Aye - Moffat signposting (in big neon lights) the big twist right there at the start of the episode, using some sleight of hand about Stevie Wonder to distract us, so we don't realise. He's an evil genius.

River’s reaction to seeing Rory right at the start of this episode (when she says it’s her birthday - hint hint) is one of pure joy and happiness. I think she’s just so happy to see her daddy on her birthday. There are so many hints towards her being Amy and Rory’s daughter throughout Series 5 and 6 but they only make sense in retrospect. It’s very clever. In Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone, she’s unusually concerned for Amy’s well-being throughout the entire two-parter. River goes to Amy and Rory’s wedding, ostensibly to help Amy remember the Doctor, but also so she can see her parents getting married. There are so many more but I’m typing on my phone and it’s tough LOL! 😂

I remember being surprised that River was so kind to Amy in Time of Angels. Not that River's cruel or anything, but in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead we saw that she's very tough and doesn't waste time coddling people in a crisis. So when the Doctor asked her to "comfort Amy" (or whatever he said) and she immediately went to hug her and comfort her, I was really surprised. Obviously, on second watch, it made complete sense and I loved it!

I think there are several clues as to who River is, as well as the “it’s my birthday” and, of course, “the only water in the forest is the river” lines. There’s also the “I speak baby” line - River makes the same gesture on the Doctor’s finger as he did on baby Melody’s. But my favourite is a really long, slow burn. Ten, on meeting River in the library tells her “I point and laugh at archaeologists”. Eleven, on first meeting baby Melody does EXACTLY that!

I think my favourite clue to River Song's identity is in the 1st episode of Series 6 when River's picking the lock and says "Well, it's locked. How's a girl supposed to resist?" it echos how Amy responded to a lock in episode 2 of Series 5 "Never could resist a keep out sign" and proceeds to pick the lock with a hairpin. like mother, like daughter.

I love the "it's my birthday" line. Also, when you know the future, sometimes you have to keep it to yourself. Imagine your very presence being built into the timeline, but also threatening the timeline if you make a mistake. PS This is also a pivotal moment in the series.

A classic Moffat payoff to lots of groundwork. Amy Pond was called Pond entirely to set up the River reveal. The only water in the forest is the river (so of course Laura would translate Pond as River) "Congratulations Mr Pond"/"That's not how it works"/"Yes it is" - so that Amy would stay Amy Pond not Amy Williams I was hoping you'd enjoy this one.

Moffat Mind Fuck! Amazing. No-one does twists and reveals like Moffat - you don't see them coming but when they do, they make sense and you an see the little clues scattered along the way. (Melody Pond - Rive Song, the only water in the forest is the river, it's her birthday etc.)

The acting in this episode was also incredible. Amy's scream "RORYYY!" was pure terror. And then The Doctor delivering that deep "I am so... sorry". We heard David Tennant say he's sorry a lot, but never feeling like he meant it. This was so much, much more meaningful.

This is one of my favorite episodes of television, period. It's a huge surprise that was gotten to honestly. There were no lies or deceptions to keep it hidden, just the lack of information and spoilers to preserve the timeline. It's also great to go back and see the affection in River's eyes and her protectiveness when she's with Rory and Amy, and also see the little breadcrumbs dropped along the way.

"the only water in the forest is the river" from 6x04 is the final puzzle piece that falls into place. the bread crumbs throughout the season alluding to this reveal is really a thing of beauty on a rewatch. from how protective River is of Amy when we "think" they meet for the 1st time in the Angels episode, and all the way to the Pandorica, earlier in River's life than the Angels ep. and yet River doesnt introduce herself to Amy

Naw this Silurian is not Alaya, she's a different one. It looks like her story is covered in supplementary material(I think one of the books or comics?). He name is Madame Vastra. Yeah, back in The Doctor's Wife, Idris/TARDIS said "the only water in the forest is the river" but didn't know what it meant. Because being a time machine she doesn't always get things in order. All we knew was it would be useful later. :)

I feel so sad about that soldier who just wants to meet him as this legend. The way she sees him as this great warrior and the gentle warping of how the doctor himself wants people to view him and how so very far he's come from that. The way his acts are changing him from being how he wants to be viewed as the helping hand to this hand of fury instead is a really cool detail.

I think my favorite little nod is when Idris (I think that was her name, the TARDIS as a human) tells Rory, “the only water in the forest is the River”. He says that will be important later. Then when they are explained in the episode the soldier that makes the fabric said they dont really have a name for Pond. Then at the end it is translated. Oh it’s one of my favorite little clues that you would never catch on a first watch.

River gives it away earlier in the season to Rory. She tells him that every time she meets the Doctor she knows him more, and he knows her less. The first time she met him was at the time of her birth. She didn't know who he was but he knew who she was. The last time she meets him is the time of her death and he really has no clue who she is but she knows everything about him.

his hard drive crashed and the video got corrupted beyond recovery. they spent a couple weeks trying to figure out a way to salvage it. theyve taken steps since to create layers of backup so this doesnt happen again. they couldnt predict a hard drive dying. until it happens to someone, most people wouldnt even know thats a thing that can happen

She knew all along who Amy and Rory was. Go back to Day of the Moon. Amy was in River's room in the Orphanage. She had Amy's picture. Then fo back to Time of the Angels. She was very familiar with Amy when she entered the Tardis. Also the Tardis can see into the future.

Wooph what a great point to look back and see all these pieces and especially with something like the pandorica the way the doctors enemys can come to see him as thks chaos god striking calamity and then vanishing away. The thing about his singular nature and the tardis being his only home is theirs no way to really strike him once he's gone it's crazy he can just walk off stage after he's busted your civilisation with little repurcusion so it's interesting to see the lengths of people trying to counter that

Yeah, but the thing is, and this is what I always disliked about this plot, is that the doctor "bringing chaos" and "busting your civilization" would only be seeing as bad by the bad guys themselves. The Doctor isn't a treath to you unless you're doing something bad like the daleks or Cybermen. Other than those scenarios your are safe and are getting the Doctor, the man who heals and shows you the Universe, cross a moral line and you get the Timelord that fought and survived the Time War and that will put you in your place.

Well, the Silence essentially are the bad guys, from our (and the Doctor's perspectives) at this point in the arc. Aside from them, I don't think it's that far-fetched that his reputation may not be what we'd expect for people who haven't met him, or who don't know him. The guy wiped out his own people and the Daleks to end the Time War, and every time there's trouble, he's right there, smack-bang in the middle of it. Some people would be suspicious of someone like that. Then you've got people like Lorna, who have seen him in action, and while she knows he's not bad, I completely believe that some of the people caught up in the riptide of some of his adventures would see him as some sort of warrior, or soldier. I mean, he was one in the Time War.

he's got an excellent one. the lack of video was due to a hard drive crash. completely corrupted the video. hes got a new temporary one but could do with a more spacious one. what he needs more than anything is ram
