It is indeed a very melancholic song and speaks not just to the ending of The Hobbit but to the end of the Peter Jackson era of Middle-earth. I think for fans of the LOTR films, this song was really a “last goodbye” in that sense. 🥲

* 6+ years ago * As someone who've watched the extended and deleted scenes , played all the games and watched all the clips , and even watched the production of the movies , nothing brings the trilogy (even the hobbit trilogy) together like good music . Just watching a mini documentary on one of the songs from the Hobbit trilogy really drives home how much more Peter Jackson and everyone involved in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films actually cared about Tolkien's work and the fans when compared to the dumpster fire that the Rings of Power was. I think more care and thought was put into this one song than the entirety of the Rings of Power series.
@D00GNUKEM.
@D00GNUKEM. Год назад
Did you read the hobbit. Because it’s pretty clear at least the writers and director of the movie couldn’t care less about respecting Tolkien’s work. Absolute trash trilogy
@kennycarver1774
@kennycarver1774 Год назад
@@D00GNUKEM. Yes, I have read the books multiple times. While there are definitely differences and lots of things left out completely, I understand why they had to leave things out in the movies because otherwise the movies would have needed to be like twice as long, which I would have been fine with, but that's Hollywood I guess. Production companies want to see results and there are timelines and such. Some changes and things left out I don't really understand, but I never got the sense from those movies that the writers and directors didn't try to capture Tolkien's themes and the basic structure of the books. Whereas if you look at the Rings of Power it's almost unrecognizable when compared to the works it is supposed to be based on.
@kennycarver1774
@kennycarver1774 Год назад
@@D00GNUKEM. Also, just to be clear, I was comparing the amount of care that went into the films vs the Amazon series. The films aren’t perfect, but to me, and frankly to the vast majority of Tolkien fans out there, Peter Jackson and the team associated with the movies did an extraordinary job translating the books to film compared to what Amazon did with The Rings of Power.
@D00GNUKEM.
@D00GNUKEM. Год назад
@@kennycarver1774 my bad man, I should have been clearer. My main gripe is with the hobbit films specifically. I absolutely love the Lord of the rings trilogy, it’s a masterpiece. But as for The hobbit. They fabricated a whole bunch of nonsense and added stupid recurring characters like legolas who was not in the original book. so they could milk 3x 3 hour movies out of it and beat as much money out of that dead horse as possible. While also simultaneously cutting out excellent parts of the original story that are Tolkien fan favorites. Tom Bombadil for example. I love the lord of the rings. Books and movies. The Hobbit. Is my favourite book of all time. And the movies disgust me. A simultaneous cash grab and slap in the face to real fans of the book. As for rings of power. I can’t comment because I refuse to watch it. I knew it would be terrible the moment they announced it.
@kennycarver1774
@kennycarver1774 Год назад
@@D00GNUKEM. Yeah, I definitely agree with the whole Legolas nonsense, not to mention Tauriel. I honestly didn't dislike that character, but I didn't understand why they felt it was necessary to add in that character and a love story instead of adding in more of awesome characters like Beorn or Tom Bombadil like you said. I think Tom Bombadil is a difficult one though because so little is known of him in general. Despite it's flaws and my little gripes, when you compare it to Rings of Power it's a masterpiece. I think if you watched Rings of Power you would understand, but I definitely don't blame you for not wanting to watch it. It will just infuriate you.

Gandolph says Bilbo hasn’t aged a day. I know I need glasses but Bilbo looks older and heavier to my old eyes Billy Boyd has the most beautiful voice ethereal and beautiful. The lyrics stick in my head and I want to hear them again. I went and bought the ones I liked so now I can listen to them when I want. I love music and the lyrics say much more about the story if you listen closely.

Yes I agree - the music and the lyrics tell their own parallel story, and are very much Tolkienesque.

wow, this was incredible to watch. Imagine if Amazon had put even 10% of this passion and dedication into Rings of Power..

Personally, Wandering Day from ROP felt very much in keeping with Tolkien, and despite it’s flaws, I thought like the show did have some lovely, poignant moments. ☺️

This is why Amazon Prime cant and never will make anything remotely successful or as powerful as the Peter Jackson movies. The love and dedication shown my everyone involved for Tolkien is amazing.

I noted in the description that it was a documentary by Internet Today. I probably must’ve downloaded and saved it. I don’t really recall now if it was also on the Appendices (it’s been so many years).

Hello, as I mentioned in the description, the credit for this video goes to Internet Today who had originally published this documentary. I don’t know if, or where, it is still available, but this is the complete documentary which I had saved for posterity’s sake. 🙂

Of course not, because RoP is first and foremost a cash grab by scummy Amazon execs and not an artistic project.

The last goodbye and the last of the good adaptations. Everything thereafter is a travesty and should not be associated with Tolkien or any of the previous adaptations.

This is indeed a very poignant song and very much in keeping with Tolkein, and to be honest, I did think ROP had some beautiful Tolkienesque moments too - one example is the song Wandering Day which is (for me) on par with this song and others in LOTR. ☺️ There is always beauty to be found in the unlikeliest of places if only we are willing to see it.

Sadly, New Zealand is much too far away for me to travel to, at least at this point in my life it is. If I could go anywhere and do anything I've ever wanted to do, it would be to travel to New Zealand to see all the filming locations and to just soak all of the beauty into my soul!!!
