I thought back in 2005 that this was an outstanding episode, and I still think so now - it’s a real shame that Paul Cornell, who wrote this and Human Nature/Family of Blood, didn’t contribute more scripts to New Who. The premise of the episode is very similar to that of The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith in SJA, and is just as emotionally affecting. Shaun Dingwall is excellent as Pete, and Billie gives one of her best performances. I also like the fact that the stakes are raised so high, because it shows the viewer why it is so important that Pete does sacrifice himself and makes his actions all the more heroic. A real gem, and one of the highlights of the Eccleston era.
Thanks for your comments on this terrific 1st series with Chris Eccleston. I don't want to rag on Tennant but it irks me the OTT love for him and his silly running around episodes. To each their own. Chris Ecc. & Peter Cap. any day for me. Ha! Enjoy :-)
Another very enjoyable episode from a very solid season. You are right there isn't a dud episode this series, they are all of a very strong standard. The Doctor and Rose work very well together and Rose's family feel believable. The moments with her Dad are lovely.
I've known that these creatures were called "Reapers" since I first saw the figure on Amazon in 2010, but this video is the first time I noticed that their tails are shaped like scythes!
Someone, I think Erika from Verity podcast said she was struggling with the series up to this point, then when she saw this described it as "bigger on the inside"!
