Also, for the very Vidyaranya - Akshobhya debate, Madhvas hold contradictory evidences. As to where the debate happened, one Uttaradimutt guruparampara kavya says: it happened in Sringeri and the jayastambha is there. But others say it happened in Mulbagal and the stambha is there. BNK has questioned the authenticity of the stambha. As to what was the topic of debate there is no finality among them. Some say it is Tattvamasi but the present Akshobhya mutt seer says it was atattvamasi. And so on....Madhvas themselves have no unanimity in this.
Sri Vidyaranya was undoubtedly a great scholar and was instrumental in establishing vijayanagara empire. However, we cannot deny that philosophical debates used to take place and in those some used to win others used to lose. Sri vedanta desika was the judge for the debate between Akshobhya teertharu and Sri Vidyaranya. It was mainly about Tatvamasi(this can be taken as Atatvamasi too, you need to know sanskrit first). As far as timeline, place etc is concerned, South India was going through a lot of turmoil at that time. We can only rely on books and whatever is left now. Just because there are two jaya stambas you cant say Sri Vidyaranya was not defeated. It means that there is confusion regarding place of defeat. There are many Shankara Vijayas and in each there is lot of difference, even in names of parents of Sri Shankaracharya. Does that mean Sri Shankaracharya was non existent? Also, Vijayanagara empire did not collapse after Ramaraya. Get your history correct first. Capital was shifted to Pengonda and then almost everything and more was re captured. So your story that Vijayanagara kingdom went down due to Vaishnavism is cooked up. All people who are Vaishnavas now were Shaivas before.

Sri Vidyaranya was defeated in a debate with Jayatheertha. This story is completely a fake story. I feel that it is a baseless statement. Vidyaranya was busy with establishing a Hindu Empire in South India. He had written 1800 vedantic works. I don't think that he would waste his time in useless discussions. Someone intentionally created this false & concocted story. It is well developed by many Madhwaas afterwards.
