The complete lack of dialogue regarding this season has been really worrying but completely understandable. On tumblr the discussion lasted maybe 3 or 4 days after the finale before people went back to reblogging gifs from earlier series (I’ve barely seen any from season 1). At my local Doctor Who Society meeting this past weekend we didn’t rewatch the latest ep together like we usually do and we talked about it for maybe 10 minutes. I’ve been in the fandom for my whole life and I’ve never seen anything like this. Even bad finales usually inspire some level of passionate discourse. The near universal deflated disappointment in the fandom is awful.

Sutekh brings you his gift of … wrong episode number and title in the opening credits 😜 Curse that Sutekh and his tricks.

🤣 Definitely Sutekh's fault not Troy having been at a con all weekend...

Not sure if you noticed but the 115 title card was in the intro instead of 116. Also it felt like the series was written as though it was a 13 episode series and we just only saw half of it. The next series is probably the other half.

If they extended the runtimes of each episode to an hour or around that, rather than around 45 minutes, and having the finale be like around 70 minutes like some of the older specials and finales. Then I feel that's what would help the season, I think it would help with the story and the cohesion of each episode, you could add a few extra Tardis scenes as well as more scenes with Ncuti and Millie to really flesh out each character and their relationship.

16:22 the only thing i love about the midnight release is that it means i can easily rewatch the episodes as its scheduled to air on bbc one after, cuz i'm lazy af and can't be bothered to rewatch a 45 minute episode willingly once i've seen it if there's not a designated time for it ahahaha

I'm pretty sure that the tie into the Third Doctor story was the Time Windows, I think tying into The Time Monster.

With leaks and filming photos I was watching them when season 1 first started filming, I recognised Triad when it was said in the Giggle as the thing on the bus Ruby had got off and when she was in the cafe in 73 Yards I knew Kate was about to come because of her clothes! Glad I stopped paying attention to them quite quickly!

The Doctor falls was a great finale IMO.

Yeah this is an absolutely mad take, dr who magazine, dr who tv - that finale is in the top 10, and top 15 on IMDB Weird hearing opinions of those who came to who in the era of RTD1, it’s such a weird outlier and there’s just such a disconnect with fans of that era

To me… One of the main issues with this season was that every single episode… No matter how good it was or how bad it was… Seemed like it could do with another 5 to 10 minutes. In most cases they could’ve done with time in the tardis… But there were also episodes where they needed more time for the plot… Like I loved 73 yards also but it literally doesn’t make any sense. I still don’t understand why everyone was so hung up on what the old lady said to make people hate Ruby… It was so clear that it was some kind of magic or something to that effect because they just hated her fully and completely immediately… but then once you find out that was Ruby, it’s like why could Ruby do magic lol… And how did she visit herself in the same timeline in order to go back and change everything or whatever she did if she didn’t have the tardis? Honestly, after that episode, that was when I most felt like she wasn’t human. I really liked it as a concept, and I loved the tone and the acting…. But the story itself needed a lot more to actually make sense. I was thinking it was gonna pay off at the end of the season… But it didn’t. A lot of people are thinking that that leader will come back into the story… I agree… But I still don’t understand how Ruby can make it snow and do magic and shit 😂 The one thing I will say, though is, I sincerely think that if it had had an out of the park finale… Like if it had paid off in such a way that everybody was amazed and everything clicked into place… I think we would’ve all loved this season. The problem was that , it was mostly good, but it was very disjointed, so without having something unifying at the end it made it feel like a bad season overall. And all of the clues and stuff didn’t feel like a misdirect… Since there was no payoff… They felt like a slap in the face… Like a “ha, ha ha, you thought…”. it wasn’t like a thing where I was happy to be wrong you know? Alternatively, if they didn’t make it such a big focus of the season… And they just made it like one or two episodes… Ruby’s story would’ve been very sweet. It’s honestly a lot of credit to the actors though because they really did a great job considering there was no character/relationship building whatsoever. The one thing I can’t get over… that I’ll leave as my final note lol… is that if you watched only the Christmas special the church on Ruby Road… And then the two part finale… You would not have a single question. Not one. Like if you told someone it was a three part series, they would probably believe you. That’s how disconnected the main story was from the rest of the plot and episodes. For me, Doctor Who needs to either be very serial and story driven (like Amy’s wall or impossible girl Cara season), or very character driven and episodic, and then it can tie together in the end (like bad wolf s1). This season was neither and that’s the best way I can describe what was wrong with it in the fewest words. Love the podcast guys ❤ love from NY

I miss the Sunday morning chats ☕️ regarding the season and RTD referencing the two season arc. A general audience would not know that. As a season, this one was more a “chuck everything against the wall” thing. Incoherent and lacking a through line. PS Andor is three, three parters, so…

Honestly I think from mystery to character it lacked depth and direction. 3 episodes, 8, 9, or 12 episodes, it didn't know what to explore or how to do it. That's why it's so hard to 'fix', it's hard to know what it wants to be long enough to know how it could be that instead. As it is, it's an unclear shallow mess. Season 2 can reboot stuff and maybe improve it, but I don't see how he writes the finale the way he did and yet would have the foresight to go "but payoffs will DEFINITELY matter more in season 2" Filming it in advance gives me no hope it'll be anything than the same attitude that wrote s1. 6 episodes of Gatwa, but two are the finale. We have 4 episodes to get to know Gatwa. One he runs away from a god, one he steps on a mine and can't move, one he abandons Ruby to flirt, and one is space babies.

I loved this season of doctor who. I do not feel that it is fair to compare to other seasons. Where there were Many more episodes. I also do not see the logic. In comparing it to another smaller series, that's completely unrelated to doctor who. I mean, I suppose you could say what's better doctor who or star trek, but what's the point of that? They may be a similar genre, but they're completely different type of stories. Meanwhile, you're comparing this season to a show. Just because it happens to have the same showrunner?? At that point, you're not comparing the quality of a series. You're comparing the quality of the consistency of a showrunner, and that's not the same thing. As far as i'm concerned, this season had one fault and that was not enough time. It needed more episodes. In America, it's pretty common for the first season of a show to have less episodes, and for the following seasons to have more episodes. And i'm hoping that this is the case for doctor who. If in fact, they are considering this a first season. I listen to you, say how brilliant this episode was or how amazing that episode was or how you loved The characters are the writing in 1 or 2 or 3 of these episodes. There were only 8 of them. So if you loved that much of them, it should be a higher rating for you. Personally, I wasn't the biggest fan of space babies although I do appreciate it as a standard doctor whose style episode, But outside of that, every episode of this season was brilliant. And considering there were less episodes in the series, that is an amazing track record. The finale was not as strong as we all hoped. It would be, but it was still good doctor who. And to rate a whole season by the season finale? Let's go ahead and say the entire series of a game of thrones sucked, because the finale sucked. But we don't do that, because we understand that one episode doesn't Take away the quality of an entire series. It can leave us with a bad taste in our mouths, but that doesn't mean that we rate it less as a overall series because it didn't end the way we wanted it to. One of my favorite stephen king books of all time is under the dome. It had amazing characters of really original. Interesting storyline everything about it was very cool. It had one of the worst endings of any stephen king book i've ever read. Did I hate the book? No. I just appreciated everything about it until the end. I wish it had a better ending, but I would still recommend that book to anyone. I would recommend this season of doctor who to anyone. I have recommended it to people who have never watched doctor who and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Maybe your expectations were higher than they should be, Or maybe you're just never happy unless it's David Tennant In the roll? Whatever it might be, it's really discouraging to have to go all the time on social media to try to enjoy the success of a great season with people online that I trust the opinion of and all I hear is constant negativity against my favorite show on television
