The 10th doctor was more human than most doctors being very vain and a large ego, but at the end he died doing the right thing not saving a whole planet or the whole universe he died saving one old man. I just think that’s beautiful

It may seem vain, but it honestly isn’t. He knows he can really help people. It’s self confidence. But it’s ultimately selfish. Especially faced with Wilf. So he realizes it’s wrong. And chooses Wilf.

He is also the least human too. The Family of Blood ending shows.... he's a monster, when he needs to be. I always found 10 or Capaldi's 12th the most (and least) Human. I can't wait till they get to Capaldi.

1 was always angry and very "im older therefore i demand respect" 2 was "shut up idiot." and would say "well yes, i knew that, i was testing you." 3 was sexist. Both the actor and the Doctor. In his own words in a BBC interview "Im the doctor, the role of the companion is to be seen and not heard, not unless she is singing my praise or screaming for help. Im the mother hen in that regard, protecting her virtue under my cloak. Yes come come, my dear." 4 was just a mood they slowly humanised more and more over time.

Yeah the last ten minutes of this episode I just sob, starting from those first four knocks all the way to "I don't want to go". Just knowing that Wilf is the Doctor's end, and how much Wilf cares for the Doctor, it breaks me. All Wilf wants is to help the Doctor, and for him to be the reason he dies? The cruel irony of it makes the Doctor's choice to save Wilf that much more poignant. It's sad and sweet all at once, that the Doctor dies for this one old soldier, his last loyal Companion.

Little nugget: when the Doctor gives the lottery ticket to Wilf and Sylvie he mentions that he bought it with a quid that he borrowed of Geoffrey Noble. Geoffrey was Donna’s father (Sylvie’s husband) who was seen in Donna’s first ep. The character of Wilf was created to fill the father role for Donna after the actor who played Geoffrey died from a terminal illness. It explains Sylvie’s reaction. The doctor used time travel to give Donna’s dead father the chance to secure his daughter’s future. Love that nod.

So, the scenes on Galifrey are taking place "the day before" the Doctor wipes everyone out to stop the war. The war is timelocked so neither side could use time travel so there is no "when" this is happening. This means that the Doctor is damning them all to die a second time by sending them back knowing what he was about to do.

to answer your question about timelords, not every gallifreyan is a timelord it’s only a select group of gallifreyans. Also timelords are very isolationist and don’t usually go around the universe on their own, the doctor is kinda unique in that way, thats one of the reasons he stole the tardis he wanted to see the universe and the timelords weren’t letting him because their strict policy on not interfering with the timeline.

57:01 Some time after my Rekkai reacted to my initial comment I posted a second trying to clarify what I was getting at, but I was a bit slow. Original comment: "The Doctor still possesses the Moment. He will use it to destroy Time Lords and Daleks alike" someone on the High Council says. That's in the future from the Time Lord's perspective at this point. They are trying to prevent that. Clarification: My point is, the episode does not contradict what the Doctor previously said about Gallifrey and the Time Lords being destroyed. It just hasn't happened yet at the point in time where we see them.

Just a Classic WHO lore nugget: Time Lord society... There are tiers. There are those that reject being Lords of anything and live off the land: The Shobogans. Then there are your standard citizens, Gallifreyans. Kids have been called "Time Tots" in the Classic series affectionately by a Time Lord, but Gallifreyans go to the Academy, join 1 of I think 6 Chapter Houses (This is 1970s lore so predating that other UK franchise I refuse to talk about any more) and at said Academy they get educated and become Time Lords. All of that said, the moniker of Time Lord(s) does get cast over the whole species at times, usually by outsiders, and Time Lords don't deem it important to correct anyone or educate them on how their society works cause it's nobody's business but theirs.

The Time Lords weren't still alive relative to the Doctor's timestream. He had killed them all and the entire Time War was locked in a bubble so that no-one could travel in or out. Given the way that the Time war worked (involving a lot of time travel-based weapons) that means that the time war's effects affected the entirety of the history of Gallifrey. This means that it is not possible to travel to it or interact with anyone involved in the final parts of the war. Rassilon got around this by seeding the drumbeat in the Master's head through time back when he was a child; knowing that he ran and hid from the war, effectively putting himself out of the reach of the timelock. Up to this point in the show, the Time Lords are not still alive anywhere that the doctor is capable of travelling to. He also does not want to try and breach the timelock as that would release the now battle-hardened and bloodthirsty Time Lords as well as the Daleks at the absolute height of their power. TL;DR: the Time lords are not still alive in any meaningful way and the Gallifrey that the Doctor remembers fondly pre-Time war is now gone forever.

The 9th doctors final story was him facing down the Dalek emperor. This episode, the 10th doctors final story, has him face down the other wartime leader: President Rassilon. In the classic series of Doctor who Rassilon was the founder of time lord society who controlled time itself. He died before the doctors time but just like the master he was revived to wage the time war. It shows how far gone the time lords were in the war to the point where the controller of time itself was willing to destroy his creation to win the war. Anyway good luck with the 11th doctors era. Matt smith is a fan favourite for a reason, he makes an immediate first impression!

18:34 it's so crazy and I remember getting chills for this. If the time lord who refuses to use guns picks up one after he finds out his people have returned, that's how you know it's bad news. Heck, the news made him more triggered than seeing a Dalek 😬😬

I am so so excited. This was an amazing reaction. Full of Emotions and you’re right, the hat tips at the end are a perfect way to wrap up David tennants era. The score for is absolutely beautiful also. Welcome to the Moffat Era of doctor who. The first 4 seasons have been a wild ride in itself, and there’s so much fun to come. Glad to see how much you guys are enjoying this ❤

The Martha/Mickey pairing bugs me too, but moreso because of the trope of 2 people of color HAVE to hook up. 🤔 Also taking her off the market for you Rekkai, sorry my man! 😜 Really glad you enjoyed this, one of my favorite episodes too! Just great. Gotta love Wilf, And Tennant, great acting, but for me John Simm really does a Masterful job too. Him showing the madness of the Master but also a nugget buried deep of who he was before Rassilon sent that signal back to mess with his mind. There is a small part of him that's still normal, and Simm plays it really really well! Looking forward to the 11th Hour!!

A bit of irony with The Doctor telling Rose she's going to have a great year, since she skips a lot of it thanks to him. :D For those keeping count, The Doctor has died due to radiation thrice (3, 10 and 9, if you count time vortex energy), old age once (1 ), forced regeneration once (2), falling once, (4), crash landing in a spaceship (6 and 8 ), poison once (5), and getting shot once (7). Not going any further than that for now.

This was a fantastic end to the RTD era. I thought the way The Stolen Earth finale was epic with the way all the loose ends were brought back together was incredible but this went and topped it. Having Wilf as the de facto companion was genius. Superb chemistry between both actors and boy did he tug at your heartstrings. The fact the Doctor got to say goodbye to all his past friends was sentimental but lovely and oh my lord that last scene with him crying at Donna’s wedding … there’s a reason why that’s a meme 😢 and before you know it, BANG here comes Matt Smith! Can’t wait to see how you feel about the next season. 🫢Spoliers! Great reaction as always. 👍🏻

So... the Timelords are locked inside the Time War, alongside the Daleks, but The Doctor did go on to destroy his planet and them along with it. From that point in time (The Timelord's point of time in this episode) he hadn't yet, but the Timelords knew he would so in a last ditch effort they did what they did in this episode to try to escape. So yeah the Timelords are alive in the past, but the entire war is time locked and it's said to be impossible to break into or out of it, which it isn't, but it's extremely difficult to the point where The Doctor can't or doesn't want to for fear of the consequences. But no, from the current point in time we see, the Timelords are all dead and Gallifrey is destroyed. It's like if a loved one you had died; if you could travel into the past you could see them again, so they're still alive in the past, but in your present they're dead.

That meme of Wilf crying when The Doctor leaves, will never be the same when you see it. It will have even more weight when you uses it from now on and isn't that beautiful? !!! Also, David and Georgia named one of their children Wilfred, talking about giving a big honor back to this man, this can count.

About the Gallifrey thing, the Time War is time locked which means the Doctor can't go back in time to it, and they can't come forward to get out of it. So from the Doctor's perspective he did indeed destroy Gallifrey, but because of time travel it exists in all times past, present, and future, but only in the Doctor and Master's past. The only reason the Time Lords got out is because of a loop hole, which would have created a Paradox, but the Master shut it down.

Just so you know, the Timelords were time locked during the war so they and the Daleks couldn’t escape and destroy things in different times. But in the doctors timeline, he destroyed all the Daleks and the Gallefrians to end the war. So what you saw was them reaching out from the “past” (according to the doctor’s life) from the time lock to try to get out of the lock.

IMO David Tennant is the best actor to have played the Doctor. All of them, especially in the NuWho era where the style allows more emoting, are very good, but he really is outstanding. Interestingly, one of the differences in the Moffat era is that we spend significantly less time in London.

We didn’t get to see you respond to “I don’t want to go”!! Look up the words to the song the Ood are singing. It’s in Latin and it’s about the doctor. Like at the end it says “Vale” which means “farewell”, 10 times because he’s the 10th doctor. 😭

Loved this final episode of the David Tennant era, so many wonderful performances and emotional moments (especially with Wilf) and all the goodbyes. You cut out 2 important sections in this edit - Donna getting a lottery ticket (which the Doctor bought with money borrowed from her father) and 10's "I don't wanna go" (which is controversial among fans). David Tennant was my favourite doctor (with Christopher Eccleston a close second) although the next episode "The Eleventh Hour" is one of the strongest introductions to a new doctor. David Tennant has continued to be very successful in many other roles after Doctor Who. My favourite post Who David Tennant roles were in Broadchurch and Des where he played a very different characters than the Doctor. (In Des, he played a real life serial killer.)

Can we talk about Syntells reaction to Matt smith? LOVED IT. Like I know he doesn't like spoilers or looks ahead and to see him react to Matt with fresh eyes from house of the dragon and seeing Matt take over was everything!! Hats off lads absolutely loved the reactions so far. Ill be honest with you. You've not seen anything yet and my god you will see the difference in that budget money in the first episode of the next series. CANT WAIT.

When wilfred cries and tell the doctor not to die, and tells him he’s the most wonderful man. It always gives me lachrymosity issues. Bernard cribbins was a comedy actor from the 60’s. He was always on celebrity game shows later on, with other minor BBC celebs. But when he became Wilfred, an entire generation who didn’t know he existed, suddenly loved a sentimental old man.
