The entire River Song storyline in chronological order, from her birth on Demon's Run to her tragic fate in the biggest library in the universe... For updates on future video projects, you can follow me on Twitter / dialconfession
Molly Crombie the scene where river as the astronaut is forced to shoot the doctor on the beach, while Amy (who was pregnant with baby river at the time), Rory, and a past version of river stand and watch
"Left me, like a book on a shelf. Didn't even say goodbye." IMAGINE. Her husband, her true love, they just spent 24 years together, and he doesn't recognize her, and then leaves without saying goodbye. I'm sobbing.
Well to be fair to 10 he didn’t know who she was. Although at the end he realized who she was, he didn’t have that emotional connection to her like he did to Rose. And him not saying goodbye isn’t too far off of tens character.
I feel like Stephen Moffat is one of the few writers who used the Time-Travelling aspect of this show to its fullest extent. He set this story up all the way back in the Russel T. Davies era.
i always always always loved that they had the line "one day i will look into that mans eyes and he will have no idea who i am and it will kill me" and the episode she is introduced he doesnt know her and she dies i thought it was amazing continuity whether on purpose or not
And the last time The Doctor see her he actually did take her to the singing tower, to the restaurant he made for her...Knowing it’s the last time he gave her the exact Sonic Screwdriver she needed to survive
@@toby1248 actually they haven't ..Moffat said back when she appeared in the library He was planning to have River for 2 to 3 episodes, all that happened later wasn't in plan. He changed his mind later so typically Rivers story was written while the show was running..
@@BlueMoon56832 based on the writers when River appeared first time in the library she was meant to do 2 to 3 episodes, nothing more.. Moffat changed his mint later so actually nothing was planned
How i hate these nausea-causing levels of Plot Holes and Nonsense. There is literally no 'normal' series of events how this Fix Point can/should happen. There is literaly no reason why the Doctor should let him self get shoot by the Astronaut. Also, putting much effort into creating survival-expert River Song and then putting her into an Astronaut Suit that negates all her abilitys is laughable and nonsensical. Stupid Silence. I like this Fix-Point Buisness, but it's virtually impossible to execute it worse than here. Wow, impressively bad writing. The Doctor has no reason to die but he for no reason wants to die. It's nonsensical. And the Silence is just incompetent as heck anyways. Well, everyone is.
The only thing is. I just noticed that she asked the 10th doctor if they had done "Crash of the Byzantium". She did that with the 11th doctor and she has pictures of all his faces in order. So surely she would know that he would have NO idea what the hell "Crash of the Byzantium" is.
@@victorialikhacheva6766still doesn't really explain why if she knows that the tenth doctor is before the eleventh doctor, then why did she think he would know what "crash of the byzantium" is.
@@RGerrard12 When that episode was made, Steven Moffat assumed Tennant would stay another season. This would put the Byzantum in Tennant's last season. Unfortunatly, he left earlier than expected and caused a plot hole.
This whole idea of two time travelling lovers, meeting out of sequence is _so_ poignant, _so_ romantic and _so_ incredible. It shows up here, and also in _The Time Traveller's Wife,_ in which we see _him_ meeting _her_ for the first time, in a scene in which _she_ knows _him_ but _he_ does not know _her,_ and then we see _her_ meeting _him_ for the first time, in a scene in which _he_ knows _her_ but _she_ does not know _him._ If not for the _massive_ complications that time travel opens up, this kind of thing would make you wonder why it isn't more ubiquitous.
And after that what's with the horrendous photoshop and 70's green screen shite!! now was that a minisode or just something the loader put together !~!? at any rate still an interesting little history of RIVER MERRY CHRISTMAS !! AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
This was HURTFUL. Am I the only person who lives in hope that because River was uploaded into a computer that she might be downloaded back into a body some day? I would prefer the same actress because Alex Kingston is a goddess but I'll take what I can get.
Reanne i can see the master or clara doing that as either a sorry in the masters case or a thank you in claras case hell even bill could do it or testament because bills not dead
Reanne Nah, doubtful. It would defeat the point of River, and what made her cool - as you slowly went back through the episodes she mentions, you also see the extent of her changes in reverse order. Would be cool to have a short scene where they meet River while she was younger, and didn’t recognise the Doctor.
Sean Da Best We kind of already have, when she was Mel. I believe it was the episode 'Let's Kill Hitler'. Otherwise she's always known of the Doctor, because Amy constantly talked about/drew her 'raggedy man' as they were growing up. Ergo impossible for Mel/River to not know him at all.
“River you know my name. There’s only one way I could tell you that. There’s only one time I could...” He knew from the start that he’d have to get married...
@@blakecharles4501 which probably he told her at the singing towers and lord knows what caused the doctor to do that, but at the very least it was probably because she told him his name in the library. I love complicated romance stories.
Her scene in Stormcage with Rory It's a Daughter telling her Dad it's her Birthday, that she had a wonderful time. God So much of Rivers story breaks my heart especially when you know more about her.. trust me go watch silence in the library now knowing her, have a good cry

Makes my heart ache every time I see it. River realizing that this is the last time she'll ever see him ... Alex Kingston putting all of River's long, long life with her Doctor into that look is simply amazing. That's why I hated Clara, never could stand her, because Moffat broke his own rules and had the Doctor tell Clara his name. Right here he states, there's only one time he could even be able give his name ...
Jigøku Shøjø But I thought he DIDN'T tell Clara. She read it in that book in the Tardis library in Journey to the Centre of the Tardis. And then in Night of the Doctor, when the graveyard Tardis was converging the timelines in her memory, she suddenly remembered it... At least, that's how I remember it. But I might have missed a snippet of dialogue somewhere.
The fricking fact that Moffat knew that river would get the sonic from the 12th doctor in the husbands of river song SEVERAL YEARS before in the episode, "Silence in the library" with the 10th doctor Is just about the smartest thing ever. Her timeline was planned to perfection in my opinion.
We saw the episodes where her timeline intersects with the one of the doctor, it's still possible she had centuries of traveling and adventures exactly like him, time is irrelevant here.
I hated Matt smith when it was his time but now I watch them back and he was really good . Anything is better than now . Please someone confirm it’s coming to an end and we get back to a proper doctor with proper assistants and story lines
I LOVE the 10th Doctor, 11th Doctor, and 12th Doctor. The 10th never got the time to really know River. And even though the 12th Doctor technically spent 24yrs with River during that one night, 11th had the most episodes with her. Their chemistry was much more evident, and their close relationship makes River's full circle death a lot more heartbreaking. My favourite line by 11th "You are always here to me, and I'm always listening...and I can *always* see you." 😍😍😍
You made me cry! I don't care what folks say about Moffat! He made River brilliantly! Best character of the new doctor! I would have added "Let's kill hiltler!" lol I loved that River too!
I love river, I think she’s one of the best things to come out of the Moffat era. The way you get attached to her in reverse and then you rewatch the first episode she was ever in and get emotional even though first time watching you don’t have the emotional context
6:17 has anyone ever noticed that: the first time River shows the pictures of the different Doctors, she shows the picture of John Hurt. Details makes that show magnificent.
In "The Husbands of River Song", River says to 12th "You remind me of my second wife"... Could that possibly mean that she could return with the 13th Doctor as she could be that second wife River speaks about ?
3 thoughts that get me through hard times: River Song might be the Doctor's only wife, as his children were not Time Lords (as evident by Susan, his granddaughter) River is still alive, as long as the Library database is still there, meaning the Doctor can still visit her at any time in the future. These two together means River might be the first and the last love of the Doctor.
The tragic part of it though is he can't return. That species that eats all organic matter is still in the library. They only agreed to give him and the people there 24 hours to leave. If he returns he'll get eaten.
Their timelines have always confused me but this clears it up a bit. It's quite sad when she's asking him what they've done together and he doesn't even know anything about her. 😢
Someone has never watched the classic shows I see. The very first episode of the show with William Hartnell, the 1st Doctor is travelling with his granddaughter Susan.
Then clearly you have a short attention span if you need constant action to be invested in the stories and characters. You probably shouldn't watch a show like this if that's the case
It's amazing how river came about. The mysterious woman who knew the doctor (Tennant) But not the other way round. And Then You find out it's his future companions daughter. Wow
in The Day of the Doctor Kate Stewart says that Jack gave his Vortex Manipulator to UNIT and they keep it in the Black Archive, so I don't think the one River has is Jack's
I was waiting to see Stevie Wonder playing under London Bridge when that S10 episode first aired. It would have been a great hint, without actually having to show Eleven or River. Alas, it didn't happen. Not that I saw, anyway!
I don’t care who comes along, or who the doctor falls in love with or who falls in love with him, RIVER AND THE DOCTOR WILL FOREVER BE MY ULTIMATE SHIP 💪🏽
River’s story is truly heartbreaking... Every time she meets he man she loves, he remembers less and less about her, until he finally has no idea who she is, but of course on that very same day, she dies instead of him to save everybody. She showed so much bravery and kindness to a man who didn’t even know her, even when she was born to kill him. I can’t believe how crushing it must have been to her... The last episode that river is featured on is almost the other way around. The Doctor has to say goodbye to River because he knows what will happen next. The writer of this entire storyline was so creative and pushed the limits of time travel as far as he could with River and The Doctor. How he seemlessly tied together their two stories amazes me! It is such a cool concept that the more one knew about the other, the less the other knew about them. This storyline is extraordinarily written and creates so much emotion, wether it be sadness, happiness or just plain confusion, yet somehow once you put all the pieces of the puzzle in order, it makes sense and the chemistry is perfect. It’s a shame that the twelfth doctor didn’t get to spend much time with river, but as they said so many times, nothing lasts forever.
I love River as a character. And this video just reaffirms that. My goodness. When you really see things from her point of view instead of his..... It's awful. It's a wonder she didn't become the weapon they wanted. I'm glad that in his life he found someone that understood him. Truly. My dad is a lifelong fan. And he was always iffy at best about River. Iffy about the Doctor ever having relations. Not me. I love it. I love her. I'm so glad they created this amazing relationship. The Doctor can't live to be 2000 years old and not find love. River = Amazing
I was hoping you would include Capaldi activiting River's sonic & waving it around her. I thought he was just showing it off, but when I watched the episode again on BBC iPlayer it occurred to me that he must have been scanning her into it for her future data ghost. I don't know which happened quicker: My mind blowing or my jaw crashing through the floor. 😆
I like them all, i think that rose was for the 10th doctor and river was for the 11th and i think donna was brilliant personally because she didnt have anything romantic going on with the doctor and in my opinion i believed they had that brother and sister relationship and it was funny to watch that!
Nanda Rox: Moffat RRREEEAAAALLLLLLLYYY needs to invest in a dictionary. He clearly has no idea what psychopaths and sociopaths are. Coupled with Sherlock, he seems to think they're just fancy words for 'often acts like a bit of a dick'.
At one point Watson refers to Sherlock's 'Aspergers' (Hound of the Baskervills) when talking to inspector Lestrad. Except the first episode where lady cop is running him down only Sherlock refers to himself as a "high functioning sociopath". Aspergers makes more sense. Also sociopath and psychopath are merely slang terms for Anti-Social Personality Disorder.
@@jamesashlee1784 Nope. I quite like Moffat's writing. It's just incredibly irritating that he's pushing a completely false definition of sociopathy to the public. Since Sherlock described himself as one, the number of teenagers that have tried to get themselves diagnosed with it have skyrocketed. It's just bloody irresponsible of him.
@@somerandomguy2073 He can't decide how the audience is going to react to his writing. That's just teenagers being easily influenced, he shouldn't have to tread on egg shells in fear of how younger audiences would react
My favorite thing on the library episodes is that in first viewing is fun filler. After you watch all of Doctor Who and do a rewatch its the most heartbreaking tragic episodes in the whole show
I hate her ending. The blame is not on Tennant's doctor to leave without a goodbye. The blame is on the future doctors thinking living in a database like a book on the shelf is a good ending for his wife. I don't think River would have choose that ending for herself. That is just sad. She was a Time Lord ffs that ending make her a boring soccer mom
Okay. Now this makes sense. It was hard for me to put the puzzle together but now it makes sense when I watched this. Big thumbs up dude. I love this vid.
Sarah Glover it's consisted of five parts. Bad Night, Good Night, First Night, Last Night and Up All Night. First night and last night are the ones with River in it. They should be on dailymotion.
Ok so.. I really need to tell someone about this, let’s go : I didn’t watch the firsts seasons since a while. What a joy to remember the David Tenant years. And tonight I finally rewatch it.. The library, the beginning and the end of River Song at the same time. And oh man when you know everything and who she is and all that she recall in you…. I juste cried like a baby. And then I can’t help it, I had to come back to this video on RU-vid. The way it’s edited I can never grow bored of this Timeline of River Song. What an amazing character and an wonderful story
i thought i was doing so well until "how long is a night on derilum" and then i just burst into tears. thanks for putting her in her chronological order
Wow, *gorgeously* done. Superb interleaving of audio and visual, as well as timeline presentation. Best I've seen. I"ll include in my mind some of those amazing Web-based adventures she had with 11, as well as hopes for visits to come.
7:55 When we first heard the story in Forrest of the Dead. We pictured the event as romantic when it was actually filled with arguments and sass that somehow fits both 12 and river.
Great job, really; and thanks for having kept the music from Murray Gold, it really is the one that suits best! Amazing work, teared up when I heard Sylvester ♪
