I think they are real goblins because from what I understand, unless I'm wrong, when he casted the salt at the edge of the universe and invoked a superstition he not only brought the toy maker into this reality but he also brought other mythical creatures into existence.

Just a heads up. I'm at the start of your reaction and her being on a TV show is actually a reference to a real life show called "long lost families" where they take adopted people or people from similar situations, and through their DNA, records, and other such methods, they try and find their parents or siblings or family

Davina was the host of the original big brother 20 years ago. It's funny cos She played the Davina droid in series 1 with eccleston in the finale. But yeah I believe she has a real show called Lost Families that Ruby is on.

I'm glad we are introducing some fantasy elements. There's only so many invasions, star base colony or ship in trouble...I can watch

Plot wise for me it felt like we had entered a new "looking glass" whoniverse since the toymaker. Unreal fantasy creatures are popping up that don't fully exist. Even the doctor can't explain the goblins, most people can't even see them. Then when the goblin king dies the ship just vanishes. It's all very dark fairy tale, I guess thats the new direction.

Russell T Davies spoken vision for Doctor Who, fantasy rather than sci-fi, not for me.

@@TheAtual Doctor Who hasn't been hard Sci-fi since the Hartnell years and even then it was only for future set episodes. It's more space fantasy or science fantasy since they use terms and stuff that make no sense. "Reverse the polarity" etc is actual science sounding mumbo jumbo.

The writers have embraced time paradoxes as not needing justification in NuWho (and possibly in Classic too)... Series 5 relied on a paradox to get the Doctor out of the Pandorica. The Goblins could be thought of as existing slightly outside of time i.e. they *can* create paradoxes in our universes by being only partly "in" it (chopping and changing through possible worlds)... that's what I decided "riding the time winds" (or waves?) meant...

5:08 that’s a very interesting theory.

Honestly. This is such a good episode. I can already see Ncuti Gatwa being as good a Doctor as David Tennant.

Why did you say Ncuti would be the last Doc then?

Davina McCall is well known you should remember her voice from Season 1 on the Station as the voiceover for Big Brother on eviction, which she actually hosted. she is currently doing a show that you see in this where she tries to find parents. I believe Mrs Flood is going to be The Rani. she called it a police box from 60s then calls it Tardis at end. i belive she thought like the Doctor thinks that They are the last timelord.

It's still sonic. Plus, Amy Pond had a sonic probe, but the Doctor insisted it was a screwdriver. Just saying.

Another Scottish doctor and Ncuti has to wear a stick on moustache as the doctor because he struggled to grow facial hair after playing a teenager for four years on sex education

In other reactions/reviews people are screaming River Song (Pond/River/Flood) but all of them forget that this is an almost full reboot.. old fans are ignored for new young people .. People may say its a risk but they view it as a now or never for a big BBC franchise.. I think alienating old fans will be the downfall as young people will find this cringe. We'll never get any connections back unless it becomes big on Disney... Which I don't think it will... Though I liked this episode (much more than the specials) I think Ncuti will be our last Doctor..
@MurkMovies

yeah i also wouldn't be surprised if ncuti is the last doctor to be completely honest

It appears to be performing very well so far, enough to get a few more years at least. Third for the day in overnights (and by far the highest scripted programme even beating a finale and a premier), and the 60th specials overall did extremely well in the 18-34 demographic that the BBC is currently trying to make inroads with. I’m not saying it’s great or you must like it, that’s personal preference. But personal preference, or even mass appeal, aren’t what decides which programmes get renewed. Commissioners have more complex metrics and targets based on their content strategy.

@@MurkMovies Ha. Sylvester and Paul McGann were considered "last" Doctors. Took a few years, and guess what's back??? Bit contradicting that you watched all of Modern Who, started some of Classic Who, enjoyed this episode, and now saying that Ncuti could be the last. Just saying.

Sorry, the whole thing is ridiculous, goblins, goblin king ‘‘Jabba the hutt’’ this is fantasy rather than sci-fi. Science fiction is about science and technology, space exploration, time travel, and extraterrestrial life forms whereas fantasy is about magic, sorcerers, witches from folklore and mythology. For me this isn’t Doctor Who, as a Christmas special it’s sort of OK-ish, Millie is passable as a companion, Ncuti Gatwa doesn’t do it for me, if I’m totally honest I don’t like fantasy. I can take fantasy in a sitcom like Ghosts, but I like my sci-fi to have themes like in Blake's 7 and classic Doctor Who. I’m not sure whether I want to watch this incarnation of Dr Who, I stuck with the Jodie Whittaker era even though I think it’s cannon that the Doctor’s a male and the stories were in most part rubbish as far as I’m concerned. I think it’s so removed from what Dr Who should be for me, that I’ll leave it to the younger generation that Russell T Davies and Disney+ are aiming for.

Doctor who has always blurred the lines between fantasy and sci-fi. If the goblins were called goblinites from the planet villium you wouldnt be complaining.

Doctor Who has always been science fantasy. It was only really ever Sci-Fi back in the Hartnell years when the future episodes were designed to get kids interested in that. That all started slowing down with Troughton and out the window entirely when Pertwee was the Doctor. It's been science fantasy for a long time.
@TheAtual
@TheAtual 7 месяцев назад
@@chazo1367 I think you are probably right and whilst I’ve been willing to go along with the changes over the years, I started watching Dr Who back in the very beginning, it’s moved too far now for me. I detested Jon Pertwee’s doctor more than Jodie Whittaker’s, the only doctor I hated more and I still dislike was Peter Cushing because even as a ten year old it was too childish and it messed with the ‘Hartnell’ canon. My wife got into Tom Baker and my son Sylvester McCoy which I enjoyed with them, so I’ve accepted change over the years but Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa, like Cushing have messed with the canon too much and it’s just not Doctor Who anymore for me I’m afraid.
