A 'live' interview introducing Doctor #7, Sylvester McCoy to PBS audiences in the United States.
Also included in the interview are John Nathan-Turner and Jon Pertwee.
The guy doing the interview was really bad/nervous and Jon Pertwee just seemed to be having fun playing off of that!

"What do you mean welcome? I've been talking to you all night!" That's probably the funniest part of the entire interview. :D

I love how McCoy and Pertwee are sassing the interviewer. He needs to think about what he's going to say before he asks a question instead of spitting out verbal diarrhea. Pertwee was magnificent.

I've just finished watching the entirety of Classic Who. Each Doctor brought something special to the role. Harnell was marvelous as the grumpy but caring grandfather. Troughton (my personal fav) brought humor and an endearing quality that made him immediately likable. Come Pertwee, the Doctor was suddenly an action hero you believed could defeat any foe. Baker, Davison, Baker.. they all helped develop the character. McCoy quickly became a fav as well. Despite a pitifully low budget, great show!

TJ Higley I would say "because of," rather than "in spite of" a low budget. The fact that they couldn't get away with big explosions and special effects all the time forced them to write quality stories to keep the viewer engaged, and the fact the cast had to be limited forced the individual characters of the story to be more developed since the viewer was going to spend a lot of time with them. Necessity is the mother of all invention, or innovation, in Doctor Who's case.

This clip makes me wonder if there's an interesting now-never-to-be-told story about the relationship between JNT and Pertwee; Pertwee seems to take great pleasure in reminding JNT in front of an audience that his first job on the show was as a lowly P.A. ...

This was made about the same time that I met Pertwee, McCoy, and John Nathan-Turner. They were touring the U.S. with the Doctor Who Exibit. This was in 1986, just before McCoy started his 1st season as the Doctor. They were all a delight to meet!

Sylvester was a great doctor. Definitely best dressed. Though his first season wasn't marvelous (most Doctor's aren't) he was amazing!!

Yes! As a fellow member of SMAS I totally agree! Sylv in this video is, oh I don't know...cute?, adorable?, endearing?, charming?, delectable?. Hell all of these apply. OK I said it and I don't care who knows it. I just love the 7th Doctor and Sylv McCoy! So there! PFFFT!

Horrible ? Hell no, he was wonderful. Well yes, the 24th serie is to forget but after that he did a wonderful job and added so much in the personality of the Doctor !

'Round the Sylvester McCoy Appreciation Society, this clip (and part 2 of the same) have now become justifiably infamous for its "sheer unsurpassed overwhelming adorability"...or rather, that of the Seventh Doctor therein. (Not that I would know anything about that, of course... ;)

Poor old Patrick Troughton. Does anyone know if he ever met Sylvester McCoy?

The show was already put in balance by the BBC before season 24. I don't think the last McCoy's series were the main reason for the cancellation. Beside, I definitely think that series 25 and 26 were pretty good and right in the "Doctor Who classic spirit". But whatever...

JNT was a Producer? I think he never left 1980 with that outfit. He didn't know what the Doctor was all about.

Honestly, asides from "Happiness Patrol", "Remembrance of the Daleks" and "Battlefield" I find those last 2 seasons to be annoyingly shoddily-written and largely nonsensical thanks to the whole "experimental angle" crap they pulled that ultimately got the show canceled by alienating the last of it's fan base.
