Doctor Who Review - Image of the Fendahl 

I think the big finish audio "island of the fendhal" achieves what this story was trying to do a lot better

This serial stayed with me as an impressionable kid of 6-10 years of age when it showed in Australia. When I went to nostalgically search for old Dr Who episodes this one and the Seeds of Doom were the two that had stuck with me. There was something deeply creepy about the female transformation, and the esoteric connection with the skull, as well as the dark ceremonial aspects with the pentagram.

K-9's absence in this story is because he was a late edition, Chris Boucher wasn't familiar with the character so they decided to leave him out of most of the story, the following stories had writers who were familiar with him

The change from campy fun to gothic horror makes more sense when you learn that before hinchcliffe left he commissioned and approved some of the stories for this season, like this one and fang rock. Similar to letts with the rest of season 12. All in all it’s very atmospheric and fun story

I had only seen this story for the first time a few years ago, and i love it! Its a bit out of place in season 15 with it’s dark gothic horror tones. But that’s why i like it! Not perfect but bloody good anyways. But how did the doctor get out of the locked store room in part 2? Who unlocked the door and was nowhere to be seen?….clara? 🤣 8/10

Perhaps not a classic, I loved it on original transmission … perhaps the dark tones were made lighter so as not to creep out the target audience (children, I was 12 back then). I hope you love the next adventure, it’s my favourite of that season ….
