Amazing. I think he might just have absorbed a little bit of time energy from the vortex. Great actor, great voice, and made millions of children happy on Saturday nights.
Because Tom Baker is a total gentleman who appreciates the fame playing Dr Who brought him after a long time struggling to make it as a good actor. He admitted in interviews he was playing himself as eccentric Tom and he did it wonderfully for over six years. Top bloke!
The look of total bemusement on Baker (the real one !)'s face is fantastic - and what an excellent sport he is for allowing Culshaw such an indulgence.
I think Tom kind of came into his own when Jon Pertwee died. He seemed to be in the shadow of the showman Pertwee when he was alive, but when Pertwee died he realised he was now the elder statesman of Doctor Who and assumed that mantle.
+Matt Maloney I agree. It is so wonderful to see Tom totally embrace Doctor Who again. It has caused me to get back into the show and the classic series again. I am looking forward to picking up some of Tom's audio adventures from Big Finish and will be getting some more of his classic adventures on DVD for Christmas.
@Jack Riding Scoucers are definately the nicest people in the country. As long as your not a nonce or a tory we don't care. You're nice to us we're nice to you.
Tom Baker's Dr Who voice is - it must be - everybody's favourite as it's so fruity but, for me - and I'm sure for many others - his 'actual' accent and way of talking is a delightful revelation. Not in a WTF way, but in a 'This is also my actual real accent', way. If we met, we'd drop the 'well I never' -isms and be 'us'. Tom has a proper old North-End accent, which I can relate to.
Except for Peter Capaldi. He supposedly did Tom Baker impressions a lot on set. Even slipped moments into his actual performance as The Doctor. But yeah, Culshaw is the absolute best as Baker. I hope he continues with Big Finish for a long time. I wouldn't even mind if he played him properly in the show at some point, like David Bradley or Richard Hurndall as The First Doctor.
Tom is simply amazing. Even back in '71 playing Rasputin in "Nicholas & Alexander", you knew he was someone to take note of. Long Live Tom Baker! Long Live New Ironing Boards!
Britain, Britain, Britain. I love Britain so much that everyday I sacrifice a child in honor of it. So thank the Lord, who incidentally is British, for the great things he has brought to this land.
Jon Culshaw is one of the best, and Tom Baker great for a laugh.Actually met Jon Culshaw once by chance at a petrol station and chatted for a few minutes.Very modest, and a decent bloke all round. Drove an immaculate 1970's classic car, but not a sporty one though-rock on Jon! an immaculate 1970's Ford
Born in Liverpool, yes. John Culshaw is from just up the road, in Ormskirk, Lancashire. As am i. Although i haven't lived there for many years, i still have family there, and pass through it five days a week, on my way to and from work. Tom Baker is an absolute legend!! A true national treasure... \m/ (:o)
@@AvengerII Pardon? I don't understand your meaning there. They wondered whether Tom ever used to have a Liverpool accent, they didn't say that he does have one now. Try actually reading the comment before jumping to conclusions.
@@trustmeimthedoctor5749 1) It's a joke. I'm sorry you too young to get it. 2) You come off as EXTREMELY arrogant to me and I would hate to be in party of thin-skinned people with you because you'd case a BLOOD BATH with your attitude. 3) I'd get a new screen avatar because Jodi is proving to be the WORST DOCTOR ever cast if you can even call her portrayal an original take when her character shows ANY personality. She seems to be imitating Matt Smith or David Tenant at times and doesn't bring anything new to the role. People already had a feeling beforehand the writing would suck with all the agendas and Chibnall as the showrunner but the casting has sealed the fate of this as likely the worst run in Doctor Who history. Colin Baker is kissing her feet!
"The ingenuity, I think, is quite admirable" "Such is the rich fruityness off our sumptious tones" "There lies a certain poetry in a builder's bucket... Ehahahaha!"
He does have an amazing voice... And this Culshaw can imitate it quite well! (Sorry, not from the UK, hadn't heard of the good man before watching this clip.) Baker would've made a great Dumbledore. Commanding, but kind. Doctor Who forever!
That was hilarious! Tom Baker has such a great sense of humor. You could tell he thought that guy was terrific! Oh, that was good. I especially liked the construction worker scenes. Well done, Jon!
@Lee86Cr 1. Put Jon on the left side of the sofa. 2. Put Tom on the right side. 3. Give them the same book to read 4. Let them start at the same time. 5. Sit in front of the sofa at ~ 2m distance 6. ???? 7. PROFIT: Stereo 4th Doctor reading a book to you
And Tennant's with Davison's daughter, so yes, *diplomatic* would probably be the operative word. Tom's my favorite, then Tennant, then Troughton. At least what I've seen that's available of Troughton. Boo! on the BBC for wiping so much!
Wouldn't it be cool to have a port-a-loo on a work site that looked like the Tardis? Apart from this, has there ever been a Dr Who spoof made where a port-a-loo was the Tardis (or should I say "Turdis")?
It says something about how mad Tom Baker is that after Romana divorced him she went on to marry Richard Dawkins. I mean seriously, if she can deal with that guy ("What? You're taking Sunday off? Where is your freedom of mind, woman?"), what the heck would marriage to Tom Baker have been like?
+wratched Funny thing is Tom and Lalla stayed friends and I think there good friends again. In fact Tom and Lalla are recording some new Big Finish Doctor Who audio adventures together. So I guess Tommy wasn't that bad after all. Plus Tom's marriage to Sue Jerrard has been going strong since 1986. Maybe Sue understood Tom like Elizabeth Sladen did and he appreciated that.
+Dylan H I think leaving a show and character he cared a lot for was harder on him then most people around Tom realised. But like I said Sue seemed to have helped him tremendously and getting back into doing different roles I think gradually helped quite a bit.
I guess, there's just this big deal made about Tom Baker being mentally unstable and unpredictable, difficult to work with, etc. Instead of just eccentric and creative. I suspect it has something to do with how boring every actor to play the Doctor since him has been.
I havn't watched this in a long time but oh how I love it... It's one of the rare times where Tom isn't too sure what to say or how to react, it's just so funny. Also love the face he makes at 2:20 when Culshaw says Romana, and after that Tom just looks so sweet when he seems to be thinking back on her and saying 'we were happy'... Also love the ending of going back to the old job as a builder's labouror, that's excellent.
So the Doctor managed to fix the decades old problem of the chameleon circuit causing the Tardis to be permanently disguised as a Police Phone Box but still managed to be late for his job as a builder....that actually sounds about right.
Hello, I was born in '67. I can remember watching JP as the Doc, on a b/w telly...or maybe the show was filmed in b/w? I did love Tom as the Doctor. Reaches into pocket, and pulls out a wrinkly brown paper bag..."Would you like a jelly baby?"
I was born in 68. Earliest DW episode I remember was from the Green Death (I mainly remember the giant maggots) and Planet of the Spiders (Probably where my arachnaphobia stemmed from) And we didn't get a colour TV til about 1980. I remember watching Hammer House of Horror in colour !
this clip is da shit...!!!! (sorry, i hope that means good & great! the thing is i keep seeing this type of lingo all over the net and, being of an elder generation, take it to be a wholeheartdly positive thumbs up statement.. just thought i'd "join in the fun" so to speak.. if i'm wrong.. apologies 'cos i do like this.)
