When I started Wegovy last April, I felt bloated, light headed, irritable, and I still felt hungry. I have now lost 40 pounds. My blood pressure is down. My back hardly hurts anymore. I can pick up my two grandkids at the same time. I can also bend over and tie my shoes...something I couldn't do for 10 years. I exercise more (but not crazily so) and I watch what I eat. In short, I feel a whole lot better about myself than I used to.

Wow, that is nearly a pound a day. My doctor was a bit worried that I was losing too fast and I "only" lost 30lbs in 12weeks. Is your doctor concerned at all or just thrilled? I slowed down at 8-12 weeks to 1.5lbs a week and she was pleased with that pace. As you lose, the pace slows but remember as a percentage of your body weight it counts more. Like when I am at my goal weight 3 pounds is an entire dress size. When I was 60 lbs from my goal 10lbs was a dress size, but 10lbs was easier to lose of course. So it balances out.

@doreenhowleyslykhuis2662
@doreenhowleyslykhuis2662 Год назад
I think what some people are missing from this is that these doctors are trying to educate the public (AND other doctors) about additional causes of obesity. I believe everyone can agree for a condition like hypothyroidism, their body does not produce enough thyroid hormone. So patients take a hormone replacement to help regulate their levels to produce optimal health. They are educating us that similarly, some people do not have regulated GLP or GLP-1 , grehlin or leptin levels in their bodies. So because of that, their brain sends incorrect extreme hunger signals and does not send appropriate satiety signals when eating. So because of this, people often will over eat food. These medications help the gut/brain to release the appropriate levels of hormones to help regulate the hunger/full signals. In addition they help your body utilize the insulin it creates by the pancreas better to help control blood sugar. A big issue is that some people have relatively NORMAL levels of GLP and grehlin/leptin and they do not experience on the regular the severe swings of hunger and not feeling full. So they cannot comprehend how other people just can’t stop eating, or make better choices. Because their levels are normal. Because it doesn’t happen to them, therefore it must not happen to others. So they must be making it up and are just lazy, poor decision making people. Once people get on these medications and also another called Mounjaro, they often experience for the first time in their adult lives a feeling of satiety. They are able to stop eating after a normal portion size. They don’t constantly have a signal from their brain telling them to eat. They suddenly realize what it feels like to be “normal”. My personal belief is yes, poor food choices has always been around. But obesity keeps rising even when more people go to the gym now than ever. Our food sources in the US are terrible. Sugar is in everything. If you go to other countries, sugar and high fructose corn syrup and GMO’s are highly regulated or banned. But not in the US. Some peoples bodies have been able to handle the unhealthy food relatively well. Maybe that is genetics …maybe not. Other people’s bodies have not been able to handle the unhealthy effects of our food system and that contributes to the gut/brain issue. Let’s not also forget that poverty and lower middle class also have to usually choose the cheapest food options for their families, so they can eat at least. What costs more….a bag of lettuce or 3 boxes of pasta? Of course the lettuce costs more. Obesity is not a cognitive deficit is the point. There are tons of overweight people that eat better and exercise more than the thinnest people I know. Then there are also of course obese people that make very poor food choices regularly. Yes there is a certain amount of personal accountability we all should have in our lives and health (a lot honestly). But also need to understand where our accountability can be in check….but our hormones are not. Just be kind to one another and stop hating on people that do not agree with you.

The root of thyroid issues go back to your diet. If poverty is the argument, hope you write your senator to not endorse sending millions to other countries, and millions on outrageous spending bills before we take care of correcting poverty stricken areas ability to purchase heathy alternatives, and not lettuce, as it has little to no nourishment.

You’re correct! By my lay person research, these are almost wonder drugs when it comes to America’s obesity problem and all of the co-morbidity problems caused by it. The problem right now is the price and the national shortage to get on these drugs. My guilty pleasure is reality tv and all of the housewives couldn’t stop saying “ozempic”…it was all advertising and influencing. And they had zero weight problem to begin with! Most of anything we see is an advertisement. It’s sometimes subtle, unlike this clear commercial.

@somebodysomething4242 But they work. So it's not propaganda when it works as they say it does. Now, it's different for everyone, but most people DO lose a significant amount of weight. I've had 2 friends drop a ton of weight and health issues, along with that weight, with using these drugs. I am now in a program at my dr office using the generic of Wegovy due to weight I gained being laid up for months with a bad back injury that requires a 3rd surgery, but I have to lose weight to do so. This is going to assist in weight coming off faster because I've lost 14lbs on my own.....but that's too slow. I'm on high power pain killers due to the injury and permanent nerve injury it caused. I'm just done with this weight hanging on while I'm doing the right thing!

If insurance doesn't cover it, your doctor can give you an RX to a compound pharmacy and you don't get the pretty pen set. Instead you get a bottle of it and a box of syringes. My insurance is amazing - I pay for it myself so it should be and they covered it. I fibbed a little on my height to qualify. I think my doctor knew but she pretended well. I am doing well. I am not weighing at home but the first week I lost 9 lbs and I took my 6th dose this morning. I know the weight loss has slowed. I have made efforts to eat a minimum amount at each meal and make sure I get at least 1000-1200 calories a day. I have had side effects but they have been manageable. I know most people gain the weight back but I kept my weight off in my 30s after losing 40- 50lbs that crept up out of nowhere during and after pregnancy. I stayed slim and kept the weight off for 30 years, but I got sick and menopause hit. Vanity is a great health tool if you use it and like most women I am vain. I am the opposite of most people, in that it is easier for me to maintain than to lose weight. Losing is like pulling teeth for me. So I am hopeful I won't gain it all back. I ate a lot of grilled chicken and broiled fish and I weighed everything I ate. I am also writing down what I eat which right now is embarrassingly little but when I go off I don't want it to be embarrassingly too much. A food diary, a good scale, and a grill are good friends when you are in maintenance mode. Best of luck to you. I hope you lose it all and keep it off too. I was diagnosed type 2 in September 2023.Started off on Metformin, which I'm still taking. Doctor offered ozempic but told me due to the worldwide shortage I can't have that right now. Two months later I read online that they're stopping non diabetes from using the drugs and pushing them onto liraglutide instead. This made ozempic available again for type 2's. I called my doctor and requested the ozempic. I had my appointment with a nurse practitioner, who showed me how it worked and what to do about symptoms etc. That was in a Friday morning and I was able to collect the prescription for 0.25mg Semaglutide later that day. I started taking it every Saturday. I'm now on my third week. I started getting symptoms after the second week. I've had headaches and dizziness everyday so much that I had to take a week off work. I'm still not feeling right, but I'll persevere on the lower does for as long as I can and see if there's any improvement.

Obesity can be cured by changing our culture. Bring play back - kick ball, chase, you know, those fun games. Work LESS. Work stresses people out - stress = weight gain/heart attacks. Build gyms, pools, play centers every few blocks so you can walk to fun. Same with grocery stores - small stores every few blocks so you can walk to get groceries. We've all been fooled we need to work so much. We the people have the power to change this.

Social media has made these out to be the devil when in fact, one still has to put in the effort to eat, clean and healthy, and work out. And many people cannot afford to buy all that expensive food. So all the preservatives and additives in food, we have to say that you know that’s a cheaper stuff and that’s what people buy. That’s why we have the problem. I don’t know how the shot is going to work. I hope it works for many but like everything maybe not for all. But I wonder if the insurance companies are going to pick it up the cost that is. Obesity does loot lead to diabetes. And I have lost 20 pounds so far without any kind of shot. In people who already produce a low amount of the hormone, their body will produce even less when using it. Then discontinuing the drug would leave them with almost none naturally circulating in the body for at least some time before the body restarts production. That is a potential problem. But once a person reaches a healthy weight, intense exercise becomes a lot less stress on joints, leading to faster recovery, and ability to develop that healthy lifestyle as an easier habit to keep. There's a few problems with all this. The worst is that now the market is so overwhelmed that Ozempic is no longer available to diabetics who are currently taking it. Stopping Ozempic abruptly is dangerous for diabetics because it leaves their blood sugars uncontrolled, just as if they were to suddenly stop taking their insulin. So right now the nation is buying out all the Ozempic and diabetics lives are threatened because the pharmacies are refusing to prioritize the ones who need it and are currently giving it over to new customers. Another important issue I've yet to hear mentioned, is Ozempic has a dosage limit. When the patient reaches 100 mg it can no longer be increased. There's another drug like Ozempic but it's cost is so much more exorbitant. And it's not guaranteed to work at all. Ozempic may cause weight loss for 6 or 10 months, in my experience, but by then you've reached the dosage limit and the weight loss stops forever, as far as the Ozempic goes. If you discontinue it, studies have shown, you will gain all the lost weight back and much more, as that's how weight gain works. That means you have to commit to a lifetime of this drug. Which makes us guinea pigs sense it's a new and virtually untested drug That means they don't really know what the long term effects are. How many people here knew that Gabapentin is a carcinogen that causes vaginal cancer? How many feel that loosing weight is more important than having cancer? How many people take Gabapentin and their doctor informed then of the possibility of cancer? This drug could very well be a carcinogen. It takes a very long time to determine that, longer than any tests could determine at this point. And that's just one dangerous side effect, who knows what other potential side effects are involved with using and stopping this drug. I learned most of this information thru Google. Anytime you decide to start a new medication you should research it as much as possible. And maybe you would all please protest this deep lack of compassion, the gross unprofessionalism and greed it's taking for these pharmacies to refuse to prioritize their diabetic customers and save aside the meds their lives depend on. The best luck to you all🍀in all that you endeavor.💜

this is stupid. it's a glp1 agonist - mimics a naturally occurring hormone. it's not a synthetic meth like phenphen. the discussion of thyroid issues from mice studies doesn't carry over because the human equivalent dose would be gallons instead of 1mg.. at the end of the day scientists and doctors have asked these questions and studied them diligently during the trials and the answer is that any POSSIBLE issues from taking these indefinitely are not outweighed by the dramatic health benefits of helping obese people lose significant amounts of weight they otherwise wouldn't be able to.

A: The pharmacy is not telling her that “people are buying it for weight loss” because that would require diagnosis codes to be provided by physicians which is not required for ozempic and wegovy, nor is it legal for the pharmacy to tell some rando why someone else is taking it B: wegovy is the exact same med as ozempic, just a different “brand name”. It is fda approved for weight loss. If people are on the med for weight loss that means they are using in line with fda guidelines and it’s no one’s place to say they shouldn’t C: the number one cause of diabetes is obesity. People who take it to “lose weight” are actually taking it to prevent diabetes and other obesity related illnesses. I guarantee you’re not telling your sister she wouldn’t be in this mess if she wasn’t fat to begin with. And better yet if there was a med that could have prevented her from becoming diabetic in the first place, you probably would have supported her taking it Stop judging what you don’t know anything about

If everyone that might find this useful, might that reduce the amount of medical businesses that hospitals and some sorts of medical doctors do? There in, perhaps, lies much of the issues. Many might object or disagree. Perhaps?
@rmcdaniel423
@rmcdaniel423 Год назад
Please stop promoting the ridiculous conspiracy theory that medical doctors want people to be sick and fat because it's good for our business. We want you to live a healthy lifestyle so you don't need drugs in the first place. We don't get paid more to prescribe more drugs. All we get is extra work trying to manage extra complicated metabolic patients who can't manage on their own without a pile of chemicals to try and stave off the complications and side effects of the poor health people have gotten themselves into. There is a reason we call it "preventative health care". Most of the drugs people use, for the diseases people have, could have been prevented with just clean healthy living.

obesity is a symptom of sugar addiction. sugar is a highly addictive drug that is completely legal in the USA and comes in many forms and is in almost every food we eat. soda is the biggest offender but its in all sugary drinks. remove all sugar from the diet and the weight goes down anyway, but most people just cant stop eating it because refined carbs are an addictive drug.

@jared mesner the wife couldn’t take Ozempic because of a family history with a disqualifying condition and she was taking metformin. I’ve lost over 15% of my body weight (~40lbs) since October and she looses a few, gains a few so…. Lifestyle change? Taking Ozempic means I have zero appetite and have to force myself to eat. I’d probably have actually lost more but if I take a hit off the vape pen with 80% THC at night I do get the munchies a little but will satisfy it with a handful of grapes versus candy, cookies, pie, cake in the past. Just got the bloodwork follow up and A1c went from 5.6 to 5.2. Protein was slightly below normal. Doc said to drink more 42g protein shakes because I’m starving my body without even knowing it.

@MsStaceyBrooke if it was really just genetics and not what people ate at all (as the segment says), Wegovy would not help. @SH-sg8or Год назад
@@bearing_aficionado Obviously there is more than just sugar. However, looking at how sugar has permeated every facet of our food consumption and seeing the rates of obesity and type 2 diabetes…… it’s hard not to see the problem. People aren’t getting fat and suffering from type 2 diabetes due to eating healthy, non processed, low glycemic index foods.
@bearing_aficionado
@bearing_aficionado Год назад
@S H that's simply not true. Some people's bodies are becoming more insulin resistant. I know quite a few people who are obese and have no issues with diabetes while I know people who are not obese and have never been having type 2 diabetes.
@SH-sg8or
@SH-sg8or Год назад
@@bearing_aficionado I understand that you know some people that don’t fit the norm or have all of the ailments that are associated with high sugar related foods and don’t eat a lot of sugary foods. But insulin resistance is due to repeated assault on the body by high glycemic foods (sugars, simple starches). Insulin responds mainly to sugar intake. There are many people reversing type 2 diabetes and obesity with low carb or no carb lifestyles. I’m addressing the population and not the minority of people that fall outside of the norm.

I gained 7 lbs my first week on Wegovy. But I’ve increased my water intake to a gallon a day… So maybe it’s water weight. I was also taking Phentermine 37.5 mg & Topiramate 50mg together (Qsymia) before I started Wegovy. I am still able to eat, have bowel movements, and no constipation/nausea. I did have some gas & fatigue on Wegovy. Not much. So I either need more in my system, or it’s time to up the dose. I start week 2 today at 8:30 a.m. Hopefully better results this week. 🙏🏽

it's just about the water it makes you pass don't you think? why can't you just drink water to help lose weight? it also says you have to exercise. it forces your stomach to retain digested food longer than normal, how safe is that? Look at the chemical structure of semaglutide, it's a big man made molecule, people are willing to put that in their arm for weight loss but they won't eat GMO foods? The SUSTAIN-6 trials for semaglutide only showed a 9 lb weight loss for the WHOLE YEAR read..6 things big pharma doesn't want you to know by doctors without borders
