?) That might also explain his absence over the last few months (Yes, I know he *said* it was a mental-health break, but that could’ve just been an excuse!)! 10:41 Well, I only use the narrated CDs for the missing stories, and the audio quality seems pretty much perfect for all the stories on those!
Couldn't agree more with your point about these not being history books. It's like how every Shakespeare has been re-interpretted, re-imagined and re-analysed a million times so we end up with these incredibly rich works; contributed to by millions. The Doctor Who novelisations sometimes hit on this opportunity, whereas the animations almost never do. Personally I'm much more interested in building a better tomorrow, than in preserving the past. BBC please open up the world of Doctor Who to re-imaginings
I dunno if both Galaxy 4 and the Abominable Snowmen will be out this year, I think one of them will probably end up coming out start of 2022. I reckon Marco Polo will likely come in some form in 2023, seems an obvious choice to recreate the earliest missing DW story for the 60th. Could be wrong, might end up coming out in 2024 for it's 60th, but I think that it's coming sometime around then. As for the rest of the animations, in terms of the 2nd Doctor, I think they'll jump around a bit. Possibly they do both Highlanders and Wheel together because they're both 2nd Doctor companion introductions, though I think they'll save Wheel for last, doing the Space Pirates and the rest of the 2nd Doctor tales before the Highlanders and Wheel, so they'll probably be 2026 or something, idk. I think they'll release the 1st Doctor's missing episodes in order (outside DMP, Marco Polo and the Crusaders), so probably the Myth Makers, the Massacre, the Celestial Toymaker and the Savages, finishing with Dalek's Masterplan as the finale to the whole Missing Episode animations thing. Of course, this is just my speculation, and definitely things won't be like this (I mean, I expected them to finish the 2nd Doctor's missing episodes before moving on to doing the 1st Doctor, but Galaxy 4 is happening). There's still hope for the original TV episodes being found down the back of a shelf in TV centre or something, resulting in not needing an animation or whatever for the Crusaders or something. Who knows? That being said, whilst it's far of, once this whole saga is complete in 5-8 years, I fully expect they'll move on to animating original tales with the 4th-8th Doctors, which is a very exciting prospect for me.
Agreed on Marco Polo and for me the reason people are pushing for it to come out in the first half of 2023 is so a collection box set of Season 1 including that animated story can be released on the 23rd November.
I rather like your choices - but THE SMUGGLERS! its fun! and its ben and polly finding out they actually went back to the past! one of those wonderful moments!! I may be the only one who has this high on my list! oh you got to it just as I typed it :)
Are we just going to ignore the fact that Josh says that galaxy four is going to come and out soon, without any justification, or reason. And then Galaxy four just comes out. I'm onto you josh.
My 3 choices for animated Doctor who Lost stories are 1. Marco Polo so we can finally have a complete first season. 2. Underwater menace like underwater menace it would be nice to see the two missing episode animated. 3. And my final choice is Galaxy 4 hearing what this story is about got me interested in this one i learned about this one on your channel Josh.
No Josh Snares were harmed during the filming of this video. Great insight as always, literally throwing yourself into your work. Hope the hip surgery goes well! :-)
Maybe when they make animations, they could release two cuts on the disk, one fully accurate cut, and an edited cut that is the more entertaining version
There's already a mission to the unknown animation out there on RU-vid. It's done using the same animation process as the other animated releases so looks really professional.
I think Master Plan is gonna happen sooner rather than later. They are gonna split it into two releases to make more money (and make the workload more manageable). We're probably never getting officially animated Mission to the Unknow, but the remake is great, so I don't mind.
When was this recorded? They've already announced Evil of the Daleks. I don't know about Oz but in the states we got the reconstruction and partial animation of The Underwater Menace a long time ago. As for the Hartnell era, I'm only interested in The Celestial Toymaker and Galaxy 4, as they are unique stories. I think the focus on Troughton is because for many classic Who fans he is a favorite.
I was having a bad day until I saw you posted this. Brb, injecting this directly into my veins. Also, if you want to make nothing but videos talking about missing episodes, it’s not a stretch to say that I’d watch them all until my eyeballs fell out.
Thumbs up for your comment on the Highlanders! Tardis crew getting into trouble, companions doing their own things, the Doctor in multiple disguises, shouting ship captain, etc.!
