I read a detailed summary of the book series about Anthony and Kate, and it's a different setup from the Netflix series. In the book, Anthony and Edwina were never engaged. The first kiss between Anthony and Kate happened earlier. There was a bee sting with Kate, Anthony was helping her, and a group walked by "catching" in a compromising position. To protect Kate's reputation, Anthony declared his love for her so people would believe he was actually courting Kate instead of Edwina. Edwina was cool with it because she saw they like each other. Kate was insecure and worried that Anthony would never truly love her. Anthony is a little wishy washy at first, but eventually, they get on the same love page. For TV, I think Netflix and Shonda's version works better for TV because it shows the angst, the emotional conflict with the story for Anthony, Kate, and Edwina. If they followed the book, they conflict to get to love wouldn't be TV interesting but for a book, using the imagination and feelings from words, the book version is best for the book - if they makes sense 😊
I think the show did Anthony and Kate well, while the outcome of their unspoken desires coming to light was chaotic. The 2 of them had a lot of restraint. In the book, Anthony kisses Kate while he is still pursuing Edwina.
Season 2 has brought out so many polarizing opinions & views that I just love it. I might not agree with all but I can understand everyone’s reasoning. I love art that brings that out in the consumers
Penelope was pretty much stuck in this.. The queen might have seemed generous in offering what she did to Eloise, but it's a ploy to get Lady Whistled own as her pawn essentially. She has the power to take her down if she doesn't comply. But Whistledown's influence (in the show) is only achieved from being cutthroat in her gossip. The drama of her sharp tongue taking people by surprise. So Whistedown actually can't do otherwise now. Eloise is caught in this with the silent threat of being taken down, so Pen does the only thing she can and makes it clear that Eloise is NOT Whistedown. Anything less damaging wouldn't have convinced the Queen. And you can tell that she did it with that intention, because she didn't make things worse by simply saying it was radicals rather than being with a single (working class) male alone in a questionable part of town. (Which would have truly ruined the family and Eloise all together.)
I think Kate gets the bulk of the criticism cause Edwina is her sister. She her loyalty is suppose to be different as to Anthony who only chose Edwina cause she was named the diamond. I personally like Kate and Anthony. They are better suited for each other and they met first. I think the only issue here is by the time she realized she liked him it was after he was already courting Edwina.
Though I don't agree with the majority of your reactions to Kate, I must say it has been entertaining to watch you two. I think most Kate fans love her flaws. No one can justifiably say they think she is perfect or without fault. It just seems that Kate was never given grace the way most of the other characters like Penelope have been given. I'm so interested to see if by the end you will be happy or mad with how Kate's story ends or even if you think she is worthy of her ending.
I mean they lied to Daniel about who Armand was when he was pretending to be Rashid. Plus Louis refused to admit that he saved Lestat when Daniel called him out on it. Daniel is allowed to be skeptical and snide for them trying to control the narrative but Louis is also allowed to get his lick back in as well.
In regards to the mom comment: The Bridgeton's aren't off limits to Penelope. It's just that Penelope's mom doesn't think any of her children are pretty or good enough to be with a Bridgerton. She's basically like you're aiming to high
We have a season finale live-stream tomorrow evening 5/22 at 6pm PST/9pm EST Can't wait to hear from everyone. See you soon ru-vid.comMUcurY5QyQ4?si=XONYvr_DeKMW-NYZ
Also bc of all the hate kate is getting from the show, in the books Edwina was interested in Anthony and they did go to the country but the part where the bee stung Kate, Anthony panics and starts sucking the venom out, they are caught being alone and in a questionable position and were forced to marry. Edwina was NOT MAD or UPSET about it at all & ended up finding a match with some other guy and Edwina was actually very happy & supportive of Kate & Anthony
Kate’s hair became more loose or free as she started to admit her feelings/feel more feelings/emotions. She’s always been very “uptight” and finally little by little letting loose so to speak
I love that you guys are reacting to Bridgerton, I love how much you love this show. However I have never heard so many opinions that made me want to pull my hair out 😂😂😂😂😂😂. With that being said, it's always constructive to hear a variety of opinions but at times....you guys are wayyyyy off 😂
Penelope wrote the best thing she could for Eloise. It’s scandal but not ruinous, which saying about Theo would have been and Eloise put herself in the risky position of going there, so I didn’t think Penelope should have had to reveal herself and ruin herself and her business. I know you haven’t enjoyed this season, but I hope you’ll watch season 3. I think it’s really lovely so far.
@@SyntellI’ve enjoyed seeing your thoughts. I prefer season 2 to 1, but I do have issues with it that mean I felt bad at times rooting for the obvious endgame. Thankfully I don’t have that problem in season 3. I look forward to seeing what you think.
Whistle down said Eloise was associating with political radicals because it’s less damaging than unchaperoned with a young man. This is enough to convince the queen it’s not Eloise writing but gives her room to come back. It was the only option she had. It’s a smart play for pen to make. It’s a bad situation.
Lets put some of that "you guys are wrong for that" energy on Lady Danbury in Queen Charlotte with her getting with Violets dad... A married man. Where was your "morality and ethics" then?? Sounds like playing favorites and hypocrisy to me...
Honestly, it's weird to me to watch a show about true love and then to see you actively root against it for the whole season 😅 It's a bit disconcerting, because you're clearly not even trying. And I'm really really really curious to see if you'll think the same in s3 and what that will say about a lot of things.
I was surprised too about their take on this season and the Kate hate but I must agree with them too some point. When I look at it not from the "it's kate and anthony love story" point of view, the plot is really fd up. Anthony proposed to Edwina even though he had feelings for Kate,Kate is Edwina's sister who she supposedly love more than herself, yet they both make steamy eye contact, touching each other, almost kissing, Anthony professing his desire for her.. The only thing I disagree with them is their hate towards Kate but not for Anthony. They were both guilty in this, even more so, (if I dare to say) Kate was holding back her feelings more than Anthony did.
@@karolina285no one is saying that what Kate and Anthony did was right. But it's just great storytelling. They're both traumatized, and they're carrying that with them and making mistakes because of it. I greatly empathize with them, and I wish everyone would at least try to do so as well, or at least try to understand them, and not treat them (I mean Kate.....) as the literal devil everytime they so much as move the smallest toe.
I love Syntell & MK reactions. The commentary is always clever and indepth. I have watched other posts with Team Edwina reactors -I enjoy the back and forth. I have to admit, it was difficult to watch this reaction. I need some excitement and joy.
@@ilanakidiadia3181 Towards the end, he says Edwina was right and Kate was "foul." No mention of Anthony there. Just back to Kate. If it isn't that deep, why respond to me at all?
When it comes to both Penelope and Eloise . I understand both sides. I do think that Penelope’s intent was not meant to be malicious and mean and I do think that she resolved it in the best way possible that she thought she knew how to. I also think that people don’t seem to understand that there is no guarantee that the Queen would even believe her even if she were to come forward or better yet write it in the next whistledown column. Especially since after she threatened Eloise about being lady whistledown. If I were the queen I would’ve thought that it’s rather convenient and highly suspicious that after accuse and threaten Eloise that it comes out in the latest lady whistledown column that it’s actually Penelope someone who is close to Eloise.
I said it in another comment and I'll say it again: Penelope can agree to go into a room at the palace and write a fake gossip column. She can get the print shop guy to corroborate that she came in the guise of a maid with a fake Irish accent and made arrangements. She can have Mme. Delacroix corroborate that she saw Penelope on that side of town in maid's clothing. She can show the Queen all the money she has stashed. Instead she just says, very self-servingly, that the Queen will never believe her and _doesn't even try._ And the Queen is offering a pretty nice deal to Lady Whistledown, actually.
@@HuntingViolets she already gave her word to Madame Delacroix that she would not implicate or involve her in anyway. Another thing is even if she were to find another witness to corroborate her story. Which is a long shot for two reasons. One being that if she were to have someone be a witness to it that would implicate them into aiding and abetting a very notorious gossip writer that has caught the Queen’s attention some for the wrong reasons. Another being that Penelope went through great pains to disguise her voice and make sure no one saw her . Which worked until madame Delacroix obviously. Also anyone can make a fake gossip column it’s not that hard . Which the Queen probably knows. She’s not dumb. Also having money underneath your floorboards doesn’t automatically meant that you’re lady whistledown and it’s certainly not damming evidence either
@@kiana960 She would not be implicating Mme. Delacroix. Note I say that she could corroborate seeing Penelope on a side of town Mme. Delacroix would have a reason to go to but that Penelope would not. The print shop owner or manager saw and talked to her (no doubt on several occasions, and I mentioned the fake Irish accent), and there is no doubt he would recognize her. Not everyone could write a gossip column in Lady Whistledown's style. And where does teenage Penelope get this money if she is lying about getting it from the column? But it is not just one thing; it is the evidence of all or even a few of these things taken together. You think Charlotte would refuse to believe the evidence that someone who is also confessing brings because you prefer to think that. The fact remains that Penelope _could have tried_ and would have done so if she really cared enough about her friend. And for what? To avoid accepting the Queen's reasonable offer.
@@HuntingViolets what you’re suggesting doesn’t matter because Penelope would still be implicating someone either madame Delacroix or the manager into what’s going on with her and the Queen . And that’s even if they would agree to be a witness or provide testimony/evidence.
@@kiana960 Penelope doesn't try. Doesn't try one thing. Ever. The Queen is looking to work with Whistledown, not punish her. Writing the column would even be enough. *But Penelope doesn't try anything. The point is she chooses not to try and hurts her friend. Her go-to is to use Lady Whistledown to solve her problems, and that is a problem for other people, but **_it's a huge problem for Penelope herself._*
What about when Penelope threw Marina under the bus (or carriage wheels) instead of just going to Violet, Anthony, or Eloise to let them know about her pregnancy instead of ruining her in the ton?
If she had done that, would they instantly believe her theory? After all, she isn’t paid attention to much at all. Not by her family and not certainly by even Colin or Eloise.
I can't believe Marina didn't figure out that Pen was LW after her secret came out. So few people knew about her pregnancy. I was disappointed when Pen did that.
@@garlantyrell6368 Violet didn't want Colin to marry Marina anyway, so the idea that she would reject it out of hand is really reaching. Eloise isn't going to think Penelope is lying. Anthony wants to stop the wedding too. She is paid attention to by the Bridgertons. She is practically another child. And Penelope's excuse can't be "No one would believe me, so I'm not going to try" over and over. She doesn't know no one will believe her. She just doesn't want to try.
@@HuntingViolets Well, her thinking that nobody will believe her instantly is pretty understandable. After all, her own family treats her like shit her whole life 24/7 and don’t take her seriously at all. So of course she doesn’t feel like anyone else will believe her because of what her family says.
Edwina was deadset on Anthony because she wanted the fairytale wedding/marriage. And of course, how could she not when everything was lining up for her to have it? Marrying for love during those days was a rarity; the Sheffields only cared about Edwina marrying an Englisman because they were still salty about Mary running off to India. They would not have given a flying fuck if Edwina didn't marry someone for love. Neither did Lady Danbury, who reminded Kate that most marriages of the Ton were business arrangments. And Mary... Mary's just there in the back. Vibing. But Kate did care. She wanted Edwina to be the exception (much like the Bridgertons). The Sheffields money was only ever for Edwina and Mary -- the only two people in the Sharma Family that they have actual blood relation to. Kate was never a factor to them. And Kate was more than fine with that, that's why her plan was always to go back to India. She kept this a secret from them because knowing the truth would've influenced Edwina to say yes to the first Englishman who looked her way because she too would've wanted to her family taken cared of. Anthony himself was only marrying Edwina because she was the Diamond of the Season and by extension the ONLY suitable person who checked off all the boxes in what he was looking for in a wife. Could they have grown to love each other? No, because of two quotes from Anthony -- both of which he is saying to Kate before and after the Bane of My Existence speech: 1. "I am a gentleman, my father raised me to act with honor, but that honor is hanging by a thread that grows precarious with every moment I spend in your presence" 2. "If I wed your sister, it will bind me and you together for eternity and I will spend every day of my marriage wanting you, dreaming of you. Dreading the day until my last thread of honor finally snaps." He's literally telling Kate that if he were to marry Edwina, he would cheat on her WITH Kate. Eventually. Didn't matter to him if it was years, months, weeks, hell even on the wedding day itself, something was going to happen in their future and it would've been even worse. That being said, Shonda and the writers could've done better with this love triangle. In the book, Anthony and Kate are forced to marry because Anthony gets caught sucking the venom out of her breast after she gets stung by the bee. I like both storylines, but the show's was way too messy, especially with how the season ends with Kate and Edwina not reconciling on camera.
Edwina is not called "Miss Sharma." As the younger sister, she is "Miss Edwina," so the servants would know whom he meant by "Miss Sharma." That can only be Kate.
@@dancemachine1919 Now you’ll notice it every time you watch a well-done Jane Austen adaptation. 😉 Jane Bennet is always “Miss Bennet” and Elizabeth Bennet is always “Miss Elizabeth” (except when Mr. Darcy is proposing, because it shows that he sees her as an adult in her own right).
@@ilanakidiadia3181 on at 38:29 and I still stand by what I said. During the actual reaction she seems like she is biting her tongue. I didn’t want to see that happen because I truly agreed with her about the way this season was handled.
@@loveatfirstglow24 completely agree with them and you. But people can't accept differents opinions they're to involved in this serie and they've tried to gaslighting them for being truthful. So i can understand why they're biting their tongues.
@@loveatfirstglow24I like the casting, the chemistry is great and I did read their book so I watched it knowing Kate and Anthony are supposed to be together but ...the whole triangle plot, going behind Edwina's back, wedding fail,it all went too far,was way too messy..
@@ilanakidiadia3181Nah it's the hypocrisy for me. They had no issues with Lady Danbury making it with a married man.... No "morality" issues there.... It's favoritism is what it is.
Despite being a Kanthony stan, I really appreciate getting an alternative view of this season’s characters! The livestream was great fun, too! Hope you’ll do another after Episode 8
Just go to Charlotte and make the deal, Penelope. Mikel-Claire is right. Penelope can agree to go into a room at the palace and write a fake gossip column. She can get the print shop guy to corroborate that she came in the guise of a maid with a fake Irish accent and made arrangements. She can have Mme. Delacroix corroborate that she saw Penelope on that side of town in maid's clothing. She can show the Queen all the money she has stashed. Instead: Oh, the Queen might not believe me; I guess I won't try. She says herself she only has to work with the Queen. Screw Penelope.
Nah. Eloise is in the situation because she thinks she's above society's rules, despite multiple people telling her to stop for her own good. And Penelope has no way of knowing if the leniency being granted to a Bridgerton would be extended to a more scandal-ridden family.
See, the Queen would just reveal Whistledown and let everyone else seek their revenge unless Whistledown allies with her. All Whistledown has to do is play ball with the Queen. A very forgiving offer. Unfortunately, Eloise is not Whistledown.
I look forward to these tbh even if we have different opinions Its nice to see how people take in different aspects of the same media.I also think its interesting how much you guys respect the queen as a monarch, because I love Charlotte as Charlotte and within her own story but I love how brave penelope is for standing against the monarch!
Although (a small point) Charlotte is not the monarch. Even King George is not the monarch. The prince regent (future George IV) is ruling in his stead because the king is incapable. That's why this is the Regency era. If Penelope were really brave, she would go to the Queen and confess, I think.
i understand queen charlotte being mad lets not forget how penelope used to write about george and call him crazy and all kind of names. and we all know you better not touch george 😭
@@karolina285 in the show if i remember well in season 1 she called him crazy and a bunch of other things , it was very very insulting and disrespectful , related to his sickness
