This uhh... this aged very well, given how the 15th Doctor has a similar moustache, similar short hair, similar bright shirt under a longer coat and checked trousers.
Insane how much Ncuti's costume and variants seem modeled after this. Short hair, mustache, long brown leather coat, trainers, tartan trousers, brightly colored jumper. Color changing TARDIS interior for music montages with the teased 'jukebox'. I wouldn't even be surprised if there's similar banter to this as well.
This skit was startlingly prophetic, really, given that Colin's "regeneration" into Sylvester went almost exactly as this one did (TARDIS gives a sudden lurch, Doctor falls to floor and regenrates out of sight). Funny how Peri seems to have forgotten that she's American.
@@tubian323 Well, except that Lenny had based his outfit on pretty much every Doctor who'd gone before, though the leather coat did eerily prefigure Eccleston.
He acts like a combination of the Second, Fourth, and Sixth Doctors, and thus, acts like a slightly meaner version of the Eleventh Doctor: In other words, he's a perfect Doctor!
Rose Tico Enthusiast The Eleventh Doctor does share some similar personality traits with the Sixth Doctor, particularly when they're both angry and how they deal with certain situations, such as any period of grief. It's subtle, but it's there.
Mackenzi Lambert it's even more amusing considering the Female Doctor in the Curse of Fatal Death was the THIRTEENTH Doctor, quite the coincidence I do say so myself!
Not to mention they were both blond. But, it was less of a coincidence, as you might think, as only females were auditioned for the role, as the thirteenth doctor.
This is back in the algorithm because Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor has been revealed to be wearing a brown leather jacket similar to the one Lenny Henry is wearing here.
Perry "Doctor, I have never told you this before, but I find you incredibly attractive." Doctor "Perry this is a children's program." That didnt seem to stop Amy Pond.
Neither Rose Tyler. Or River Song. Or Clara Oswald. Or even... _ew_ one incarnation of the Master (so much so that he deleted himself-- or rather his future female self out of spite) .
I just realized Ncuti's outfit is a mix of Lenny Henry's. He takes the red jumper and yellow trousers and combines them into orange, and even reuses the leather coat. That's awesome.
Remember, there is a multiverse in Doctor Who that the Doctor refused to interfere with. Any iteration of the series, whether parody or not, should be considered canon. ....even Rowan Atkinson's
@@sadako24 Er.... common sense would suggest he mentioned Theresa May because she was (and still is, barely) the current Prime Minister when that comment was made! Just like "Thatchos" was mentioned in the show because she was Prime MInister back then. Or perhaps you think he should have compared Harold Wilson to Pitt the Younger for no good reason?! ;-)
@Doctor Who Why Where and When - Well, three used a hand crank in "Death" to open the outer doors when the TARDIS lost power, but he didn't use it on the console.
First time I've seen this, very British, very funny, I liked the running joke that the assistant kept doing things the Doctor normally would, tho after Clara that's not a joke anymore is it? :)
1985... Peri : "Doctor, I have never told you this before, but I find you incredibly attractive." Doctor: " Perry this is a children's program" Peri : "Maybe they will take it off the air for a while and we can get to know each other better" Doctor: "Sounds good to me, fancy a dance" 1993 The Airzone Solution... Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant in bed together >_>
Joanna Lumley and Lenny Henry both proved their take on the Doctor. It comes down to the actors selected for the role. Jo Martin short time on screen overwhelmed Doctor 13, telling us there are superior choices to play the iconic role.
Lenny's the greatest! I remember when I saw this at a Media/Fantasy/SF convention when I didn't know who Lenny was at the time. I laughed my head off and became a solid fan ever since. RIBITTTT!
I just love it when parodies, (which word, might have been a better choice than 'spoof'. Just saying)... when parodies 'predict' future Who. The Curse of Fatal Death had a female Doctor beyond the thirteen incarnations. Lenny Henry's Doctor having primitive electro/mechanical additions to the console. Like Tennant's. A Doctor actively telling a companion to "shut up" is much like Capaldi's... Oh. You viewers out there, thought I was going to compare Lenny with dear Ncuti? Why? I mean they both have great comedic talent...
Wait so this was recorded in the 80s? But they were so accurate about the year 2010! XD and this is a parody guys its supposed to make fun of the series there are modern spoofs that are similar sometimes better sometimes worse, but this was funny and wasn't all that mean hearted the jokes were not too critical and most of the people who rage over this need to realize that no fandom is perfect and this kind of satire is actually a great way to honor the show
They predicted the budgetary cuts of Classical Who, the Crash of 2008, the Cyberwoman, other foolish Cyberman expies, Ninth Doctor, Tenth Doctor and Fiftheen Doctor all simultaneously.
The show was in real danger of being taken off the air in 1985. For a real “treat” look up “Dr. in distress” a, “we are the world”-style song that was made to raise raise awareness of the show’s impending cancellation. It’s so hilariously bad that even its creator has expressed regret over it.
Imagine if Lenny had actually been cast as *The Doctor* back then, it probably would have ran a lot better than JNT's spiteful running of Colin's tenure.
I never saw this. Thanks for posting it. It's really funny. I've seen other comedic, doctor who spoofs. I just turned 55 , been a who fan since 1977. Keep rocking 😎, doctor who.
Lets see: Female Cyberleader ✅ Black Doctor ✅ Mass Unemployment around 2010 ✅ Doctor in Leather Jacket✅, Doctor and Companion Relationship ✅ Doctor Who going on hiatus for years to months at a time ✅ Alright who stole the TARDIS and wrote this 😂
That's the grooviest, manliest non-canon incarnation of the Doctor I have ever seen. And we get the likes of Idris Elba and Richard E. Grant playing that role, so that speaks volumes.
I wonder if Doctor Who took the direction of this parody did back in “1985” how would it have turned out... and I remember watching the show back then.
