It always amazed me that either: 1. They just have a giant Leeds stamp for some reason. 2. London was destroyed in a Nuclear explosion, and someone took the time to make a giant Leeds stamp.
@combogalis
@combogalis 8 месяцев назад
Stamps aren't exactly hard to make, and having a stamp for each location makes everything go much smoother so whoever's checking paperwork can just look at the giant stamped words and direct people properly. Saves way more time in the long run.

One of my favorites. We know Catherine Tate can kill at comedy, but this episode her range is amazing including the dramatic elements. And the Wilf scenes where he realizes the British are making "labor" camps like he fought against in WW2 is so heartbreaking.
@Dularr
@Dularr 4 года назад
Even more interesting the UK had labor camps for hundreds of years. Boer War, World War I and World War 2 all had UK labor camps. Even using the term concentration camps.

The thing I love most about this episode is the fact that, despite Donna having never met the Doctor, she didn’t need him for her moral compass, that existed before him when she was still in “Shouty Chav” mode. Really think about that, can you imagine Rose in...”Rose” being that selfless? No, that’s something she learnt travelling with the Doctor. It’s another testament to her fundamental strength as a character, and why these different layers to her cannot exist without the other.
@Zomdra
@Zomdra 4 года назад
I disagree about Rose, she was a good person from the start too, she didn't need to be taught to be selfless by the Doctor any more than Donna did. Even in "Rose" she risks her life to save the Doctor and the world. As ever, I don't know why people seem to have this need to make out that Rose is/was this bad person somehow.
@overlydramaticpanda
@overlydramaticpanda 3 года назад
I honestly don't think the Doctor would ever choose someone who was not a fundamentally good person as a companion. We see time and again how he deals with people who fall short in that regard, starting (in NuWho) with Adam - he demonstrates multiple times in "Dalek" how selfish he is and the Doctor only brings him along for one trip at Rose's insistence...where he again proves to be selfish and so he is promptly abandoned. Rose, on the other hand, demonstrates her selflessness in the very first episode multiple times, to the point where in that episode it's actually *the Doctor* who is the selfish one: starting with her concern first for her mother, then for Mickey (even as the Doctor admits he never once thought about what the Autons would do to him) and ending with her saving the Doctor's life through putting herself at risk. To reiterate, she risks her own life to save someone she barely knows. Is she also capable of occasionally being selfish? Well, at the end of the day she's still a 19 year old human with all the failings of character that come with that. *Of course* she's occasionally selfish. So is Martha. So is Donna. So is Jack. So is Mickey. So is Amy and Rory and Clara and Bill and plenty of Classic companions too. So is the Doctor. But at their core, the one thing every single one of them have in common is that they are good people with strong moral compasses. Travelling with the Doctor doesn't *give* them that moral compass or the selflessness that goes with it; they're invited to travel with him because of it. The Doctor merely improves and allows them opportunities to demonstrate what's always been there (both the good and the bad) and what they themselves possibly couldn't see given the limited nature of their normal lives.
@combogalis
@combogalis 8 месяцев назад
You are fundamentally misunderstanding the characters if you think any of these companions would act that way. The big difference is that Donna was never meek toward the Doctor. She always called his dubious choices into question and loudly protested when she thought he was wrong. That's not to say they never questioned him, but they did generally follow his lead and rely on him much more.

The episode that I've been waiting for you two to react to has finally arrived. I'm so so glad I decided to watch you guys! You really bring a smile to my face whenever you upload a video! Also, fun fact: The Fortune Teller is played by the same actress that played Chantho in Utopia! Edit: I literally added the fun fact mere seconds before I heard you say it skskkskkss Brand new fun fact: The Time Beetle is actually a homage to a 3rd Doctor story from the 70s called "Planet of the Spiders", in which Sarah Jane Smith is possessed by a giant spider on her back that came from the planet Metabelis III.
@matthewt1772
@matthewt1772 4 года назад
Apparently the actress who played Sarah Jane had a phobia of spiders, and could barely stand to have the spider prop on her back. So naturally, the crew kept up coming up with excuses that meant she had to wear it between takes...

Another great review from you two. I really love you. And i wish you would one day review my favorite mini series. I read the book almost 30 years ago and loved it. Still got it sitting on my bookshelf. And for maybe the first time ever I have to say. The adaptation is better than the book. The Series is Good Omens with David Tennant (yes THAT Tennant) and Michael Sheen PS: For some reason I were sure you already had reviewed it. but since I can't find it on your video list. It must have been something I dreamed up 🤣

During the Runaway Bride scenes. Ken Livingstone was name-dropped. It is true that Ken was London Mayor during The Runaway Bride and when Turn Left was being filmed. However, by the time of this episode's airing, Ken Livingstone had already been unseated by his Conservative opponent. The name of the Tory victor? Boris Johnson
